Hi Geoff - good update. Must check out the N-scenics cable trunking. For the ballasting I have a slightly different method - I ballast the centre of the track and the flood the side with the PVA then capillary action draws the PVA in. That way you don't get any glue on the rails - especially good at the points. Downside is it takes longer to ballast but as I find ballasting rather therapeutic I don't mind. Anyway enjoyed the update and well done in converting the 08 to DCC. cheers Euan
Fantastic update, Geoff. Congrats to winners in the contest. Nice work on the models, and the lights are brill. Loved seeing the trains. Hope you're well.
Hi Geoff, nice update, I like that N Scenic cable trunking, probably get some of that myself. Gutted about not winning that truck, lol! Shame about lock down again, I was getting hopeful that our N gauge Scociety group might get to meet, cheers for now John
Hi John , sorry about the draw , I never win myself . yes shame about lockdown again and our Basildon Club is also shut now . hope to catch up in the new year all being well
C'mon Geoff be honest, the wine is just for washing the pot noodles down LOL. Loved the video and a very compact show of how to ballast which was great to watch, loved the end result. Enjoying your series, wondering what you will do when you need to extend the layout. Regards Chris
hi Chris , the red wine helps breakdown the surface tension lol . This layout is a test layout so i can make all the mistakes before building the much bigger layout I have planned - not sure if it will be in the room I'm using or in a Log cabin , Geoff
Once again an other good update wish I had the skills to do the chipping of class 08's congratulations to the winners of your competition Stay safe Regards Sue and Mike
hi Sue & Mike , I was not looking to converting the class08 however that ESU decoder is very small and fitted easily into the cab . Im now considering if i can use that decoder in some other loco's where room is tight . regards Geoff
great prizes well done to the winners, I have to say ballasting is not my favourite task at all, but it's a necessary one, here's to the next 200 subs Geoff, take care my friend
@@flinthillsmodelrailway My pleasure my friend I look forward to us all being able to have a get together at a show as soon as we get this wretched virus under control
Excellent video's as usual, I've done an O8 DCC as well so can attest to how fiddly it is, Couple of questions I have re the track, having never worked with flex before, do you not replace the missing sleepers where the solder joints or track joins are? (just wondered), also do you have have any tips and tricks to transferring your anyrail plan onto the baseboard.. I've seen a few ideas but wondered what your's was... Keep up the great work!
Hi Alan , thanks for your reply . I did replace some of the sleepers I had Cut away but some where just in the wrong place where the wires were so had to leave the odd gap . i soldered originally on the inside of the rail but have since moved to soldering on the outside to make getting the sleeper back in easier . regarding the Anyrail - i scaled it to 1:1 and then printed it . I then simply taped the various sheets of paper together on the printed reference markers. once done I then un rolled the entire sheet over the baseboard. I actually nailed the track down over the template and then cut the paper away afterwards .. Hope that helps , Geoff
@@flinthillsmodelrailway Hi Geoff, that was one of the approaches I was going to take with my track, but am looking to lay a cork roadbed to start with so I guess I could pin down the cork then remove the plan?... the roadbed being just slightly wider than the track.
In some places (points and curves) I laid a sheet of Cork on pva to the board . I then put the plan over the top and laid the track. I then cut the unwanted cork away which lifted with no issues, Geoff
Hi. I find using the IPA helps to break the surface tension so the Watered Pva soaks in more even around the ballast. The alternative is to use water with fairly liquid , Geoff
Hi Paul , I'm thinking of doing another give away when i get to 500 subs , i'll start to think of some prizes . My platform width is 5cm . take care Geoff
Congratulations on your channel, your videos are great and these models are very jewel, my channel is about railroad especially of the logistic direction in Araraquara s.p - Brazil, thanks
Great update Geoff thanks for running the competition and congratulations to the winners.
Thankyou Steve
