He's no longer the person he truly was. She did it, for his own sake. She realized she's not good enough for him and could have ruined him, as she did with Polo. If Samuel brought the best of Carla to the light, sadly is the opposite thing for Carla, with Samuel. Samuel too seems to agree, because he did nothing to stop her. The relationship development from using each other to falling in love. The dynamic was so imperfectly beautiful. He humbled her. He made her feel seen and understood. He made her selfless. She made his heart beat unlike any other girl. They had the most potential which was so tragically robbed by the writers. Despite that, they remain one of the best endgame worthy couples ever. In my heart, they will always be each other's endgame despite whatever happened in the show. In my heart, he moved to London and they had their worthy ending. Carla never loved anyone the way she loves Samuel and Samuel never loved or felt for a girl, as strongly and intensely as he did for Carla. They are the very definition of soul mates.
