  • A new exercise for the superior head of the lateral pterygoid. This muscle can be difficult to target, but hopefully this exercise will sort that problem out.
its fiber orientation is similar (anterosuperior) to that of the medial pterygoid, however the medial pterygoid closes the mouth where as the first-mentioned does not. Because certain branches of the trigeminal nerve as well as the maxillary artery passes through the two heads of the lateral pterygoid, it is important to exercise both efficiently in order to achieve therapeutic progress.

Well done. My last 2 chronic TMJ patients have done well combining this exercise with joint mobilizations.

Very interesting. I have very mild tinnitus in my right ear and doing this I could hear some kind of cracking noise going on in my right ear.

Can you please elaborate on what other facial exercises would benefit tinnitus sufferers. Recently I have been doing some jaw stretches and exercises and this is the first time I have seen any real reduction in my tinnitus. I am hoping that similar exercises might one day completely eliminate this horrible condition.

Can you elaborate what particular jaw stretches and exercises you’ve been doing?

You mentioned tinnitus which got my attention because I've had tinnitus for a few years now, and when I try to move my jaw forward like that the ringing gets very loud (and also I can't really do it lol). Any advice would be much appreciated!

I have tinitus that is wholly caused by TMJ. I have no hearing loss. I took 2 hearing tests that were really extensive. So this interests me.

You just got yourself a new sub. I came across your channel after suffering with tinnitus for the best part of 15 years . I always thought my tinnitus was due to hearing loss, but I read that if you can manipulate the sound or loudness of your tinnitus through jaw movement, then it is most likely caused by TMJ and it is, therefore, treatable. I always suspected I've had TMJ due to a clicking jaw for about the same time I've had my tinnitus.
I've just tried this exercise and I noticed than when I protract my jaw obliquely, as you demonstrate, my tinnitus gets a lot more prominent, particularly in my right ear. Am I doing the exercise correctly or is this normal? Does it also mean that the imbalance/problem with my jaw is on the right side?
Thank you again for your content. I've been getting desperate lately.

I have the same experience with the tinnitus spiking loudly when I slide my lower jaw forward or upward. How are you doing now?

@@gerrytheleper6604 Tinnitus is the same (perhaps marginally improved probably due to time) but I have bigger health problems than tinnitus

How many forward repetition movements and how many times per day? Do you have any patient testimonies yet that you can add either here or on RUclips?

Hi. Thank you for such an important tip. I have been suffering of sounds in my left ear with my jaw movement and eustachian tube dysfunction with pressure since 5 months. Tried everything dry needling, physio, ENT doctors. Any other helpful tips for such a problem? I am a teacher who speaks with a mask on all the time, could this be the problem? Thank you

Are you just moving your jaw straight forward or right and left? I can't understand all the jargon

    Aesthetic! Thanks!
    When will you prescribe this?
Through NKT finding weakness-Inhibited? Or just Palpation/Movement Assess?
    Thanks so much!
