This is an insanely impressive demo. I know how I’d accomplish most of these effects on the Amiga using copper lists or via brute force and mode x on the PC. How in the world is this being done on the C=64?!!? Also, Airwolf theme is awesome.
When I programmed the C64 I used to spend quite a lot of time assessing games, demos and effects as to how they could be made. There are always options and the skill here is the combining of different techniques both within one scene as well as from one scene to the next. Pre-generated look up tables for offsets and similar take a chunk of work from the effects, for example the waves where vertical offsets and are used to scale the graphics from 2:45 are clever and mean that the horizontal shifts are separate and therefore relatively trivial (the banding vertically is limited to 8 pixel/1 byte, i.e. character, widths). Likewise the 8 sprites used in the starfield at 5:15 are really well done with their re-use halfway down the screen only being noticeable when knowing what to look for. All great effects in this demo and very well done. These would have blown our minds when the C64 was current.
Absolutely amazing. Saw this demo yesterday at the @homecomputermuseum in Helmond, Netherlands and was blown away on what is possible on the C64. Massive kudos!
Is there a specific name for the color palette at 0:49? I noticed a lot of modern C64 demos use it, probably because it’s optimized for dithering to make it appear like there’s a lot more actual colors.
Looks like some mighty coding behind this piece of art. I wonder how much of this was prerendered on another hardware and what is generated on the fly. I doubt that C64 could handle multiple detailed 3D models with realistic lighting and cast shadows, or intricate patterns like the solar corona "dynamics" part.
the key is not how to generate the solar corona effect... but how to make it look like what it appears to be :) I spent a lot of time figuring out how to do this effect... I'm glad someone liked it :) Hedgehog/Nah-Kolor
Indeed really good, though largely inspired by censor design stuff, and especially by "We come in Peace" [made by C.D, Fairlight & Offence] . This does not prevent it from being a nice demo but at some point i felt it was a censor design demo ;)
Impressive! Both the music, the effects and the overall demo really rocks!

Huge talent. Well done folks. My favourite from X2023.

Oh, this is cool! I had moments where I totally forgot I'm watching a C64 demo ❤
Absolutely incredible.. ❤❤❤
Amazing! Loved the Airwolf theme, didn't expect that.
Nice to read... Go see the 100% version aswell :)
13:50 That glitching background text during credits
Wow!! 👏👏👏👏👏
That flute at 02:00 - just full Follin-magic.
The Airwolf theme at the and was quite a surprise, but a good one!
Great you liked my idea ;)
@@NahMagic Oh?! The Creator himself? What an honor, thank you! Keep it up!
Very decent design. Cool concept and effects.
Wow BIG CINEMA 😮 This is one of the demos I wish I could send 40 years to the past... Their minds would go 🤯🤯🤯
Huge!

Bravo! Thank you!

💪 great huge super . :)
At 14:54, there's this theme from a program I used to see the beginning of. It had a helicopter flying while this song played. Anyone remember it?
Lets see, Blue Thunder maybe? Oh wait its Airwolf 😉
@@NahMagic Yeah, Airwolf, that's the one. Thanks. Used to show on Paramount Television back in 1989.
11:59 it's not JUST a plasma, it's a freaking blazing textured sun corona 😮

I could not have said it any better! Well said! 👍
FAB!
Insane! I'm awestruck.

Superb!
Stunning effects and nice music ! It was done on good old C64 with 1MHz processor and 64k ram?
A standard C64 yes :)
@@NahMagic so smooth animation - amazing!

Wen man bedenkt das das ein 40 Jahre alter Rechner ist!!!! Keine 3D Beschleunigung,16 Farben und 3 Stimmen Soundprozessor,Hauptprozessor 1Mhz!! 👍
