I'm from a semi-rural part of Oregon (in NC now) and my mind went to "this dude's a weirdo asking weird questions" too. That, and I don't take kindly to people interrupting me when I'm mowing my lawn.

We've actually been having a problem with those types of salespeople in our neighborhood the past couple of weeks scoping out houses etc for break ins and all sorts of other unfortunately not hypothetical crime related activities.

Or they hunt... my neighbors like to hunt so they get up early in the morning (like 2 am) and they come and go all hours of the night with their big loud pick up truck. I don’t mind because it doesn’t wake me up since I’m a heavy sleeper but it drives my parents nuts.

When you mentioned how the soliciter hopped In the van, it reminded me of a movie with Shia Labeouf in it; basically a bunch of misfits/run-aways from, God knows where, get dropped off from a van in different neighborhoods, to solicit in the neighborhood. One scene, one of the solicitors went off on this lady. It was weird. Anyway, can't think of the name of it; but that bit of your hypothetical story reminded me of a different hypothetical...well, story. Lol.
