I like how Chaos Sonic is characterized as annoying and over the top. I mean, it’s literally in the name “Chaos Sonic.” Even to the point of annoying Sonic himself. Chaos Sonic is essentially giving Sonic a taste of his own medicine.
In the sonic universe, if you’re a character that can manage to piss off sonic by talking too much when his whole personality is about talking too much that immediately makes you god tier.

Chaos Sonic is a concept that's long overdue: A Sonic robot that behaves the way *Eggman perceives* Sonic. Chaos Sonic is annoying because Eggman/the Chaos Council finds Sonic annoying. From the way they talk about him, they pretty much looked at his behavior and went "Nailed it. Best creation yet".
It's like they looked at sonics personality overly exaggerated it to the point of being anoying mixed in a bit of how they see him to make a mockery out of him then put that personality into the body of a metal sonic who's just as fast as sonic and stronger due to his futuristic metal body and when I first heard nine mention they would never beat sonic cuz they don't think like him I was certain that ment we'd finnaly see sonic primes take on metal sonic and I was pleasantly surprised to discover instead of making just another metal or mecha sonic they tried a new approach when designing chaos sonic
And he's the closest recreation (I know of) for sonics power, among the other "false sonics" shadow uses hover shoes and all the robots have other methods like metal hovering with a back thruster and mecha sonic mark 1 probably using some combination of engine and fuel? (My headcannon is he uses the same rocket fuel as metal sonic)
I really liked the idea of a Sonic robot that actually copied his sensibilities. Eggman never really tried to do that, since he was always much more focused on matching Sonic's speed and strength; but I think Chaos Sonic showed that a lot of Sonic's successes are the result of both his unpredictable style and over-the-top attitude.
Yeah, the mainline games have done "evil Sonics" before, but never in the personality department. I'd love another wisecracking kind of villain to match Sonic's energy, rather than going in the dark, brooding, and ruthless direction of the other Sonic copies
I think I can guess why, he did not do that XD. He would get so annoyed with Metal Sonic or any creation if he had to hear them talk constantly. Chaos Sonic I feel will just get under his skin. Last thing he wants after dealing with sonic (not saying sonic talks to much) is to have another robot talk none stop. Especially Chaos Sonic.😆 Would be hilarious to say the least, if Eggman actually does try that route. Would love to see his reaction.🤣
I personally like the idea of Eggman creating Metal Sonic in the image of his perception of Sonic's personality rather than being solely his power and speed. Assuming that the Chaos Council's members are shattered parts of Eggman, it kinda gives insight into how some part of Eggman sees Sonic.
On the flip side you can see Eggmans goal to take away others free will and Metal Sonic as proof that without all the personality sonic could be perfect by being an obedient weapon.
He was programmed to be just like Sonic but without any restraint so the fact that he could be seen as annoying is exactly the point, even Sonic himself can't stand someone talking just as much as him. That definitely doesn't mean he's bad though cause in my opinion, this is exactly what makes him so awesome. He's got so much personality and is such a joy to watch that he instantly became one of my favourite characters in the show. Really hope we see him come back in Season 3, he deserves more than just one episode.

I'mkind of tired of the "Main character but he's BETTER" trope.Personally I just found him annoying, we will see if he comes bck and is worth anything but Ipersonally found the egg troopers eggman made super using the prism to be of more consequence than metal sonic. It also really lessens the energy of metal when eggman literally just MAKESabetter sonic with the press of a button. It renders their entire relationship moot and makes you really see how absolutely exhausted the formula is. Not to mention it really says something about sonics friends when he needed two knuckles AND Rouge on top of himself just to beat one metal sonic. It's probably because I'm a knuckles fan but that REALLY annoyed me. You go out of your way to make knuckleslook AMAZING in the movies and then he's just right back to being the punching bag who can't evenland a hit on a sonic look alike? OUt of everything so far this episode really made me hurt.
@@tsunertoo9149 "Um, actually" it is the "Robot Me" trope, like Mecha Godzilla. Maybe you meant the "Evil Knockoff" trope, but Chaos Sonic is definitely a robotic copy. Not like the show did a "Sonic is jealous of the new guy and becomes suspicious of him" plot *or something.* Also, those fractions of Knuckles would not have known about the Master Emerald, so no reason they would be as powerful as a robot charged with 3/5s of a crystal that shattered reality.
I liked his annoying personality. Made him feel like a 90's Sonic turned up. The fact that he also did it while beating people up gave me a real Psycho Ranger vibe. A little cold on the design though.
He felt almost exactly like the old AOSTH version of Sonic, and I loved every second of it. I honestly hope he comes back; either give him a redemption arc or let Rusty Rose defeat him as part of hers.
I could just imagine Chaos Sonic and Metal Sonic working together and the former just getting on the latter’s nerves who in turn wants to get the job done.
I like to imagine that metal would just kill him at the end once the mission was done or he was no longer needed and as metal flies away he would just be there as a head still trying to talk crap
Personally I am a massive fan of annoying characters, so I genuinely did not mind how irritating he was. He’s adorable, silly, and has his cool moments. Though I agree, seeing him lean into the “cruel” side would be very appreciated, I definitely missed his intimidation factor. Like, the reveal would have hit a little better with me if it had had a moment for Chaos Sonic to stand there in the smoke, standing there ominously to let it set in. Regardless I really want to see him again, the screen face has me hooked.
I do like how Chaos Sonic was characterized in this show. With the whole arc Sonic is meant to go through being about redemption and self-reflection, Chaos Sonic essentially being a more flanderized version of himself perfectly meshes with that, showing Sonic how he is at his worst, to better fit with his character growth. And it matches further with the fact that he was only able to beat him by working with his friends, showing Sonic that he has to rely on them and not believe that he can do everything solo - which also gave me vibes of the Spectre Robot from the Sonic X comic, albeit without as explicit a message regarding teamwork. On the whole thing about Sonic Prime being in the game canon, yeah I'm sorry, but I will never believe that. I thought from day 1 that it was a stupid idea, and this only cements it. It's not just that Sonic never compared Chaos Sonic to Metal Sonic, but the fact that the mere notion of a sonic robot in general was a new concept to him, even though as indicated, he should've already met Metal at least once, and several variations of the Mecha Sonic line.
yup, you can call something canon to please people, but to actually be canon and demonstrate it that has to show up in the writing. There has to be some sense that the writers are aware of what these characters have done and where they've been before. Largely this show feels like it exists in its own universe.

I can't wait to hear you talk about Shadow. This is the best he's been in decades. I really want to see more of Ian Hanlin as Shadow; if he could voice the dark hedgehog in movie 3 I'd die a happy woman. His voice for Shads was immaculate. And his personality was back to snuff too-he isn't vindictive or petty, but he certainly doesn't play psychiatrist. He shows Sonic the consequences of his actions not to be callous and cold but to get him to finally listen and understand the severity of the situation. Shadow took the tech from Sonic not out of being petty but because he lost his faith and trust in Sonic-he truly didn't believe the Blue Blur would have it in him to fix this. He fought Sonic in the finale of s1 and the premiere of s2 not just because but out of sheer rage and pain and anger, all of which was fully justified. But he was willing to put his own emotions aside to work with someone he didn't really have high regards for. This is a character who under Sega Mandates suffered in recent years. And the fact that Shadow was the one to suggest working together shows me that Sega is willing to let the writers breathe when it comes to these characters. And I can't express enough how much I love seeing Shadow be a _character_ again.
@EvelynL.1112 because this is the best he's been since Sonic X. Every time he's not on screen you want him back. Ian Hanlin did a great job with the voice work, and the animators did great giving him personality and expression. He isn't just an edgelord like people think. He's a fully realized character here. It's great to see him return to form.

The thing that makes Chaos Sonic so threatening is the fact that he has *no* compassion, sympathy, or restraint. He’s a complete psychopath and I *love* him. He’s definitely annoying but he’s supposed to be, and it’s awesome!!
One thing that I want to point out is the fact that chaos sonic is a really good fighter. He doesn’t have any special powers or abilities, but he makes up for that in his combative skills. I’m pretty sure that if he was upgraded with the long ranged weapons and given the ability to fly, he’d how much more dangerous threat, especially since the only thing that can take them down are magical rocks. Something that I should also point out is that because chaos sonic was created by the Paradox prism, that technically means that he isn’t under the control of the chaos council since they didn’t code him. Part of me hopes that he becomes good but also because his own character.
And then he'd find metal sonic and they become best bros for life and chaos start dating rusty rose while nine gives metal a voicebox and they'd start inventing all kinds of stuff together
Chaos Sonic’s like Deadpool; cool to some people, annoying to others. That’s just the nature of hyper-manic, eccentric characters. I feel like children and adolescents/adults with ADHD get the most out of characters like these, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If anything, considering the target audience for Sonic is around 6-11 year olds, I’m willing to argue that the characterization of Chaos Sonic fits with the current brand identity Sega’s going for.
As a kid around that age, i definitely would've found chaos sonic annoying as I do now. I like menacing, badass characters with a colder attitude like Shadow or Metal Sonic as opposites to Sonic. And Sonics always been my favorite. Never found him annoying but prime definitely makes him annoying.
The only problem we personally have with Chaos Sonic is the fact that the screen takes up most of the head. It just looks goofy and honestly feels like Sonic could throw a rock at him, and he would be down due to his face shattering.
I always loved how Metal Sonic and the other copies had their own personalities completely distinct from Sonic, however having one that Actually acts like Sonic, is a nice change of pace.
Talking about where this actually fits in canon (as it’s been stated it is), I could honestly see them doing a complete Sonic reset at the end of the series where they paradox prism is combined and we end with a BRAND NEW universe: the Video Game universe. It would explain why sonic doesn’t reference Metal and the plot point of Nine wanting to tinker with the Shards to make a new universe.
Honestly I’m surprised how mad people are. I love stoic and silent metal, but there’s also something so charming about Chaos. And it’s not like he’s not a threat or intimidating. I really like him

Something I liked about Sonic and Chaos Sonic's fight is that Sonic comments that if he is at least half as annoying as Chaos Sonic that he was going to change that. That made me think about how more mature and quiet Sonic was in Frontiers
I really like how Chaos Sonic and Shadow work really well as foils to Sonic in this show, with each going in a different direction: Shadow is stoic and serious to contrast Sonic’s snarky, wisecracking attitude, but both are good guys who want to do the right thing, while Chaos Sonic shares Sonic’s snarky attitude almost exactly but completely lacks any of the compassion and good-hearted-ness Sonic has
I actually really like how annoying he is considering he’s meant to be, he felt like the perfect representation of Sonic Mimic created as an over exaggerated copy created by eggman
I honestly really liked Chaos Sonic despite his annoying personality. It gave me comfort that Sonic was also annoyed because it felt clear that this was the point. He is supposed to be annoying, and while it can genuinely be irritating, it was still a refreshing change of pace after everything else. A part of me would of preferred just having Metal but it is nice to have another Sonic bot to add to the list.
I'm honestly surprised that you didn't mention how the vocal performance was obviously inspired by Jaleel White's take on Sonic from the older cartoons. It really fits Chaos Sonic's character, with how zany and off the walls he can be. I think they killed it with making him annoying, it is both in a meta and literal sense one of the best in universe imitations of Sonic that exists, and for that I love his shiny tuckus
"Snarky hero meets even more snarky rival" is a favorite trope of mine so I REALLY enjoyed Chaos Sonic. There's always something cathartic of characters like Spider-man and Sonic meeting someone that annoys them as much as they annoy there villains.
I can’t wait until Rusty Rose meets Chaos Sonic. He could be their new favorite and their new go-to-guy. Thus replacing Rusty. And if that’s so, then that’d be a good road for her to go down. Although, now it brings up the question, how was Rusty Rose created? Was she really created by the council or was she roboticized? And with Sonic’s interactions happening more and more will his actions result in Rusty possibly learning a feasible painful truth about her past if she stays the course?
Sometimes characters are intended to be annoying and this is fine, especially when they serve the story purpose as being a twisted reflection of the main character and thus serve purpose for, in this case, Sonic to learn from.
I think the main reason that Chaos Sonic was so much of a trouble for Sonic (more so than Metal ever has been) is because of his personality. He's less robotic, more sentient. He's got creativity. He can come up with new techniques on the spot. Also his constant chatter is almost a weapon itself. Annoying Sonic and distracting him. Both of which are things that Metal can't do. Metal is predictable. Metal is silent. Sonic typically knows what skills and moves Metal can perform, mostly because Metal was only built to match Sonic In physical power. Chaos Sonic has the mental power added to have the same creativity that Sonic does. He can come up with new skills to use his speed for. Also Sonic never has to worry about Metal talking back, meaning he can entirely focus on Metal's moves. Chaos can speak, and uses it to his advantage.
Chaos Sonic was brilliant. It's always amazing when the wise cracking hero gets out quipped. This felt like a true counterpart to sonic, and really gave him a test of his own medicine. Great rivals challenge the hero in not only their skills, but their morals and attitude. I really hope we see him again, he was my favorite villain I've seen in a very long time for this series.
This season is, in my opinion, even better than the first season! I really liked Chaos Sonic, he was pretty cheesy but I still enjoyed it! My favorite part of him was when he said “I’m gunna destroy your friends!” All happy! 😂 I feel like it was probably for the best to only have him in one episode though. And I hope you do a review on Sonic prime season two soon! And in my opinion I think that Sonic prime takes place after Sonic heroes because Shadow is in it so it has to be at least after that, also Sonic is a lot more in-miniature especially compared to Sonic frontiers! Great video though can’t wait for your next video!!!
I really loved Chaos Sonic, I pray that we see more of him in the future. I love the fact that he even annoyed sonic. He kinda reminds me of Spider-Man (or sonic himself lol) but just that quirkiness and taunting attitude leveled up to 11. I also love his design! AND HE HAS A VOICE

I think Chaos Sonic is an interesting concept. I remember someone (might've been you, might've been a commenter) that described Mecha Sonic as an "imperfect Sonic". Eggman's attempt at creating a Sonic that could rival him in speed, but has no soul. Hence why he doesn't speak (mostly) or have a mouth. Chaos Sonic, on the other hand, is a mockery of Sonic. In a good way. He represents all of Sonic's flaws, taken to the extreme. His very presence is a reminder of his faults and mistakes, and he can't be stopped unless Sonic relies on the people around him. Which, as it turns out, seems to be the moral of the show if the S2 finale is any indication. Overall, a pretty cool character, and yes I was thinking of Shard from the Archie Comics (before he was Shard) when I saw him too.
This would be the first one based off taking on not only Sonic's speed/power but his personality, and with this being one of the most expressive depictions of Sonic ever it works pretty well.
Making him annoying is a brilliant move. Instead of having Eggman grumble about Sonic all the time, he demonstrates it by making a robot Sonic that's just as annoying to everyone else.
"Chaos Sonic" is really hard to google because it calls up a bunch of images of Chaos instead...However, I LOVE THIS ROBOT BECAUSE his design and high sass levels remind me of the issue 86/87 appearance of Archie Metal Sonic, from before he became Shard. In fact, please, let this guy come back in the next season and face turn into a version of Shard, I would love that more than anything else. I'm pretty certain that he will eventually get an official figure down the line, so I've already started making a custom of pre-Shard metal to celebrate him.

I was so used to metal sonic be so silent adding to how intimidating i found him that hearing chaos sonic be more annoying that sonic just made me laugh at a lot of moments
on the screen-face thing, I wish there was more variation in his expressions/faces. most of his expressions take up a tiny part of his screen, and I'd love to see more crazy things like realistic eyes, big swirls and cryptic messages, and even a mouth sometimes. i think it'd give him an extra level of character.
I really like Chaos Sonic, and his dialogue and attitude remind me of "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" Sonic. I feel like he was able to come in and entertain and leave without overstaying his welcome.

I kinda felt both watching Sonic Prime Season 2 but I understand why. Eggman asks their shards to create an exact robotic clone of Sonic which included his sassy attitude. This was done to show irony against Sonic as Sonic feels annoyance when fighting Metal Sonic in the show
I like how Chaos Sonic was established almost immediately that “hey, this isn’t the same Metal Sonic you know”. His very first line displayed him as different and new character, in more than just physical appearance. And yes, I agree that a Metal Sonic doesn’t seem to already exist in this depiction, further differentiating Prime from other canons. Particularly since Sonic said something along the lines of “A robot me?!” Makes me wondering if, after Sonic fixes their universe, Eggman will remember Chaos Sonic and try to build him again, officially adding a ‘Metal Sonic’ to this canon
Honestly the fact that he was purposely supposed to be a more annoying version of Sonic, to the point where the real Sonic is annoyed somehow makes him not only bearable, but entertaining. Hope he comes back for season 3.
Metal sonic not being mentioned could work with the odd multiple canons thing mentioned roughly when mania and forces were released. The new modern timeline could begin with Sonic meeting and defeating eggman in some unseen story and then adventure 1 & 2 occur, which would explain why characters like the chaotix are excluded from the show, but Big Shadow and Rouge are included. Sonic prime could then occur and with Sonic Heroes coming soon after it, so instead of heroes being Metal's return to the story it could be Metal's introduction into the canon of the modern sonic. And an explanation to metal being in Eggman's Sonic Adventure 1 base is that he was a prototype that escape containment and started the plot of Sonic Heroes.
Maybe it's just me, but I found when voicing Sonic and Chaos Sonic, it seems like Deven Mack was channeling Roger Craig Smith for Sonic and Jaleel White for Chaos Sonic.
I knew some people may hate him but I love Chaos Sonic! His sassy insults are not half bad and his power backs up is confidence. I couldn't care less about the sonic timeline. I think it's fine whether it's a different canon or early in the timeline.
Like every person, I do loved Chaos Sonic. He's annoying and talkative like the blue hedgehog is in this show but more skilled and fighter than Metal, which turns him into a jokey opponent with a warning sign on his tube screen lol
Honestly I loved seeing Chaos Sonic in motion throughout his entire episode. I get his annoying positon does show a weakness in how Prime doesn't really hit it with jokes or smack talk but really it was an absolute treat to see how hard they were willing to go with it. In a weird sense also I kind of got a bit of Neo from RWBY... Knowing that character is like the exact polar opposite in terms of speaking... Among other things. If they do bring him back it is more than likely the chaos council rebuilds him and more fights ensue but the idea you seeded of Chaos Sonic coming back as an analogue for Shard is something I wish you never got my hopes up for but I am very much in agreement I'd love for them to bring back that character even by indirect means. Good gravy I'm trying to think how you combine Shard's palette and design with Chaos Sonic's with the LED.
I absolutely adore Chaos Sonic. He isn't just a robotic double of Sonic, but has a personality based on how the Chaos Council see Sonic is such a fun idea, and the only flaw to it is his lack of screen time. I really hope this new robo gets more love in the future, wether in the show, games, etc. I hate the name, though. Not because it sucks, or anything. But because whenever I try to search him up for the fanart, it leads to either the character Chaos, or the game Sonic Chaos.
I am a big fan of Chaos Sonic. He's not particularly funny, but I feel it's a very unique take on the "Metal Doppelganger" trope Sonic has created and was really fun to watch. Especially with Knux and Dread fighting as well as Sonic and Rouge. Chaos really is the type to say "Wow; 4 on 1...really bad odds for you"
I feel like Choas Sonic is Sonic if he was a mean girl. He's sassy, dramatic and over the top. As soon as he spoke I loved him. I didn't find him genuinely annoying, just annoying enough for the characters and audience to understand that he was supposed to be irritating 😂
Regarding the statement that Prime is canon, I've always had a thought in the back of my mind that it's just canon in the Sonic Multiverse if you will as it was sort of confirmed in an episode of TailsTube.
I *really* like this iteration of Metal Sonic. Yeah the silent killer trope works for him, but Chaos Sonic having all of Sonic's jovialness and sarcasm is just as effective here. He still jokes around, insults and mocks, except now there's a murderous intent behind it that makes it legitimately threatening. Compounded by the fact that the only way to beat him was to literally *unmake him* using the same power that was used to give him life to begin with.
I really enjoyed Chaos Sonic. I agree that I was getting Deadpool vibes, which I can’t say I loved, but I felt like he was portrayed the way that people who don’t know much about Sonic see Sonic. Especially Sonic from the 90’s- early 2000’s. He felt like he teetered the line between a parody and a menace and I’m absolutely here for that. His menacing little “you’re too sloOoOow…” is going to stick with me. That had me ROLLING!
I personally did it see a trailer with Chos Sonic in it (for as far as I can remember), and I remember being really excited when the show was introducing its own robot double, only to be disappointed in the design the moment I lay eyes on it. I got used to it, but I think the problem is 1). His pelvis is way too small compared to the rest of his body, it could stand to be a little bigger. And 2). His head is too thin to take seriously. When conceptualizing improvements, I imagined it something being more the shape of the robots for Murder Drones (which already kind of look like Sonic characters). It probably doesn't have to be as round as those heads, but at least something slightly more balanced. I fell in love with his personality not instantly tho. I love the direction they took this guy in.
A thing I like about this is the way Eggman got the idea for Chaos Sonic was Tails pointing out he doesn't know how to think like Sonic. So Chaos Sonic's personality is how Eggman sees Sonic, which is pretty funny.
Chaos Sonic is beloved to me, because if you perceive him as annoying.. THAT'S HOW EGGMAN SEES SONIC! An annoying idiot that SOMEHOW always beats you, no matter how you go at him!
I love Chaos Sonic, but not because he reminded me of any other sonic robot, but he reminded me of something else… You see, a RUclipsr named The Rollin Nolan made an abridged version of the Sonic OVA, and in that abridged video, Metal Sonic talked, and he was probably my favorite part of that video. So when Chaos Sonic started talking, it immediately made me think of that. I know people may find him annoying, and that may be the point, but I love Chaos Sonic, and enjoyed his time while he was there.
Sonic has looked pathetic in this entire show tbh. Shadow has mollywhopped him in both times they fought, the pirates gave him a lot of trouble, and now Chaos Sonic was mopping him up. I love this show and its characters but the main character himself is my only issue lmao.

I agree on Chaos Sonic seeming to be one paintjob and half a redemption arc away of becoming an alternative version of *Shard* as far as we know *Nine* could just recycle him into it since he learned Egg tech and is in part responsible for Chaos Sonic's creation.

I just realized the following when I compared the creation philosophy of Metal Sonic and Chaos Sonic: Metal Sonic was designed by Dr. Eggman/Robotnik, who have not just considered to create a better Sonic, but an opposite of Sonic: sinister, cold blooded, silent killer. Mr. Dr. Eggman was absolutely clueless what he was trying to do, and the input he got from Nine is make a better Sonic: It is faster, sassier, nothing less but also nothing on top of that. Probably the other members of the Chaos Council would have given the remaining pieces of what would create Metal Sonic: Dr. Done-it: "Make it deadlier" because why not? Dr. Deep: Make it silent to strike fear in their foe. Dr. Babble would probably would suggest shockers because it is pointlessly violent, and Dr. Don't would suggest the jet pack because it is cool? I don't really know what these two would have suggested. So I absolutely believe that Chaos Sonic is on purpose is more "cute" (as you called it) and less sinister, because the input to make it more of a Metal Sonic was absent. But who knows, maybe Chaos Sonic will be more sinister in the 3rd season, as the others will give their feedback on it to Mr. Dr. Eggman?
I really like Chaos Sonic as a new take on the robot doppelganger thing. Rather than be a dark inversion/reflection like classic Metal Sonic, Chaos is a twisted fun house mirror and I love him for it. I hope he makes a comeback of some kind
My personal headcanon is that Chaos Sonic is annoying on purpose because he's how the Chaos Council sees Sonic. They see him as annoying and overly talkative
I loved him. He fulfilled his purpose as an over-the-top rival of the Blue Blur: Overconfident, Relentlessly Quippy, and whimsically ruthless. He plays with his food and fools around, pretty much taking Sonic's flaws and using them against him. I can understand the discourse, however, since people wanted "Metal Sonic" and his style of mechanical rivalry. I personally it was an interesting take though and enjoyed his limited time onscreen.
I for one LOVED chaos sonic and was all aboard the hype train when watching it. I kept off the trailers because I wanted to be surprised with the show and I'm glad I did. so much fun
Honestly, Chaos Sonic's personality was SUPPOSED to be annoying. His narrative design was that he was supposed to show Sonic his backside. One of the key plotpoints of Sonic Prime is Sonic dealing with the consequences of his erratic behavior. So Chaos Sonic is the problematic bits of Sonic dialed up high enough for Sonic to see why it's problematic. Its a ballsy take for the writers to tell a story that says, "Yeah, Sonic is wrong. And he needs to understand that." Especially considering how restrictive Sega has been about allowing the character to develop beyond his iconography. But when they are hitting the notes, they are hitting them right on the head. Look at Shadow. Shadow's whole thing in this series isn't him being edgy, or too cool to help. He wants to save his home and his friends. But the only person who can help him do that, not only has his head up his ass, but doesn't realize the consequences of the actions that brought him there. Things are gonna get pretty rough for Sonic as we move into the next season and the consequences start catching up to him.
This version of Metal Sonic's snarky attitude reminded me of Sonic from The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and SATAM from the 90s. Haven't watched the 90s show in a hot minute, but I'm definitely getting those 90s vibes.
I like how Chaos Sonic is characterized as annoying and over the top. I mean, it’s literally in the name “Chaos Sonic.” Even to the point of annoying Sonic himself. Chaos Sonic is essentially giving Sonic a taste of his own medicine.

From the way they talk about him, they pretty much looked at his behavior and went "Nailed it. Best creation yet".

It's like they looked at sonics personality overly exaggerated it to the point of being anoying mixed in a bit of how they see him to make a mockery out of him then put that personality into the body of a metal sonic who's just as fast as sonic and stronger due to his futuristic metal body and when I first heard nine mention they would never beat sonic cuz they don't think like him I was certain that ment we'd finnaly see sonic primes take on metal sonic and I was pleasantly surprised to discover instead of making just another metal or mecha sonic they tried a new approach when designing chaos sonic
And he's the closest recreation (I know of) for sonics power, among the other "false sonics" shadow uses hover shoes and all the robots have other methods like metal hovering with a back thruster and mecha sonic mark 1 probably using some combination of engine and fuel? (My headcannon is he uses the same rocket fuel as metal sonic)
I really liked the idea of a Sonic robot that actually copied his sensibilities. Eggman never really tried to do that, since he was always much more focused on matching Sonic's speed and strength; but I think Chaos Sonic showed that a lot of Sonic's successes are the result of both his unpredictable style and over-the-top attitude.
Yeah, the mainline games have done "evil Sonics" before, but never in the personality department. I'd love another wisecracking kind of villain to match Sonic's energy, rather than going in the dark, brooding, and ruthless direction of the other Sonic copies

Assuming that the Chaos Council's members are shattered parts of Eggman, it kinda gives insight into how some part of Eggman sees Sonic.

He was programmed to be just like Sonic but without any restraint so the fact that he could be seen as annoying is exactly the point, even Sonic himself can't stand someone talking just as much as him. That definitely doesn't mean he's bad though cause in my opinion, this is exactly what makes him so awesome. He's got so much personality and is such a joy to watch that he instantly became one of my favourite characters in the show. Really hope we see him come back in Season 3, he deserves more than just one episode.

I'mkind of tired of the "Main character but he's BETTER" trope.Personally I just found him annoying, we will see if he comes bck and is worth anything but Ipersonally found the egg troopers eggman made super using the prism to be of more consequence than metal sonic. It also really lessens the energy of metal when eggman literally just MAKESabetter sonic with the press of a button. It renders their entire relationship moot and makes you really see how absolutely exhausted the formula is. Not to mention it really says something about sonics friends when he needed two knuckles AND Rouge on top of himself just to beat one metal sonic. It's probably because I'm a knuckles fan but that REALLY annoyed me. You go out of your way to make knuckleslook AMAZING in the movies and then he's just right back to being the punching bag who can't evenland a hit on a sonic look alike? Personally I am a massive fan of annoying characters, so I genuinely did not mind how irritating he was. He’s adorable, silly, and has his cool moments. Though I agree, seeing him lean into the “cruel” side would be very appreciated, I definitely missed his intimidation factor. Like, the reveal would have hit a little better with me if it had had a moment for Chaos Sonic to stand there in the smoke, standing there ominously to let it set in. Regardless I really want to see him again, the screen face has me hooked.
Technically, it was Nine who is responsible for Chaos Sonic. He bragged about how capable Sonic was and gave Mr. Dr. Eggman the idea.
I do like how Chaos Sonic was characterized in this show. With the whole arc Sonic is meant to go through being about redemption and self-reflection, Chaos Sonic essentially being a more flanderized version of himself perfectly meshes with that, showing Sonic how he is at his worst, to better fit with his character growth. And it matches further with the fact that he was only able to beat him by working with his friends, showing Sonic that he has to rely on them and not believe that he can do everything solo - which also gave me vibes of the Spectre Robot from the Sonic X comic, albeit without as explicit a message regarding teamwork.
On the whole thing about Sonic Prime being in the game canon, yeah I'm sorry, but I will never believe that. I thought from day 1 that it was a stupid idea, and this only cements it. It's not just that Sonic never compared Chaos Sonic to Metal Sonic, but the fact that the mere notion of a sonic robot in general was a new concept to him, even though as indicated, he should've already met Metal at least once, and several variations of the Mecha Sonic line.

yup, you can call something canon to please people, but to actually be canon and demonstrate it that has to show up in the writing. There has to be some sense that the writers are aware of what these characters have done and where they've been before. Largely this show feels like it exists in its own universe.

I can't wait to hear you talk about Shadow. This is the best he's been in decades. I really want to see more of Ian Hanlin as Shadow; if he could voice the dark hedgehog in movie 3 I'd die a happy woman. His voice for Shads was immaculate. And his personality was back to snuff too-he isn't vindictive or petty, but he certainly doesn't play psychiatrist. He shows Sonic the consequences of his actions not to be callous and cold but to get him to finally listen and understand the severity of the situation. Shadow took the tech from Sonic not out of being petty but because he lost his faith and trust in Sonic-he truly didn't believe the Blue Blur would have it in him to fix this.
He fought Sonic in the finale of s1 and the premiere of s2 not just because but out of sheer rage and pain and anger, all of which was fully justified. But he was willing to put his own emotions aside to work with someone he didn't really have high regards for. This is a character who under Sega Mandates suffered in recent years. And the fact that Shadow was the one to suggest working together shows me that Sega is willing to let the writers breathe when it comes to these characters. And I can't express enough how much I love seeing Shadow be a _character_ again.
Shadow is the best part of this show.

Ian Hanlin did a great job with the voice work, and the animators did great giving him personality and expression. He isn't just an edgelord like people think. He's a fully realized character here. The thing that makes Chaos Sonic so threatening is the fact that he has *no* compassion, sympathy, or restraint. He’s a complete psychopath and I *love* him.

One thing that I want to point out is the fact that chaos sonic is a really good fighter. He doesn’t have any special powers or abilities, but he makes up for that in his combative skills. I’m pretty sure that if he was upgraded with the long ranged weapons and given the ability to fly, he’d how much more dangerous threat, especially since the only thing that can take them down are magical rocks.
Something that I should also point out is that because chaos sonic was created by the Paradox prism, that technically means that he isn’t under the control of the chaos council since they didn’t code him. Part of me hopes that he becomes good but also because his own character.
And then he'd find metal sonic and they become best bros for life and chaos start dating rusty rose while nine gives metal a voicebox and they'd start inventing all kinds of stuff together

Chaos Sonic’s like Deadpool; cool to some people, annoying to others. That’s just the nature of hyper-manic, eccentric characters.
I feel like children and adolescents/adults with ADHD get the most out of characters like these, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
If anything, considering the target audience for Sonic is around 6-11 year olds, I’m willing to argue that the characterization of Chaos Sonic fits with the current brand identity Sega’s going for.
As a person with adhd I can guarantee you that I got SO much from Chaos Sonic, and I consider it to be a great thing.

As a kid around that age, i definitely would've found chaos sonic annoying as I do now. I like menacing, badass characters with a colder attitude like Shadow or Metal Sonic as opposites to Sonic. And Sonics always been my favorite. Never found him annoying but prime definitely makes him annoying.

The only problem we personally have with Chaos Sonic is the fact that the screen takes up most of the head. It just looks goofy and honestly feels like Sonic could throw a rock at him, and he would be down due to his face shattering.
I always loved how Metal Sonic and the other copies had their own personalities completely distinct from Sonic, however having one that Actually acts like Sonic, is a nice change of pace.
Talking about where this actually fits in canon (as it’s been stated it is), I could honestly see them doing a complete Sonic reset at the end of the series where they paradox prism is combined and we end with a BRAND NEW universe: the Video Game universe. It would explain why sonic doesn’t reference Metal and the plot point of Nine wanting to tinker with the Shards to make a new universe.

Something I liked about Sonic and Chaos Sonic's fight is that Sonic comments that if he is at least half as annoying as Chaos Sonic that he was going to change that. That made me think about how more mature and quiet Sonic was in Frontiers

I really like how Chaos Sonic and Shadow work really well as foils to Sonic in this show, with each going in a different direction: Shadow is stoic and serious to contrast Sonic’s snarky, wisecracking attitude, but both are good guys who want to do the right thing, while Chaos Sonic shares Sonic’s snarky attitude almost exactly but completely lacks any of the compassion and good-hearted-ness Sonic has
I actually really like how annoying he is considering he’s meant to be, he felt like the perfect representation of Sonic Mimic created as an over exaggerated copy created by eggman
I honestly really liked Chaos Sonic despite his annoying personality. It gave me comfort that Sonic was also annoyed because it felt clear that this was the point. He is supposed to be annoying, and while it can genuinely be irritating, it was still a refreshing change of pace after everything else. A part of me would of preferred just having Metal but it is nice to have another Sonic bot to add to the list.
I'm honestly surprised that you didn't mention how the vocal performance was obviously inspired by Jaleel White's take on Sonic from the older cartoons. It really fits Chaos Sonic's character, with how zany and off the walls he can be. I think they killed it with making him annoying, it is both in a meta and literal sense one of the best in universe imitations of Sonic that exists, and for that I love his shiny tuckus
"Snarky hero meets even more snarky rival" is a favorite trope of mine so I REALLY enjoyed Chaos Sonic. There's always something cathartic of characters like Spider-man and Sonic meeting someone that annoys them as much as they annoy there villains.
I can’t wait until Rusty Rose meets Chaos Sonic. He could be their new favorite and their new go-to-guy. Thus replacing Rusty. And if that’s so, then that’d be a good road for her to go down. Although, now it brings up the question, how was Rusty Rose created? Was she really created by the council or was she roboticized? And with Sonic’s interactions happening more and more will his actions result in Rusty possibly learning a feasible painful truth about her past if she stays the course?
Sometimes characters are intended to be annoying and this is fine, especially when they serve the story purpose as being a twisted reflection of the main character and thus serve purpose for, in this case, Sonic to learn from.
I think the main reason that Chaos Sonic was so much of a trouble for Sonic (more so than Metal ever has been) is because of his personality. He's less robotic, more sentient. He's got creativity. He can come up with new techniques on the spot. Also his constant chatter is almost a weapon itself. Annoying Sonic and distracting him. Both of which are things that Metal can't do. Metal is predictable. Metal is silent. Sonic typically knows what skills and moves Metal can perform, mostly because Metal was only built to match Sonic In physical power. Chaos Sonic has the mental power added to have the same creativity that Sonic does. He can come up with new skills to use his speed for. Also Sonic never has to worry about Metal talking back, meaning he can entirely focus on Metal's moves. Chaos can speak, and uses it to his advantage.
What im hoping for is that after he is destroyed, the chaos council goes back and makes what we know to be metal sonic as an “upgraded” design
Chaos Sonic was brilliant. It's always amazing when the wise cracking hero gets out quipped. This felt like a true counterpart to sonic, and really gave him a test of his own medicine. Great rivals challenge the hero in not only their skills, but their morals and attitude. I really hope we see him again, he was my favorite villain I've seen in a very long time for this series.
This season is, in my opinion, even better than the first season!
I really liked Chaos Sonic, he was pretty cheesy but I still enjoyed it! My favorite part of him was when he said “I’m gunna destroy your friends!” All happy! 😂
I feel like it was probably for the best to only have him in one episode though.
And I hope you do a review on Sonic prime season two soon! And in my opinion I think that Sonic prime takes place after Sonic heroes because Shadow is in it so it has to be at least after that, also Sonic is a lot more in-miniature especially compared to Sonic frontiers!

I really loved Chaos Sonic, I pray that we see more of him in the future. I love the fact that he even annoyed sonic. He kinda reminds me of Spider-Man (or sonic himself lol) but just that quirkiness and taunting attitude leveled up to 11. I also love his design!

Chaos Sonic reminds me of Shard just before his redemption too, but cranked up to an 11! I love him! I was actually kind of hoping he would become a character similar to Shard. Even if he never comes back, I'm happy there was some similarities to by favorite Sonic robot.

I think Chaos Sonic is an interesting concept. I remember someone (might've been you, might've been a commenter) that described Mecha Sonic as an "imperfect Sonic". Eggman's attempt at creating a Sonic that could rival him in speed, but has no soul. Hence why he doesn't speak (mostly) or have a mouth. Chaos Sonic, on the other hand, is a mockery of Sonic. In a good way. He represents all of Sonic's flaws, taken to the extreme. His very presence is a reminder of his faults and mistakes, and he can't be stopped unless Sonic relies on the people around him. Which, as it turns out, seems to be the moral of the show if the S2 finale is any indication.
Overall, a pretty cool character, and yes I was thinking of Shard from the Archie Comics (before he was Shard) when I saw him too.
This would be the first one based off taking on not only Sonic's speed/power but his personality, and with this being one of the most expressive depictions of Sonic ever it works pretty well.
Making him annoying is a brilliant move. Instead of having Eggman grumble about Sonic all the time, he demonstrates it by making a robot Sonic that's just as annoying to everyone else.
"Chaos Sonic" is really hard to google because it calls up a bunch of images of Chaos instead...However, I LOVE THIS ROBOT BECAUSE his design and high sass levels remind me of the issue 86/87 appearance of Archie Metal Sonic, from before he became Shard. In fact, please, let this guy come back in the next season and face turn into a version of Shard, I would love that more than anything else. I'm pretty certain that he will eventually get an official figure down the line, so I've already started making a custom of pre-Shard metal to celebrate him.

on the screen-face thing, I wish there was more variation in his expressions/faces. most of his expressions take up a tiny part of his screen, and I'd love to see more crazy things like realistic eyes, big swirls and cryptic messages, and even a mouth sometimes. i think it'd give him an extra level of character.
Nah once I saw the way he was absolutely styling on all of his opponents I knew he was my favourite character in prime
I really like Chaos Sonic, and his dialogue and attitude remind me of "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" Sonic. I feel like he was able to come in and entertain and leave without overstaying his welcome.

I kinda felt both watching Sonic Prime Season 2 but I understand why. Eggman asks their shards to create an exact robotic clone of Sonic which included his sassy attitude. This was done to show irony against Sonic as Sonic feels annoyance when fighting Metal Sonic in the show
I came back to finish Prime because of him and I'm glad, the show is looking so much better. I really hope they repair him he was so silly !!
I like how Chaos Sonic was established almost immediately that “hey, this isn’t the same Metal Sonic you know”. His very first line displayed him as different and new character, in more than just physical appearance.
And yes, I agree that a Metal Sonic doesn’t seem to already exist in this depiction, further differentiating Prime from other canons. Particularly since Sonic said something along the lines of “A robot me?!” Makes me wondering if, after Sonic fixes their universe, Eggman will remember Chaos Sonic and try to build him again, officially adding a ‘Metal Sonic’ to this canon
Honestly the fact that he was purposely supposed to be a more annoying version of Sonic, to the point where the real Sonic is annoyed somehow makes him not only bearable, but entertaining. Hope he comes back for season 3.
Metal sonic not being mentioned could work with the odd multiple canons thing mentioned roughly when mania and forces were released. The new modern timeline could begin with Sonic meeting and defeating eggman in some unseen story and then adventure 1 & 2 occur, which would explain why characters like the chaotix are excluded from the show, but Big Shadow and Rouge are included. Sonic prime could then occur and with Sonic Heroes coming soon after it, so instead of heroes being Metal's return to the story it could be Metal's introduction into the canon of the modern sonic. And an explanation to metal being in Eggman's Sonic Adventure 1 base is that he was a prototype that escape containment and started the plot of Sonic Heroes.
Maybe it's just me, but I found when voicing Sonic and Chaos Sonic, it seems like Deven Mack was channeling Roger Craig Smith for Sonic and Jaleel White for Chaos Sonic.
Truly, Deven Mack is the Sonic of many vibes! I catch a few Drummond and Griffith vibes every once in a while on top of Smith.
I knew some people may hate him but I love Chaos Sonic! His sassy insults are not half bad and his power backs up is confidence. I couldn't care less about the sonic timeline. I think it's fine whether it's a different canon or early in the timeline.
Like every person, I do loved Chaos Sonic. He's annoying and talkative like the blue hedgehog is in this show but more skilled and fighter than Metal, which turns him into a jokey opponent with a warning sign on his tube screen lol
Honestly I loved seeing Chaos Sonic in motion throughout his entire episode. I get his annoying positon does show a weakness in how Prime doesn't really hit it with jokes or smack talk but really it was an absolute treat to see how hard they were willing to go with it. In a weird sense also I kind of got a bit of Neo from RWBY... Knowing that character is like the exact polar opposite in terms of speaking... Among other things.
If they do bring him back it is more than likely the chaos council rebuilds him and more fights ensue but the idea you seeded of Chaos Sonic coming back as an analogue for Shard is something I wish you never got my hopes up for but I am very much in agreement I'd love for them to bring back that character even by indirect means. Good gravy I'm trying to think how you combine Shard's palette and design with Chaos Sonic's with the LED.
I like how he was able to speak and showed a personality that acts as a foil to Sonic though he was annoying. 😅

I absolutely adore Chaos Sonic. He isn't just a robotic double of Sonic, but has a personality based on how the Chaos Council see Sonic is such a fun idea, and the only flaw to it is his lack of screen time. I really hope this new robo gets more love in the future, wether in the show, games, etc.
I hate the name, though. Not because it sucks, or anything. But because whenever I try to search him up for the fanart, it leads to either the character Chaos, or the game Sonic Chaos.

I am a big fan of Chaos Sonic. He's not particularly funny, but I feel it's a very unique take on the "Metal Doppelganger" trope Sonic has created and was really fun to watch. Especially with Knux and Dread fighting as well as Sonic and Rouge. Chaos really is the type to say "Wow; 4 on 1...really bad odds for you"

Chaos Sonic felt like Metal Sonic crossed with how the public percieves Deadpool.
I feel like Choas Sonic is Sonic if he was a mean girl. He's sassy, dramatic and over the top. As soon as he spoke I loved him. I didn't find him genuinely annoying, just annoying enough for the characters and audience to understand that he was supposed to be irritating 😂
Regarding the statement that Prime is canon, I've always had a thought in the back of my mind that it's just canon in the Sonic Multiverse if you will as it was sort of confirmed in an episode of TailsTube.
i do hope he comes back in some form after the show. it'd be great seeing interact more with the eggsib bot and eggman himself.

I *really* like this iteration of Metal Sonic. Yeah the silent killer trope works for him, but Chaos Sonic having all of Sonic's jovialness and sarcasm is just as effective here.
He still jokes around, insults and mocks, except now there's a murderous intent behind it that makes it legitimately threatening.
Compounded by the fact that the only way to beat him was to literally *unmake him* using the same power that was used to give him life to begin with.
I really enjoyed Chaos Sonic. I agree that I was getting Deadpool vibes, which I can’t say I loved, but I felt like he was portrayed the way that people who don’t know much about Sonic see Sonic. Especially Sonic from the 90’s- early 2000’s.
He felt like he teetered the line between a parody and a menace and I’m absolutely here for that. His menacing little “you’re too sloOoOow…” is going to stick with me. That had me ROLLING!

I personally did it see a trailer with Chos Sonic in it (for as far as I can remember), and I remember being really excited when the show was introducing its own robot double, only to be disappointed in the design the moment I lay eyes on it. I got used to it, but I think the problem is 1). His pelvis is way too small compared to the rest of his body, it could stand to be a little bigger. And 2). His head is too thin to take seriously. When conceptualizing improvements, I imagined it something being more the shape of the robots for Murder Drones (which already kind of look like Sonic characters). It probably doesn't have to be as round as those heads, but at least something slightly more balanced.
I fell in love with his personality not instantly tho. I love the direction they took this guy in.

A thing I like about this is the way Eggman got the idea for Chaos Sonic was Tails pointing out he doesn't know how to think like Sonic. So Chaos Sonic's personality is how Eggman sees Sonic, which is pretty funny.
I think he's a good character but he's very annoying and I actually started cheering when he was beat.

I love Chaos Sonic, but not because he reminded me of any other sonic robot, but he reminded me of something else…
You see, a RUclipsr named The Rollin Nolan made an abridged version of the Sonic OVA, and in that abridged video, Metal Sonic talked, and he was probably my favorite part of that video. So when Chaos Sonic started talking, it immediately made me think of that.
I know people may find him annoying, and that may be the point, but I love Chaos Sonic, and enjoyed his time while he was there.

Sonic has looked pathetic in this entire show tbh. Shadow has mollywhopped him in both times they fought, the pirates gave him a lot of trouble, and now Chaos Sonic was mopping him up. I love this show and its characters but the main character himself is my only issue lmao.

I just realized the following when I compared the creation philosophy of Metal Sonic and Chaos Sonic:
Metal Sonic was designed by Dr. Eggman/Robotnik, who have not just considered to create a better Sonic, but an opposite of Sonic: sinister, cold blooded, silent killer.
Mr. Dr. Eggman was absolutely clueless what he was trying to do, and the input he got from Nine is make a better Sonic: It is faster, sassier, nothing less but also nothing on top of that. Probably the other members of the Chaos Council would have given the remaining pieces of what would create Metal Sonic:
Dr. Done-it: "Make it deadlier" because why not?
Dr. Deep: Make it silent to strike fear in their foe.
Dr. Babble would probably would suggest shockers because it is pointlessly violent, and Dr. Don't would suggest the jet pack because it is cool? I don't really know what these two would have suggested.
So I absolutely believe that Chaos Sonic is on purpose is more "cute" (as you called it) and less sinister, because the input to make it more of a Metal Sonic was absent. But who knows, maybe Chaos Sonic will be more sinister in the 3rd season, as the others will give their feedback on it to Mr. Dr. Eggman?
I really like Chaos Sonic as a new take on the robot doppelganger thing. Rather than be a dark inversion/reflection like classic Metal Sonic, Chaos is a twisted fun house mirror and I love him for it. I hope he makes a comeback of some kind

I misheard his name as "kickass sonic" at first and I think that fits his personality more. Like of course he'd call himself that
I loved him. He fulfilled his purpose as an over-the-top rival of the Blue Blur: Overconfident, Relentlessly Quippy, and whimsically ruthless. He plays with his food and fools around, pretty much taking Sonic's flaws and using them against him. I can understand the discourse, however, since people wanted "Metal Sonic" and his style of mechanical rivalry. I personally it was an interesting take though and enjoyed his limited time onscreen.

I for one LOVED chaos sonic and was all aboard the hype train when watching it. I kept off the trailers because I wanted to be surprised with the show and I'm glad I did. so much fun
Honestly, Chaos Sonic's personality was SUPPOSED to be annoying. His narrative design was that he was supposed to show Sonic his backside. One of the key plotpoints of Sonic Prime is Sonic dealing with the consequences of his erratic behavior. So Chaos Sonic is the problematic bits of Sonic dialed up high enough for Sonic to see why it's problematic. Its a ballsy take for the writers to tell a story that says, "Yeah, Sonic is wrong. And he needs to understand that." Especially considering how restrictive Sega has been about allowing the character to develop beyond his iconography. But when they are hitting the notes, they are hitting them right on the head. Look at Shadow. Shadow's whole thing in this series isn't him being edgy, or too cool to help. He wants to save his home and his friends. But the only person who can help him do that, not only has his head up his ass, but doesn't realize the consequences of the actions that brought him there. Things are gonna get pretty rough for Sonic as we move into the next season and the consequences start catching up to him.
I predict that despite the initial reception, Chaos Sonic is going to become a breakout fan favorite. Just like the Sonic Boom cartoon in general.
This version of Metal Sonic's snarky attitude reminded me of Sonic from The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and SATAM from the 90s. Haven't watched the 90s show in a hot minute, but I'm definitely getting those 90s vibes.
