i've said it many times before but "this" is the best part of the internet. Having your favorite band's keyboard player go trough sounds and sharing his endless insights .......pure blessing. I do have a question tho` Matt : how do you feel about people sampling Those little snippets ? or even doing short one shots out of'em ?
The sounds are truly mesmerising. I'll never be able to afford these keyboads, but having them as a download and watching you play these sounds is just incredible. thanks for all the effort you put into these videos. It is really inspiring
Matt, I bought the pack! I had SUCH a blast playing with these sounds on my Moog One (which is an 8 voice model, worked out well for most of the presets). It was really inspiring to see how you programmed, and also HUGE thank you for setting the category with your name so I could easily find YOUR presets in my collection.
Great sounds and playing! I accidentally had on RUclips's auto-generated subtitles and it was pretty cool that several of your sounds triggered it into thinking actual words were being said. So it's not in our heads when we feel like synths are speaking to us.
Thanks for the stellar demonstration, and also the sound pack for this beautiful synth! I nearly tripped-out on the A-ha "Take On Me" colorizing, and loved the spaghetti western patch!
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamnnnnnn, You made me buy Moog One!!!!!!!!!!!! Smiling through tears, just this short intro bursting with wonderful sound makes me jumping around, what the hell. You are genius!
Been a fan of yours and jamiroquai since the 90's, at my peak metal guitar playing. Good music has no boundaries and your videos are part of the reason for me buying an analogue synth and playing keys again. Love your playing dude.
Thank you for the many Moog One programming tips! It's in my opinion that these patches should come with the Moog One ...Best I've heard for this synth thus far. In fact these are the first sounds for this synth I've heard that actually makes me want one ...You really brought it out!
Great video! Ooo I love that Ennio Morricone sounding bit at 12:56!!! And all the patches after are so smooth. Great work. I'm excited to buy the pack sometime soon. I'm inspired - Maybe I'll release a Moog One pack myself sometime. I've made a lot of bass patches I'm really happy with, and modeled some presets inspired by factory Juno 106 presets too that I think others may enjoy. I agree completely with your thoughts on the Moog One!! I love it even with the flaws.
Thanks Matt! Lovely playing and sounds! Really highlighting the huge variety of sounds this synth is capable of, with also a great usage of multi-timbrality and expression/ modulations… 🙌
A masterpiece in programming! Very nice Matt love the Japan and Clint sections also shades of early Level 42 ! Loved those eras. Back to the Nord wave…..
Matt you're an absolute master! These sounds are beautiful - I particularly loved 12:06 with the long reverby second channel. 13:26 and 15:54 These are just brilliant 💙
Great work, Matt! Purchased to support your work. Moog should have partnered with artists like yourself when they released the Moog One. I was expecting thousands of high-quality presets but alas.
My first keyboard besides the upright piano I learned on was a Yamaha CP30 in 1977. My first synth was a Prophet 5 rev2 in 1979 and current day there’s at least 35 synths in the collection including a Moog One 16. There’s Arp, Korg, Roland, Yamaha, Waldorf, E-MU, Sequential, DSI, ASM, Kawai, a couple other Moog’s and way too many VST’s around me but man I love this Moog One even with it’s flaws. Like you said Matt, it’s a keeper. I’ll promptly purchase this patch collection and thank you for all the hard work and excellent videos, you rock our keyboardist world.
Thank you for those presets. Loving them :) But even more: thank you so much for the advice about using an expression pedal. I bought one on your advice and it has opened up entirely new areas to explore on this wonderful synth. So thank you. That advice has increased my playing pleasure immensely!
hey matt, I've struggled to find a good demo of the Moog voyager, maybe you could do a video on your voyager. Seems like a pretty cool alternative to the model D.
This is awesome. We need more videos from you mate. Did you ever play around with the poly unison on the One? Reading through the manual left me wondering if you can do something like 6 saw waves supersaw if you limit yourself to 2 voices of poly unison (should give 8 notes of polyphony). Not that many videos online pushing the One to do some of this kind of stuff. Anyway, keep up the great work and more please :).
Hi Matt, Now that I have these amazing patches, I wanted to personally thank you! They are exactly what I was hoping to get. You also presented fantastic tips and tricks. Many thanks. Please feel free to cancel the restraining order at your earliest convenience.
Sooooooo, this whole presentation you did is really honest and refreshing. Many moons ago I acquired the fourth 16v made and now waiting on OB-X8 to keep us both company. Would love to see a class presented on the basics, along with tips, and tricks. Since 1.5, mainly just been messing with Lisa's presets, until now, yours also sound amazing and i'm looking forward to playing them.
I got a reply from you saying that I was a shortlisted winner. It’s been removed now, wasn’t sure if it was legit or not. Can you confirm please Matt ?
Matt, thanks again for your amazing work for YT. Probably it's the most quality content abt synths and music theory. I just wanna ask you some strange question: Did you sold your Andromeda after Moog One? =)
@@MattJohnsonJamiroquai A very musically underrated act. It’s amazing to listen to Tin Drum now and realise the Kybds are mostly just Prophet 5, OBX and Roland 100m
Oh fab! I got my Moog One just over a week ago and I’m very much in love. Appreciated your tips and I look forward to buying and reverse engineering your patches as I learn how to wield this beast! 😂
Great synthesizer in terms of internal architecture. It's basically 16 computers networked together, each with its own microprocessor, and of course the VCO and VCF chips. The instrument is on clearance in some places, at discounted prices from $9,999 to $7,849. B&H has 3 left. It's time to get one now, or never. Otherwise we'll all be stuck with the Muse, once the 250 units of Model D reissue are gone, too.
Nice Math! I have very similar thoughts about the One. It’s a mothership you got to learn and it’s not the Analog do it all indeed. It has it’s own signature and midhigh spectrum position in the freq space
Please let us know if you upload a Prophet 10/5 pack! These sounds are perfect for songwriting and to be used with songwriting or performance. Exactly what I'm looking for.
Superb Matt love your posts. As you have access to all the top keyboards, synths, classic synths etc. Can I ask as to which one would be your personal favourite ?
On a synth at this price point, and of the Moog lineage, hearing a single oscillator sawtooth this wimpy made my skin crawl. This is called "subtractive synthesis" but you've got to have something to subtract to begin with!! That being said, you've managed to program pretty good sounds out of this. Thanks for sharing. Too bad I'm not willing to mortgage my house to get a One. 😉 BTW, you're one of the very few keyboard artists who can program interesting patches exploiting the many possibilities of a synth while being able to demonstrate them with superb playing!
It’s not the oscillators that are weak it’s the INIT preset :) If you adjust its envelope shapes properly and the amount of envelope on the filter it sounds as it should :) I just can’t figure out why they let this sound by default. Fwiw a single oscillator can be very rich on the One. I was able to perfectly mimick some of my rawest mono synths like my Korg 770 with it… It’s not tricks, it’s just that there are so many variables that are usually not available on usual synths… the good point being: you can take it where you want :)
If you check the posting history of Tim Shoebridge he has done a video about fattening the oscillators to sound like what a vintage Moog should sound like. Why they didn’t ship it this way is beyond comprehension and makes me think all the teams weren’t on the same page there when this thing was released.
Consider this about the INIT patch: It was made before they fixed the Sawtooth oscillator's minimum "wave angle". I got your patches and love them, but many use the 60 microsecond wave angle instead of the 6 microsecond wave angle which produces a fuller sawtooth to work with. They decided not to update the INIT patch to have this minimal wave angle. "Foundational" analog synthesis concerns like this seem to be getting addressed, but slower than one would hope. Not a huge surprise given the amount of features they need to cover. (The other issue that makes the INIT patch not sound great is a pretty conservative gain stage. Stacking the filters in series as you describe is my default starting place.)
Yes I am aware of the extra brightness, I use it if I want to make a bright sound. It is all a bit polite at init but it's not an issue overall I think. Plenty of options!
A tutorial or just a quick comment about how you do your sampling for these packs would be fantastic, there’s a real lack of good tutorials out there for doing that kind of stuff, especially for sampling to midi controllers for live performances for instance
Thanks for your demo. I will buy your patches. You are talking about using an expression pedal. Can you recommend a specific pedal which works well with the One?
