I think winning the Nobel Prize for Literature is all you need to say, except that he kicked the door in for the rebellious songs of the 60's and his poetry is taught in many universities.
@@helmutkurtneumnn2026 Not true. He could not make the initial date of the acceptance due to prior commitments but eventually accepted it at a private ceremony. He wrote and delivered an acceptable speech.
There's Bob Dylan, then there's all the rest. He's unique, a one off, irreplaceable, the likes of whom we will never see again. His canon of work is unsurmountable, no one equals his output, content, genre of work, live performances, once you're hooked, there's no going back...
have a listen to 'The Harricane' a true story of Rheuben Carter, a black fighter who got framed and went to jail for a crime he didn't commit. . . . great song and big hit for Dylan
My favorite Bob Dylan song is "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" but you should also check out "Mr Tambourine Man", "Blowin' In The Wind", "The Times They Are A-Changin'", "Tangled Up In Blue" and "Like A Rolling Stone".
Dylan is my favorite artist. You see the comments from others extolling his virtues and achievements and it’s all true. His songs, The Times They Are A-changing, It’s Alright Ma, Like A Rolling Stone, Subterranean Homesick Blues, Tangled Up In Blue and Masters of War are worthy. Really, you can’t go wrong with any Dylan song. Deep rabbit hole. Most importantly, listen to the lyrics.
So much to say about this living legend, but I'll keep it short! Dylan is known as one of the greatest songwriters/poets of all time -- a gifted wordsmith and storyteller, with a political conscience. He started out as an American folk singer of the 60s, then turned more to the rock side, inspiring such bands as the Beatles and bringing folk-rock more into the mainstream. A few of his early well-known songs are: "Blowin' In The Wind", "The Times They Are A-changin'", "Like A Rolling Stone", "Hey Mr. Tambourine Man", and so many more. Thanks for another great reaction, guys! ✌💙✌
One of you said you'd never heard Dylan. Wow. He's the greatest songwriter/poet of all time, and it's not even close. I look forward to your journey as you discover Dylan's entire catalog.
I think Tangled Up in Blue would make a great reaction; the classic Bob Dylan sound and a story that keeps your attention perfectly written about an intricate love story
If you want to see early “ rap” by Bob in the mid-sixties watch the “ Subterranean Homesick Blues” video. Also- get out the lyrics for “ Like A Rolling Stone”. He is our singer songwriter poet laureate who’s been also covered hundreds of times. Another great live video is “ Hurricane” which is about the prize fighter, Ruben “ Hurricane” Carter , who was falsely imprisoned for murder. Bob’s song helped to get him out of jail. He sang at MLK’s March on Washington at age 21- by invitation. ❤❤❤❤ And don’t forget Jimi Hendrix’s biggest record - “ All Along the Watchtower” - written by Bob!
Bob Dylan was raised within less than an hour from me in Minnesota. I attended one of his open air concerts in the harbor city of Duluth right on the shore of big Lake Superior. What a concert underneath the stars on a warm summer's night! Bob's awards are many, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for Literature; several Grammy awards and so much more! *One of Dylan's finest work is his recording of "Hurricane", a true biographical account of a black professional boxer named Reuben Carter, who was falsely accused and tried for murder.
@@aaronhaupert3015 Just sayin Hey! I've grown to love that city. Winter time with all the hills prove scary. My mom was down there over one winter, I was driving a rear wheel drive older car, coming down Mesabi was scary slippin and sliding. Just a street above from my friends nurse had a front wheel car cheap. That $500 car got me all over for a couple yrs or more. I'm a musician so I appreciate music. I didn't mention Paul Simon from Simon and Garfunkel was along with Bob that nite. Take Care bro! THANKS!
Bob Dylan has written over 600 songs ~ I wouldn't even know where to start to suggest what to listen to next. Maybe ~ Lay Lady Lay, Blowin' in the Wind,
Guys!! Im telling you, check out Bob Dylan's It's Alright Ma (Im Only Bleeding) from 1966!! Its rap before the birth of hip hop, bars for dayyyys, youll love the flow and lyricism!🤘
Forever Young, the original was written by Bob Dylan! I love that song. It's a father singing to his little boy about how he wants him to grow up to be a good and righteous young man!
His "Blowin' In the Wind" & "The Times They Are A-Changin'" were very important & beloved during the Civil Rights Movement in the 60's. If you aren't familiar with them you should check them out. Another very popular song is "Subterranean Homesick Blues". It's known for interesting wordplay (you have to see the Official video with Bob holding signs) & it also references the Civil Rights Movement. Bob was very much a social activist. I'd love to see you react to any or, better yet, all of these.🩵☮️
Bob Dylan wrote the music for the soundtrack of the western film Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid, directed by the great film director Sam Pekinpah (who also directed the fantastic western The Wild Bunch). Knocking on Heaven's Door is a song from that soundtrack where one of the men (Slim Pickens) hunting Billy is shot in the stomach, and while not already dead, knows that there is no hope of him surviving the wound.
Sometimes people forget a good portion of GnR's catalog was covers- *"Knockin' On Heaven's Door"* (Bob Dylan), *"Live and Let Die"* (Paul McCartney and Wings), *"Sympathy For The Devil"* (Rolling Stones) from the Interview With The Vampire soundtrack, and *"Since I Don't Have You"* (The Skyliners) from their album The Spaghetti Incident..which was an entire album of covers.
i have been knocking on heaven's door for 4 months please let me in. Cancer is eating me alive i am so very tired. awesome reaction. love from Memphis Tn.
His lyrics tell the story of our lives . . . as a Dylan fan since the early 70s, I grew up on his songs and cheered his courage in calling out the wrongs around us. From maybe the first rap song (It's All Right, Ma) to calling out those who "play with our world like it's their little toy" in Masters of War or the injustice of racism in Hurricane - I could go on and on - I look forward to watching you all discover him. Love the reactions!
I've long said that if Bob Dylan had only written "It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" he would have deserved the Nobel Peace Prize in Literature just for that. There is a live, black & white video of him performing this song (on DailyMotion / Bob Dylan May 1 1965 , it's alright ma i'm only bleeding , Liverpool - England) - also same performance uploaded on YT with lyrics. An absolute must. Maybe the YT one with lyrics because he is speaking fast and the lyrics are incredible.
ha...if you listen to the studio versions of "its alright, ma (im only bleeding)", "tombstone blues", & "subterrainian homesick blues" i guarantee you will never forget it...ive seen so many hip hop reactors react to those songs, which wre basically proto-hip hop pieces of art & just be 110% jaw dropped....its hard to describe, he kind of lit the fire under everyone's asses in the 60's...if it was a great decade, dylan is why, the source.
Pat Garret & Billy the Kid just got a new blu-ray & restoration from the Criterion Collection. They also have Buck & the Preacher, Sidney Poitier’s directorial debut - starring him and Harry Belafonte - and is also a fantastic film
I taught myself to play the guitar, Ive been playing for about 15 months and I get better every day well Ive mastered this song, it is the beginners chords but Im still proud of myself
I prefer this version than to the original in 1973. Like most people in the comments you should listen to Hurricane. He's an amazing songwriter and poet. A true legend
Bob never wrote a bad song. This, though, is really among his more minor hits. Check out The Times They are a Changing, only a Pawn in Their Game, All Along the Watch Tower, Just Like a Woman, Every Grain of Sand, Mr. Tambourine Man, Blowing in the Wind, Hurricane, Desolation Row, Like a Rolling Stone, It’s Alright Ma I’m Only Bleeding and The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll to get a glimpse of why he’s widely considered the greatest songwriter/poet of the past 60 years. His list of masterpieces goes on and on.
I'd forgotten how short this song is. Not typical Dylan but still a great song! I hope you all will check out his contribution of music and lyrics for the protests of the1960's.
There's a bit of context to this song. In the movie it's at the part where the sheriff is shot and is dying. I have this on vinyl from when it first came out.
Another Bob Dylan fact most don’t know … he performed the song “Pawn in their Game” at the March on Washington (same event where MLK gave his famous I Have a Dream speech. Dylan’s audio quality on the RUclips videos I’ve seen isn’t the best. But I urge you 3 to watch that performance (you don’t have to react to it - but it was such a pivotal event in American history it’s 100% worth a watch to really get what Dylan meant to the 60s.)
that movie stars Kris Kristofferson as Billy the Kid and James Coburn as Pat Garret. Even Dylan has a small part. This song plays throughout the movie. Great song and great movie. Dylan was a great voice and song writer for his generation
Other Dylan songs to react to: "Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts", "Shelter From the Storm", "Tangled Up in Blue", "Blowin' in the Wind", "Like a Rolling Stone", "Subterranean Homesick Blues", "Mr. Tambourine Man", "Isis", "Black Diamond Bay", "Buckets of Rain", "Tangled Up in Blue", "Things Have Changed", "She Belongs to Me", "Black Diamond Bay", "Hurricane", "All Along the Watchtower", "Lay Lady Lay", and so many more.
Thanks for doing this one. Been covered a lot, nothing better than the original version. For a different side of Dylan, try "Everything is Broken". Pretty sure you'll like it.
My great grandfather knew Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett, After being aTexas Ranger in the 1870s he retired to New Mexico. When he was 8 yrs old, a rogue group of confederates killed his grandfather, father and teenage brother in Texas because they refused to join the confederate cause. And even after witnessing this horror, he remained a good man for the rest of his long life so I always think of him when I hear this song about a lawman of the west saying goodbye
7:39… “Like A Rolling Stone” is my personal favorite Dylon song; side note The Rolling Stones cover has such a low key trippy video for their cover of the song. “It Ain’t Me, Babe” is about the best breakup song out there.
There are so many Dylan songs that would resonate with you three. 3 I would recommend would be “Ballad of a Thin Man” (the Black Panthers admired the song); “It’s alright Ma (I’m only bleeding)”; or “Maggie’s Farm”.
I can recommend a few deep tracks, if you want to hear some of the lesser known songs that are great. Check out "Blind Willie McTell", "George Jackson", "Series of Dreams", "Up to Me", "Caribbean Wind", "Things have Changed". And then of course you want to hear the hits that made Dylan so popular, "Blowin in the Wind", "Like a Rolling Stone", "The Times they are A Changing", Mr. Tambourine Man", "All Along thr Watchtower ".

Give a listen to In My Time of Dyin’, Man of Constant Sorrow, House of the Risin’ Sun, and/or Freight Train Blues. It’ll give you the proper perspective for examining his later songs.

Dylan wrote "All Along the Watchtower", made famous by Jimi Hendrix.
