    at 27:25 - To all watching this - I know @Digital DJ Tips always stigmatises the Hercules brand as 'entry level' but there is nothing 'Entry Level' about their T7 controller. You will not be upgrading that controller if you purchase it like an entry level pioneer. ive been DJing professionally for over 20 years, and I now use the T7 at every gig I have including night clubs and have done so for the last 9 months. It's incredible what you get for your money, and yes with Serato Pro (sometimes people have licences already you know). (I just wish someone could map it for Traktor as its the best DJ software for sound quality, FX and library organisation. but its simply incredible. All the best -Paul

      Thanks Paul! T7 nearly made our list, but had strong competition. And no we don't "always stigmatise" any brand - why on earth would we? Our philosophy is buy cheap while you're figuring things out, then buy expensive. Hercules is a good cheap brand.

    I thought the Roland would be too cramped, but it actually fits my workflow so much better than anything else I've used. I have my Rane One, which you'd think would be more ideal, but I actually find myself more comfortable working on the Roland.
    If it had slightly larger jogs, motorized platters, and more pitch fader throw (it's quite short) it would be unbeatable by anything else. Just the most incredible bit of kit. No surprise it still sits on top lists many years after release. You didn't even go into all the IO options, which truly makes it stand out above all others.

    Help Phil - very confused!!
    Been DJing on the Pioneer SB3 for a couple of years (bedroom + parties) but looking to upgrade on a Serato friendly controller (I am old and will never play in clubs anymore). Initially thinking a Rane but do I really need 4 channels? Rane One way cheaper than Rane Four for our very poor Aussie dollars.
    And not really bothered about motorised platters either. So maybe the Roland DJ707M - but I already have a Reloop Ready + minirigs for a portable setup.
    Can you see why I am confused?? 😂

      @@AngryValI went from a SB3 (which I love without reservation--it's a great entry-level controller) to a Rane Four. I understand the cost issue completely--I looked seriously at the Rane One, but I don't need motorized jogs. The Four is the bee's nuts, though.
      I only use the third channel for a turntable during certain streams, so night-to-night in the bars, I don't need four channels, but they're handy. The on-board effects are great on the Four, as are the controls (paddles). Stems are a little easier to use on the Four than the SB3, depending on how you use them. I got so used to using a pad on the SB3 for them, that I don't bother using the dedicated buttons.

I would jump from my SRT to the FLX10 if the Serato integration wasn’t so clunky… I know you were more professional with your wording, but you basically are agreeing……. And I also agree with you that the new fun thing is STEMS, and PDJ missed the mark with it…. Especially at that price point.

      @@digitaldjtips Ok, this leads to my next question. I'm familiar with Native Instruments but have never used Traktor; what is the key differences (strengths and weaknesses, if possible) of the three you mentioned (Serrato, RekordBox and Virtual DJ)?

    • @DJNeerav
      @DJNeerav 9 месяцев назад +3

      @maurikuvalentinus1657: Pretty sure Phil will agree here, but I would say:
      1. Serrato was traditionally more for scratch/open format DJs; its strengths are: Stems and other 'add on' features it offers, allowing you to dial in exactly what you need; it also has a kind of DJ Daw, "Serato Studio". For its weaknesses: the add ons cost extra (so price vs value), the layout is particular, you either love it or hate it. I personally can't do vertical waveforms as I've been on Pioneer and Traktor my whole career. I do understand their appeal though.
      2. Rekordbox is traditionally known for being more for Club style DJs due to its association with Pioneer, but it's also good for open format DJs. Strengths: that's easy; library management, and its universality and portability between your gear and the club vs a USB stick or the cloud. Weaknesses: the interface is not as clean or easy on the eyes as Traktor, exporting to a USB key stick can be slow at times for unknown reasons, Stems! (or Parts as they call it), and I have found that some of the behaviour with the software (RB 6.8.4) with the new FLX10 controller is surprising or unexpected. RB also has some strange programming in the GUI for how you interact with it on the computer (compared to Traktor). For instance, the Play buttons on the controllers are symmetric, but on the software are mirrored relative to the mixer section for some reason; yet when you go in to edit the Grid on the separate tab, the 'play' button on the left deck changes position relative how it appears on the regular Cue tab...that's just weird in my opinion.
      3. I don't know VDJ at all, but have heard nothing but good things about it. Based on feedback from friends and what I've read, it seems to have originally been more for Mobile DJs, but is now much more universal. Strengths: incredibly fast updates and almost universal compatibility with hardware/ controllers. Weaknesses: you can skin it as you like, so maybe too much customizability for some?
      4. In my humble opinion, DJay Pro is a very worthy software that will only improve as it goes along. A lot of DJs are using it as a 'backup', but it may soon become the new 'standard' if its development keeps pace with its current momentum. There are a few teething issues such as library management, and how tracks sync up the second after you hit Play (amongst others), but these should hopefully get ironed out over time. Then again, maybe not. It's a software that's capable of very creative possibilities, but that complexity may come at a price? For now, how it manages Stems, the Looper and Sampler, the crossfade mixes with FX, how good it sounds, how customizable the interface is, the availability of iOS versions, etc. etc. make this a very forward thinking solution. They're just missing hardware integration that matches the softwares capabilities at the moment. Reloop's Mixon 8 is, as stated, the best solution for now.
      I don’t consider the fact that it is subscription only as a weakness (for now) because it’s so affordable.
      Hopefully others chime in here...hope this helps.

    • @DJNeerav
      @DJNeerav 9 месяцев назад

      Honestly, it’s a tough question to answer. Things are moving so fast that I agree with what Phil says: choose your preferred software first.
      If it’s VDJ, you can pick just about any controller.
      If it’s Traktor, you should wait until Autumn 2024 to see what they come out with.
      If it’s Pioneer, go for the Flx10 (even though it’s a bit too over the top and crammed with features as some have mentioned).
      If it’s Serato, the Rane 4.
      And for Algoriddim Djay Pro, the Mixon 8. I would buy this one myself if it weren’t for a few things: no USB-C connectivity to the computer (to iPad, yes); tempo faders on the top; mirrored layout (to fit directly with the software); the onscreen monochrome displays are weak compared to the Flx10 (but good enough to get basic info); and I’m not fond of the look. I feel like someone will release a more advanced controller for Djay Pro eventually, and if they do, I’m all in. @@maurikuvalentinus1657

Some of the controllers are huge and i cant use them as they sinply will not fit in the available space a list with best in different size sections would be very helpful for a lot of people i think, apprective of the great content you put out on RUclips
