@@jodypritzl8250 Great video! I’m just beginning to collect vintage ornaments so this is very helpful! I am trying to identify and old ornament that I have. It is pink fish scale and has a tiny round cap that has a small circle in the center with the letters CO and CA on the cap. I’m concerned that it may have asbestos “snow” on it as opposed to mica. Would you have any idea on the maker based on the cap? I bought it at an antique store and if it’s asbestos I don’t want it in my house!
I decorate a 7' green snowed tree with all stenciled ornaments - aka "Shiny Brites" - lol! You did a fantastic job on this video! I read the December Glow magazine and saw the link to this site at the end in the "About the Author" section. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this topic with the rest of us Glowers!

So happy to have found your site. You answer so many of the questions I have had regarding American made ornaments. I watch all your videos and Santa is bringing me 2 books! for Christmas. Thank you for sharing some of your collection with us.
Sandra, thanks for watching the videos and buying my books. Opening a new book on Christmas Day is magical. A wise relative once told me, "Our lives change by the people we meet, the books we read, and the places we see".
Wow, I learned so much! Thank you! Your collection is beautiful and you have a lovely way of sharing the information. I look forward to seeing more. Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much for making these videos on vintage glass Christmas ornaments. I collect also ornaments from Poland And Germany as I have Polish heritage. 🎅🤶

Such a great video! I am a collector of vintage and shiny brite ornaments now I can understand what I actually have! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Your ornaments are so pretty!
Had to come back to this video and let you know I recently bought your Immigrants, Ornaments and Legacies book. Can't wait to find some free time to dive into it! Would you consider writing a book on the history of American x-mas lighting?
There are some really knowledgeable lighting experts. I would consider partnering with them to write a book. In the meantime though, I offer a suggestion. A Golden Glow membership includes access to back issues of the magazine which has covered vintage lighting. Just a thought..... Jody
Hi! I just found you channel a few days ago and have enjoyed watching all of your videos. I had no idea about the caps having 5, 10 and 15 cents stamped on them. I'm going to have to check my caps! 😂 I ordered your book on American Made Glass Christmas Ornaments. This will be a great reference to age my Ornaments when I drag them all out again this winter! I'm thinking the stenciled Shiny Brite bulb came in 3 sizes- regular, small and the jumbo ones that were sold in that 3 pack dimestore box??? I was wondering if that is correct and in what order they were released or did they make all the different sizes from the start? Thank you for any info! PS- The Merry Christmas with Holly Spray is my favorite as well.
Sizes are tricky with a lot of combinations. I can date 3" bulbs to 1947 but the three packs weren't introduced until the 1950s. 1 3/4", 2", 2 1/4" were original sizes and date to 1939-forward in boxes of one dozen but were introduced as five packs, six packs, and eight packs in the 1950s and 1960s. Glad to help identify any specific ornaments, email me at booksbyjody2021@gmail.com or go through the website, booksbyjody.com. I may someday just decorate an entire tree with Merry Christmas with Holly Spray.....
Thank you for this. I love the Shiny Brite mica ornaments and have several with Merry Christmas, scenes, and a couple of nursery rhymes. I also have several unsilvered ornaments, one with the cardboard cap (that I don't hang). You didn't mention the mica snow-cap ornaments, and I have several of those, too. How old are they?
So glad I found your channel, great information, I learned a lot!!! I am from upstate NY never knew Corning did the glass for the ornaments. I better get to collecting them.
I have lived 50+ years in or near Baltimore and I rarely see any Franke bulbs or ornament boxes! You rarely even hear about the company, even tho it was a major producer. I'm going to order your book to learn more about Franke!
Kitty, I love telling the George Franke Company story. So unknown and an important piece of Baltimore history. I put up a Franke ornament tree this year right along side the Shiny Brite tree. If you'd like to see it, email me at booksbyjody2021@gmail.com.
Hi…The vintage unsilvered balls with the un stamped top with straight edge…are those premier?…I have some un stamped tops bulb that came in a premier box…I saw your video about that premier stamped their bulbs..
Just happened to come upon this great video today! I have several several bins of vintage glass ornies, and now I'll be able to properly identify more of them! I too am a Glower! Any info on where we can purchase your book?
Gaelle, hope to see you in Chicago next July. You can purchase the book from amazon here's the link www.amazon.com/Immigrants-Ornaments-Legacies-American-Christmas/dp/1097169650/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=jody+pritzl&qid=1639151488&s=books&sr=1-1
Dear goddess of christmas ornaments when did precious moments make ornaments and do you think they are worth collecting? and how do you feel about Avon ornaments?
I feel if you love it, the ornament makes you happy, it is worth collecting. I no nothing about Precious Moments and Avon but apparently the are popular.
Hello, another Glower here! I just acquired two small 2" opaque pastel snow scenes. They are unsilvered and have a 5 written on them (not the 5 cent cap) in possibly grease pencil (like a five and dime might do). They seem older than my other stencils. Have you run into these? I'm trying to figure out a date.
Terry, glad to help. Can you send a couple pictures to booksbyjody2021@gmail.com so I can take a look? Thanks for watching, hope we are a go for the Golden Glow convention in July.
I like crochet snowflakes and own about two dozen that were made by family members. Some years they hang on my fireplace mantle from greenery. I don't know much about them. My ability to only single crochet a scarf makes me appreciate the talent of others that created the snowflake gifts.
Aren't reflectors also known as indents? What years do the reflectors date to? Also, I'm curious to know when was the last year for the original run of SB's, and what has happened to the SB brand between then and when Christopher Radko bought the rights to the name. Finally, what's your professional opinion of the Radko-era SB's? Thank you in advance for taking time out to answer my inquiries.
To lessen confusion, I'm sticking with reflectors. First introduced in Germany, some reflectors date to the 1800s. For American-made, Premier was first in at least 1939 followed by Corning-produced. If you have time, I did a video on reflectors. Cliff notes version of my books.....Max Eckardt sold Shiny Brites in 1955, multiple ownership changes, the brand went dormant, until Christopher Radko recreated the iconic designs. I applaud Mr. Radko for honoring the legacy of Shiny Brites. Perhaps, reproductions have inspired people to rescue and preserve the original Corning bulbs. I just hope that if an ornament is a reproduction it is clearly stated as such to a buyer.
Great video! I am beginning to collect vintage ornaments and this video is so informative. I am trying to identify an old ornament by the cap. The cap is small and round but has a small circle in the center. The cap is short and has no scalloping whatsoever. It has CA and CO on the cap. I’m afraid that the “snow” is asbestos rather than mica. It is pink glass with white fish scales. Can you recommend someone who might be able to identify it? Where can I get your book?
Lisa, Thanks for watching. Email me the ornament's story and snap a top, bottom and side picture and I'll take a look. Send information to booksbyjody2021@gmail.com. The book is available on Amazon. 2
Tracy, I suggest reading the Amazon reviews. Most readers say the book helps them identify what they have, another expressed disappointment. I wrote the book to preserve the history of American Made Glass Christmas ornaments. After ten years of writing and 385 endnotes, nearing the publication, i added in ten pages of black and white photographs, naming the ornaments, grouped by years and a page of ornament caps.
