I either read four pages or like 200 pages at a time and there is no in between
Literally me
same
"I want to write my own book."
Z E N I T H !
I hate book covers that have a real life human being on it. Why can't people appreciate drawn covers?! They look so much better!
IKR!
AGREED
ME TOO!! The only ones I have liked are the to all the boys I've ever loved sequel
+LOtaku YES! I also hate it when they replace the original cover with the movie/show cover. *cough* Game of Thrones *cough*
+Javier Chacon OMG I HATE THAT
Yes! it bothers me so much the way periods are just never mentioned in books. I get that they're not usually relevant to the plot, but when we have a female narrator/POV it's somewhat implausible that their period or related things never even come up in their thoughts.
Ikr
Tamora Pierce actually mentions periods in her Protector of the Small series, as well as other things related to puberty. I actually really liked it, especially since I was around 12 when I first read her books. It was really relatable 😊
+lucy rowan m I always wondered that in Hunger Games! It bugged me so much
Throne of glass mentions it and there are hilariously awkward scenes between the female character and male characters!
omg I was just thinking this!!! I read this book talking about how this girl and her bf had sex multiple times a week for like two month. I said but when did she get her period? oh
I hate going to bookstores with people because I always feel so rushed by the way they're just staring at me
I always have to carry a book around even though I don't read it, and I totally agree with you on characters in real life situations. Like seriously, farting involves one of them because everyone has to do it.
YASSSS
+Evelyn Granados (Divergentpll) Its like a comfort blanket!
+Evelyn Granados (Divergentpll) and don't forget shaving and waxing too. Whenever I read a post-apocalyptic book I'm just like " how do the girls deal with their periods when there are hardly any resources for that given to them, or will they grow a mini mustache?" XD
yeaah me too, and I read almost everytime when I'm going somewhere :D
i have 6 copies of City of Bones I feel you, girl
i started audiobooks in january and i'm obsessed
i feel like i haven't read a contemporary in years
LOL BATHROOMS
we had so many of the same ones!! xx
Emma! You should do this video.
I really hate it when the author's name is bigger than the name of the book IS IT JUST ME
+Ammarah Ahmed I hate it too, is very distracting.
My 25 bookish facts:1. I eat books like food--I read any book, and, so far, have only disliked two books.
2. I'm not a big fan of romance.3. I'll read some horror, but I won't watch it.
4. I get upset when my books or any other books I see are destroyed, or if their spine is....."broken"(quick story: one time, I noticed that at the school I used to go to, their Inkheart book had a messed up spine in which the cover was on the verge of falling off, so I fixed it up like a book doctor. Haha, get it? 'Cuz Mo.....)
5. I have more of a social awkwardness when I talk to people who don't read books.
6. It bothers me when, at school, kids complain about not wanting to read.
7. I used to doggy-ear the pages too, but now I find it to be frowned upon.
8. I bring my books everywhere I go as well! And sometimes I don't even end up reading the book. But, I feel naked without one. For me, it's like still carrying around a teddy bear. Today after school, I wasn't carrying my book, so I felt exposed.
9. I am very obsessed with fantasy. It's mostly all I read.
10. Anything with medieval politics catch my attention. I just find it so interesting.
11. Being someone who is unable to buy books like a lot of readers, the library is my best friend.
12. I love the smell of books. I'm aware it just smells like paper to me, but there's many other smells that's identifiable... I guess.
13. If I'm reading a chapter, I won't stop reading until that chapter is finished! An OCD thing of mine.
14. When I'm really into a book or almost finished with a chapter, I don't care if a bug is crawling up my leg.
15. I get pretty defensive about books.
16. When the words "books" and "burn" is in the same sentence, I unleash my rage.
17. I always try to read the book before watching the adaptation.
18. The two books I've reread the most are Black Beauty and Watership Down.
19. I still haven't read half of the books I own.
20. I like finding characters that I can relate to in a book.
21. I really like to fill my brain with information that I want to fill my brain with, such as things about the UK, history, etc.
22. I read anything. I guess it's a habit. I'll even read directions if it were put in front of my face. I'd read those Terms and Conditions Bilbo Baggins had to read.
23. I mainly read fiction. But, even when I read non-fiction, I feel lost in the book.
24. I read three books at the same time(it used to be two).
25. I sometimes jump from book to book--starting one and then never finishing it, leaving one or two aside for a while but not getting to it.... I'm a hot mess when it comes to books.
THE FACT THAT U SAID WE WERE UR FRIENDS MADE ME SO FREAKING HAPPY GOSH
YOU ARE MY FRIENDS!!!
I like the way hardcovers look, but I love the way paperbacks cost.
One thing I loved about Throne of Glass (book one) was that the girl HAD HER PERIOD. Realism for once!
Old book smell is my absolute favourite!
I write mundane things like going to the bathroom ,sleeping ,reading,in my stories.
I always think fiction characters should have problems like going to the bathroom and periods. Same with movies. It just makes them seem more real and relatable(?). I judge books by their covers to!
Same! In the 5th wave tho (movie and book) the main character has to look for tamponsXD
+Gracily S And also, when people don't brush their teeth, ever. Or go to sleep without brushing their teeth and (usually in contemporary) without taking their makeup off (and still have flawless skin) COME ON PEOPLE.
+Gracily S Yes! When I'm reading from the POV of a female character I often find myself thinking things like "Wait, don't you need to stop and think if you need some tampons before you run off on that adventure without even bringing a bag?"
lucy rowan m OMG Yes!
YES to realistic characters who need to use the bathroom and have periods and everything else human!!!
I completly agree! SPOILER! While I was reading the House of Hades and Annabeth was in Tartarus for a month, I was only able to think that she doesn't have period or if she does where she got tampons.
I love how hardbacks feel, but I love how much paperbacks cost more.
hahaha, here its the other way round with the prices
Where's that?
I TOTALLY agree with your bathroom thing, like come on people, just because they're fiction does not mean they aren't human
omg i love it when characters actually go to the bathroom during books, especially genres like fantasy because it just feels so much more relatable and realistic ! so glad i'm not the only one ! x
I feel guilty about folding pages to XD
+Monkeybread300 Gaming SAAAAAME
bonding exercises. DOES THAT COUNT AS CARDIO
When Cealena (from throne of glass) had her period I was like 'first book I've ever read when something normal happens.'
I tottaly understand your ''bathroom-fetish'' xD
Have you ever wondered what the students at Hogwarts do if they have to pee at night? and where do they brush their teeth? Nowhere in the books is it mentioned that they have a toilet in their commonrooms or bedrooms!
III KNOW! I've wondered that for ever!
YAAS on the paperbacks!! i find it annoying reading hardcover, but they look nicer on my shelf!
YES! Periods in books. Most books never actually mention that the period is a thing that happens every single month to women. It's actually a pretty huge thing in girls' lives but it's completely ignored. Also, illnesses other than terminal illnesses? Colds etc.
If I see a book with a nice cover, I'll probably look into it. If it has an ugly or meh cover, I won't unless it was recommended to me or I've heard of it being really good.
I totally understand the bathroom thing! Like I love when the author includes stuff like that.
I was literally just talking about the bathroom thing with my parents and they looked at me like I was crazy. Which is actually anytime I talk about books, lets be real
I seriously judge a book by it's cover and I am not ashamed one bit. Pretty covers are everything.
Celaena talks about her having her periode in throne of glass and she takes aedion to pee when he was injured in queen of shadows .
+Kenza Nassiri I laughed so much when she started singing really loud so aedion could pee
When I buy a book I check the same 20 books and see which one is the best without folds and other things.
loll samee
Alyssa Godina this is literally me 😂
0 dislikes, that's how amazing Sasha is 💘
I cant stand it when they put the characters "film version" on the cover.
me toooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
I always take a book with me where ever I go even if it's an occasion where readings impossible.
Literally the same! I love how hard cover books look but I love how paperback books feel.
I'm exactly the same way. I LOVE IT when authors write about a character going to the bathroom!!! it never happens and it makes me happier when they do.
I feel what you said about characters using the bathroom on a personal level. It drives me absolutely up a wall, especially when something is written to insinuate a character is trapped somewhere or doing some activity for hours and hours, or if a story is continuous without skipping over anything, because that's just so illogical. I'm stressed just writing this and thinking about it. Same with periods. I want an awesome heroine on an adventure grumbling about cramps!
I feel the same way with the bathroom thing. it just makes the characters seem more real and human.
Ermagaaawd I feel the same!!! I have the same pet peeve! It really grinds my gears when the characters don't use the bathrooms or magically don't have to deal with periods! Throne of Glass was like the first book ever that mentioned periods! Thank you, Sasha. I thought I was the only one.
In my book "secrets of Arithian" my main character talks about her awkward moment at lunch and about what she thinks about other while taking a shower, so thank god it's not only me that thinks that some books should talk about everyday struggles.
OMG OMG YOU LOVE AUDIOBOOKS TOO!?
YESS
+Kat the phandom is even in booktube. omg.
+Sebastián Silva We are everywhere. :)
I really dont see the point in audiobooks
Morgane Lamothe hell yeah
I agree about the whole characters needing to be more human like getting spots and going to the toilet etc, when I read Throne of Glass and she got her period I was like 'Yes finally'
+Cherrie Walker Tumblr would explode if they heard you say that.
I totally agree! The reason why I love Princess diaries is coz everything about it is so real! Love the details and awkwardness of the series!
Here's a quote from a friend of mine: Don't judge a book by its cover counts for everything but books. So true!
the bathroom/period one is such a thing for me too. I almost cried when Cassie mentioned packing tampons in the 5th wave
My favorite thing about you is that you make me soo excited for reading more books 🖤🖤
OMG yes! The bathroom thing is my # 1 pet peeve too! I loved how in the 5th wave Rick Yancey acknowledged Cassie's need for more tampons and such! I think that's the only time I remember there being an acknowledgement to human needs and such in a fantasy novel
You are not alone. I love seeing benign, human things in books (bathroom, shower, period, brushing teeth, acne....). It makes characters more relatable to me, so authors should be required to have at least one of them.
I totally agree with the bathroom thing!
Under the Never Sky was the first book I read where periods were actually mentioned. Made me happy! 😊
I stared at your beautiful new paperback editions of the shadowhunters series throughout the whole video😍
yaaassss historical fiction and fantasy!!! and I'm totally with you on the whole mass market paperback thing, they're so flimsy!!!
and I'm also a book-cover-judger and unashamed
I feel the same way about hard covers and paperbacks! Hardcovers are gorgeous, but paperbacks feel amazing!
Speaking of bathrooms, I love the Uncle John's Bathroom Reader series! I happen to be a useless information junkie! lol! =D
I actually love realistic things in fantasy books, and going to the bathroom is actually a really good example of that!
Dear Sasha,
I know that you probably get letters like this everyday but I still want to write you one. I love your videos so much. You have changed me. Back when I started watching your videos I was lost in the book world and lost all my motivation to read because I couldn't find any books to read. You were the first Booktuber I ever watched and I immediately became obsessed with your videos. Seeing you (kind of) growing older on RUclips made my grow older too. When I watch your old videos I see a teenage girl who loves books. When I watch your new videos I see the same girl, but more mature and even more beautiful than before. Back in 2014 when I started watching your videos, I was super awkward, insecure and just shy. Your videos have helped me to accept myself (I know that it sounds crazy.) Your confidence, your friendliness everything just inspired me and helped me grow into the person I am now. I am still 15 (almost 16!) and I know that I'll continue to grow, but you already(...)
OMG YESSSS SNACKING WHILE READING IS THE BEST THING EVER
i totally get the bathroom thing! for me its always when characters wakw up in the morning and IMMEDIATELY have long conversations and get up from bed and go on adventures without like going to the toilet or changing their clothes or having breakfast
Zenith is gonna be in bookstores this month girl!!!! ❤️
Totally agree with the hardcover/paperback thing paperbacks are nicer to read and carry but hardcovers are just so pretty
"I want to write my own book! Someday, hopefully" ZENITH!!! I'm so proud of haw far you've come, Sasha :,)
I totally agree about the bathroom thing. I loved in Throne of Glass when she mentioned Celaena getting her monthly cycle. It humanize so the characters so much more and makes them more relatable!
Definitely agree with the bathroom one! With Fantasy where they go on a quest and none of the characters ever stop for toilet breaks? Even when being hunted by murderous villains?
Oh my gosh Sasha, the bathroom thing never even occurred to me. I cracked up when you said that. 😂😂 Definitely going to have to do one of these videos!!
Sometimes when I read a book, I can't focus on the plot so much, because I think: "When does she pee?!", so I'm really glad, that you want to add these moments to your own book! :D
I get really excited when a character gets their period- I don't know why, but it is something that makes them more real to me. ALSO, Emerson College's major of Writing, Literature, and Publishing is by far my dream major, Emerson is my top school of right now and I'm really freaking out about getting in because you seem like you're having a lot of fun and I know a boy who started as a freshmen second semester and he seems to be loving it too but yeah
I love it when a protagonist has something in common with me. When I found out Clary was short at the beginning of TMI I totally freaked out and it's one of my fav things about the series!!!!!!!!
So glad I'm not the only one who judges a book by its cover!
Someone else who is obsessed with audiobooks! I'm trying to write a book as well *sigh to myself 'one day Ella, one day'*
Yes I totally agree with characters going to the bathroom and stuff it makes it so much more realistic and normal and I feel I can relate to the characters better when u feel like their human.
I agree with you about the book smell!!! I just can't smell the "wonderful" scent that everyone talks about.
you're not alone! bathroom, putting on shoes, shower!, etc!!!!
YES OMG i really do think discussing the monthly pains we endure, in books makes the situation more realistic, esp when it's a female protagonist. And hopefully one day i would write about it in my own book.
Thank you.. thank you... thank you! Someone finally said it about characters using the bathroom! I'm currently writing an epic fantasy and I made a point of how awkward it was for a runaway princess to even attempt going to the toilet while on the run... it involved several falls and a compromising position when her guard finally showed up! I love your channel and your inspiring to keep reading and writing... and generally surviving further education! Thank you!
GETTING THE HARD COVER AND REMOVING THE DUST JACKET THAT'S SUCH A GREAT IDEA!!! I'm definitely going to write a scene where they're like "*boom* let's go do this thing - but first does anyone need the loo?"! :) x
I love how you said I like how hardbacks look but I love how paperbacks feel! Same!
me too - it's so stupid cause i totally prefer reading paper backs but hard backs just look so much better in my shelf *bookworm problem*
The truth has been spoken (unless the characters have a really, really, really big bladder that can hold for years and years and years)! Give this girl a cookie!
I feel the same way about the bathroom!!!! ahhhh! :D I thought I was the only one
I can already see sasha's characters in her future book having conversations on the toilet and having period emergencies every chapter. ;) that would be great💕💕
You're not the only one Sasha!!! I'm with you girl ahah It really does make them seem more human!
I do the same thing with carrying a book everywhere I go. I also love audiobooks! I'm listening to Truthwitch right now. And I'm so with you-- going to the bathroom is just more realistic. Thanks for the vidoe, Sasha!
OMG! I'm totally with you in the bathroom thing, Sasha! I tought I was the only one who noticed that type of things :)
Mass market paper back books are like the Lidil of the book world haha XD
Loved hearing these facts Sasha! I have faith in you to write your own book! I'm sure it will be fantastic
Omg the one you said about periods is so true and it always gets on my nerves that it's never included in books
OMG watching this two weeks before ZENITH comes out is so great, glad your dream of writing a book is coming true!
I too carry my book around everywhere even when i know that i won't get an opportunity to read it you know..just in case...and yes!!love how hardcover looks but also love how paperbacks feels💗
I totally agree on the bathroom thing! So glad I'm not the only one!
I am obsessed with audiobooks as well. Can't stop won't stop.
I love how much you upload even though you are in college ☺ really love your videos, they are goals 😂
Yes thank you!!!! I am seriously so glad I'm not the only one that thinks they should have serious things like the bathroom and periods and stuff. Like we don't need details but it would be nice to know if the character still operates like a human.
I swear everytime you make a video my eyes just drift towards the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series cause it just looks so pretttyyyyy!!!!
I've seen your snapchats recently and omg you're so healthy HOW SASHA HOW
Hahaha I try! Thank you :)
+abookutopia 1. omg I can't believe you replied 😄❤️ 2. And also because of you I've read throne of glass (currently reading crown of midnight- it's amazing!) and also red queen so thank you for giving me more fictional characters to ship together 😂😂🙌🏼
fresh crisp paper smell is what I love..♡♡
I judge the book by its cover too. People say you shouldn't but it will be sitting on my shelf so i want it to look pretty
I brought Soundless, a library copy, with me to volunteer. I was walking and biking to a big city three hours away. I opened my Sunkist, put it in the bottle holder in my backpack, and it was spilling everywhere. It got on the bottom of Soundless and I'm so ashamed. ;-; And Queen of Shadows, another library book, fell from my grasp, and a couple pages got a fold. This video made me confess to my crimes.
Omg yes SAME about the basic human needs thing, it made me so happy when the 5th Wave mentioned tampons lol
I totally agree with the toilet one. I prefer a book when the characters also eat and drink, because that doesn't always get included.
Such a good point about characters going to the bathroom hahaha I've never thought about that but now I probably always will, thanks Sasha lol lol
My grandmother was talking about reading Outlander and I mentioned that it is my friend's (you, but she would have no idea what booktuber meant) favorite book and she is going to read it! Also I love when periods are mentioned in books because they show realistic struggles and how everyone is human! (Go TOG!)
OMG Yesss! I really enjoy it when characters go to the bathroom or do normal stuff like that, it makes them so much more relatable. I also judge books by its covers and try to buy the edition with the beautiful cover (sorry not sorry). I often buy a second copy of a book because i forget i already own it, or so that it will match the others in the series. Lastly, some of the first books I ever bought are crumpled and ugly (because they were printed with recycled paper) so ill most likely just buy them again
