It does show a bit of a problem with the Olympics (and for that matter the World Cup of Football and some other competitions). The Olympics is supposed to have the best athletes in the world but you can be the top athlete in the world in your sport and still never get a chance to go to the Olympics if your country's team is not that strong and never qualifies for the Olympics. I can see why he doesn't want to play for France and can't really see a reason why he would play for France and I can see how he feels ties to the United States after living their so long but it seems overkill for not only players who grew up in the United States to play for the American team but also players who grew up somewhere else and then went to the United States half way through high school or when they started university. Virtually every Canadian player went to the United States half way through high school so just as much as Embiid could claim a connection to the United States and decide to play for the American team. Imagine if SGA and Murray also decided to play for the American team. The American team already has such a huge advantage given its huge population. It shouldn't also be getting players who grew up in another country and then moved to the United States to finish high school or to go to university once they had already shown they had great basketball talent. It's like a European hockey player who moved to Canada to play junior hockey deciding to play for Canada instead of for his home country. Canada's national hockey team doesn't need that help and doesn't deserve that help. In the same way the American national basketball team doesn't need Embiid's help and doesn't deserve Embiid's help. (though surprisingly Embiid has apparently not looked very good on the court so far) Maybe, just as the Olympics had a refugee team it should also have a teams of top athletes from countries that have no hope of making the Olympics in some team sports - in other words Embiid and Siakim could play on a team of players from a variety of countries that are weak in basketball.
Good job here ! Thank you for your serious work about that sad story. I'm glad he finally choose to play for the US : we, as French, don't need a mercenary like him, with no respect for his word, himself, the country, the french basketball federation, and all the people who have to wait for years to earn the french nationality. I feel he would have brought more problems than otherwise, and if I had to choose, I'd have preferred a good silver medal (even it will be difficult with so many good team this time) to a gold one which would have had a taste of cheating. I also prefer to admire our new jewel, Victor beautifully playing alongside Rudy like their first time against Germany, Rudy with his offensive limitations, but who is always here and play with his heart to make us proud of our team.
Thanks for watching and for your perspective. Unfortunate that Embiid led the French astray and bailed on them in the end. Him, Gobert, and Wemby would probably been the greatest defensive front court ever in international play

He should represent Cameroon. Imagine what impact this could have on raising profile, resources and potentially highlighting future talent that would never get scouted without media interest. It's not quite that simple. That rule sounds good in a way but some people left their birth country at a very young age and grew up somewhere else. Canada's best soccer (football) player Alphonso Davies was born in a refugee camp in Ghana to Liberian parents who had no permanent status in Ghana and the family moved to Canada about Alphonso's 5th birthday. Alphonso developed as a soccer player and became a professional soccer player in Canada and then moved to Germany to play on one of the best club teams in the world. According to your rule he would play for Ghana even though neither he nor his parents ever had any status in Ghana and even though he grew up in Canada and learned to play soccer while growing up in Canada. You would really force Alphonso Davies to play for Ghana, a country he probably can barely remember at all and never really saw because he was in a refugee camp there, and even though neither he nor his parents ever had citizenship or any resident status in Ghana? I think it should be exceptional that players who move to another country once they have proven their talent in a sport be allowed to play for that country - situations such as when it is unsafe for them to go to their home country or simply that their home country has a dictatorship they detest. But if someone moves to a new country when they are a small child and develop as an athlete in their new country they should be allowed to represent their new country which they grew up in.
@@geofflepper3207 i sympathize your logic however flawed it may be. I too grew up in refugee camps and moved to the United States when I was 12. @@geofflepper3207 2 years or 5 or even 10 years, I could make an exception for. Embid spent 16 years in Cameroon. That qualifies to state: he was born and raised in Cameroon. Cameroon is the country he should've played for. If they didn't qualify, he should've sat out. Not bandwagon hop. Definitely case by case bases. Tony Parker (former NBA player) was born in Belgium, to a mother from the Netherlands and a Father from the US. But he's French. Simply because he was a few moths old when his dad was playing basketball there in France. He grew up in France, France is his primary language (English came a little later), he went to School in France. Tony Parker is withouta doubt French as French can be.
Its not about the country your born in but the country you identify with, do you know how much americans are playing for team nigeria or team cameroon. Lets players play where they want to play
Man has no national pride. Chicken has a great history of playoff failures so, hey goes the easy way to get a medal. Real men: Giannis. Luke, Joker, Wemby.....
You're probably right. Embiid is a better scorer but team usa don't need any more scoring power. They need a stopper like Wemby. Wemby averages more steals and assists and more than twice as many blocks, and that's on restricted minutes as a rookie. Rebounds is almost the same already but Joel averages 6 more points. If they played the same amount of minutes then Wemby has better combined stats. And that's only Wemby's rookie year. I think next season Wemby will catch him and the season after he will overtake every centre in the world. Maybe every player.
Embid should be ban from international basketball for this. Trying to get citizenship to represent the country is quite common in Olympic but using it as a lie is different story.

(though surprisingly Embiid has apparently not looked very good on the court so far)
Maybe, just as the Olympics had a refugee team it should also have a teams of top athletes from countries that have no hope of making the Olympics in some team sports - in other words Embiid and Siakim could play on a team of players from a variety of countries that are weak in basketball.
@@caninex "would probably been" ... on the paper, for sure, and it would've been something so exciting to watch at least one time, but it is what it is !
Neither should be an option, he should just play for Cameroon and if they can't qualify that's their problem. It would be cool to see Serbia and Jokic upset team usa.
That’s a fair opinion
Cameroon can't afford the insurance for him or Siakam
i dont understand how he can play for France if hes never lived there? he just speaks the language but he was born and raised in Cameroon, and lived in America
At this point its up to the French to show him he is not welcome
To be fair he should never be allowed to represent USA. He is a U.S citizen not an American. He should represent his country of birth or that of his parents or grandparents. He should represent Cameroon. Imagine what impact this could have on raising profile, resources and potentially highlighting future talent that would never get scouted without media interest. Embiid chose the U.S for glory, not for the honour of singing the national anthem of your country with hand on heart and flag. His children can represent the U S if they were born stateside or gheir mother is an American.
Unless he applied for one to be naturalized. Which he'll easily get
He could have done so but his country isn't investing enough in the sport or may not quality for those matches.
He live more time in America than Cameroun and to be honest this whole country have only US citizen. The real american are in this place you call "reserve"
I was very confused about this as well to the point where when I first heard this that I thought they meant he was playing for team France. He shouldn't be playing at all , it does feel like he is just trying to get an easy medal.
I congratulate him because he didn’t played for France thank you bro
Tu a bien fais 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Representing your African country instead of representing another country
USA was so afraid to loss so they recruited embid for easier win in olympics. USA is home of the best basketball player are still afraid of getting lose.
What’s up with his middle name „Hans“? Is there a German lineage somewhere?
I have no idea
should play for Cameroon
I don’t think they qualified
I have lost respect for embiid..but then..he is just someone who plays great basketball and gets paid well..no one expected him to be more than that...
From the sounds of it France didn’t want him.
They got him citizenship to the country to play for them. How does it sound like they didn't want him?
Your hard at hearing apparently, dude asked the president of France for citizenship to play for France. They were mad after he joined the US that they were calling for his citizenship to be revoked
I want to see USA team play with France team in the final.🤣🤣
Do you know how hard it is for African Teams to just be organized. Chances are they even asked for him to pay them to be considered for the Cameroonian National Team. I feel your video is half baked since it did not explore his reasons for not choosing Cameroon. On snubbing France i understand they wanted to give him undue pressure, i would have snubbed France also given the comments by French players. USA actively courted him whilst France just threw their passport to him but without the current Admin or players actively seeking him out
don't reverse things... he's the one who tried to have nationality and try to play with France... he's just an opportunist and I'm glad he doesn't represent my country
It's a no brainer DOH!!!
He wants the medal in a ease way
They reject him. Player of France doesn’t want him. Until he became MVP
He will play for Canada soon, then for Germany
Don't forget serbia
Yeah, Canada does have Fremch provinces. It is a bilingual speaking Country (English-French) Embid will just say he's from Montréal.😂😂😂
To be fair also--the French team already has 2 starting caliber Centers.
The coach said he would've started all 3 of them together
Why was he given a deadline to play by the France team? Anyway knowing both countries I think he made a better decision. France would have never really accepted him as one of them. He was just going to be used. I don’t even know why he wanted to play for France in the first place
I mean you guys really are shocked? Its embiid were talking about
He is from CAMEROON in Africa and doesn't want to play for their colonial masters, France. But rather for the imperialist called America. Shit Happens.
He chose DA BEST! 🤷🏿
Stop the hate just embrace and respect his decision WTF your just making a content out of it getting viewers. You have Hakeem Olajuwon and others was not even born in the U.S. but was able to play in USA.
I never said I didn't respect or hate his decision, I just made a video of the timeline that led up to it....
@@caninex you have Paolo Banchero who comitted to Italy but in the last minute change his mind to play for team USA. Its their decision if you want to play for any country because they have those options which flag should they present
Again, find where I didn’t respect or hate his decision… I understand it’s his choice. I just made a video of things that happened leading up to it
@@drewgallo6958of you dont see a problem, you are part of the problem. Cameroon was eliminated(his homeland), France gave him FREE citizenship after he sent a request letter.Do you know how hard it is to get a passport as a foreigner?
He betrayed France and joined USA as a desperate way to earn a medal.
Shameless, pathethic, disgusting!
Cant pass the second round for 9 years in PO's and now he is medal chasing 😂
Nobody has to respect their decision. In fact joel brought this on himself so not sure why you're so surprised people are hating on it.
People need to leave the man alone, let him do whatever he wants
Bro post be to on South sudan
Cant believe he one upped KD in the sport of frontrunning
Embiid is injury prone. The only thing he would be good for is to injure and hurt opposing players.
Yall know very little about Cameroon. Cameroon is essentially a neo colonial french colony. Their currency is the African Franc controlled by france, they have a 91 yearold dictator who has been in power for nearly half a century supported by guess who, France. I wouldnt want to play for Cameroon either.
Your Cameroonian….start there
He ain't french bro those coaches need to stop actin he like he broke they heart
Joel is a snake.
No honour in sports...
Cry
He wanted to join France in his early years yet some players declined. So it's a right choice to join US
@@itsme-vw5yoNo
if all these international players are saying their is no honor is sports, then get out of the NBA and play in your respective countries..
@@slinkybeans2442i am crying and may end my life over this if i do its your fault
What Embid did is he stub a devil in the bck. France will beat the USA. The guy wasted all France effort then turn them down. What a shame Joel.
France hated they way out of gold wemby Embiid & rudy starting 5 would have been crazyb
Imagine if Africa was one country😅😅😅 team would have been crazy😅😅
He wants to beat Giannis and Jokic in Europe
but hes cameroonian
Embiid looks cooked.
Born in Africa, but "deceived" France?
nimbaplease
He's chasing the win. Just like in the NBA. Not a real player. Just big.
could have been a legend for France with Wemby, but never on some over stacked USA team. I tell if this guy is floppin and foul baiting around the floor, which isn't that easy in FIBA and USA gets kicked out, xenophobe Media will blame him. Embiid ain't very smart...
Embiid is so dramatic LOL
That’s not a problem His American
How do I know he's French? He's as fragile as French fries... but French fries are an American thing.... I'm confused now
Batum: “I am against naturalized people”. Wow what a jerk. I know plenty of French Naturalized citizens. I wonder if this is how all “Pure Born” French people think.
you did not understand . he is against naturalization for sporting purposes... and yes I think like him. naturalizing a person to represent my country when he has never lived here is not normal. All players of African origin in the French team were born or at least grew up in France. otherwise they shouldn't represent us
He is talking in regards to national sports. Tony Parker is actually a naturalized citizen of France. He was born in Belgium to a mother from the Netherlands and a Father from the US.
Just look at Tony Parker's response. He mentioned it being crazy to pick someone who "didn't grow up in a country". He didn't say was born. As he knows he wasn't born in France, but he grew up there and is French as French can be.
@@athrunzala6770wouldn't that include Batum too? He is part African origin as well. Or is it OK since his mom is French. As his dad is definitely African. That's not a "pure" Frenchman.
@@youtubeuserzzzz demande a Tony Parker si il ce sens français ou belge .. tu vas comprendre mon point mieux regarde sont interview sur clique
@@youtubeuserzzzz Only racists are interested in pure blood. Besides, I never talked about it. Because here in France we apply the law of the soil and not the law of blood. Besides, as I said, I am against someone who has not lived in France representing us. Talking about Batum is nonsense lol. He even has a stadium named after him in France. What's more, he grew up here and he even wore a t-shirt about the Charlie tragedy in 2015. Besides, he supports the development of basketball in France with Tony
Straight tether behavior smh 🤦🏾♂️
Who cares. Its his career and he chose to play with the best team on paper. The french got played and lost the game. Thats life
The guy is useless anyway. Sympathy MVP.
He got a bout of LeBronism and was motivated by chasing a gold medal
Embiid is a worm, he chooses what gives him the best chances of winning. I hate that since he should show love to his home country first. Especially when you consider he became a US and French Citizen fairly newly.
Embiid should have stayed with the volleyball plan.
its funny how french are against naturalized player but getting an african athletes on their team 😂
He is most pity person in bb game.
If he doesn't feel french he shouldn't play for france, there shouldn't be any animosity, it's his choice who he supports
except that it was he who did everything to get the passport and now he is turning his back. normal animosity.....
@@athrunzala6770 we shouldn't give passport to people just so that they can be part of an Olympic team when they don't even feel french
@@MrTrak08 je suis d'accord aussi là dessus mais c'est lui qui a contacté l'équipe de France a la base donc normal qu'on l'a mauvaise après sont retournement de veste
Kyrie Irving did a similar thing
Kyrie's parents were born and are from America, he was just born in Australia
Dude kyrie is literally from America dumb ahh
Saying Embiid is french is like saying 21 Savage is British. Embiids American let him play for america
21 Savage was born in England
@@ronbrown7941 wow I never would have guessed I had no clue. I should have done my research like you. Why would i use a simile comparing Embiids "french-ness" to 21 Savage "English-Ness", I dont make sense at all
He is not born French or American so who cares!
Everyone just needs to play where they are born. Simple.
I think it should be exceptional that players who move to another country once they have proven their talent in a sport be allowed to play for that country -
situations such as when it is unsafe for them to go to their home country or simply that their home country has a dictatorship they detest.
But if someone moves to a new country when they are a small child and develop as an athlete in their new country they should be allowed to represent their new country which they grew up in.
@@geofflepper3207 i sympathize your logic however flawed it may be. I too grew up in refugee camps and moved to the United States when I was 12. Everybody in America specifically black Americans never let me forget that I'm from South Sudan. I didn't mind of course but the optics will forever be cringe ASF if I tried to pass as American. It is what it is. Simple. If Joel played for Cameroon, our dialogue wouldn't exist.
Why bother, doesn’t guarantee gold anyway…
That’s easy choice USA is best country in the world!!!
u african bro
He can be the best big man in Team USA. He'd be number 2 if he played for France
I don't think Wemby is a better player than Embiid right now, maybe in 2-3 years he will be
You're probably right.
How is he on the USA team. Is he even a citizen. No wonder he's playing like crap right now.
Who cares.. he went to high school and college in America so why not represent USA
Embid should be ban from international basketball for this. Trying to get citizenship to represent the country is quite common in Olympic but using it as a lie is different story.
Isn't he from Camaroon? Do you know the relationship between Camaroon and Imperialist France? Dumb iz ya?!
Please i advise you not to go into to the comment section they don’t know the difference between country of origin/ birth and becoming a citizenship. It’s a bunch of kids 🤦🏾♂️
I see why he wanted to play for France but if the players don’t want him then he should play for a team that appreciate he’s mvp talent. Those ignorant French players will never sniff Olympic metal
To be fair, the French players said that stuff in 2018, before Embiid started to play at an MVP level
in France we don't really like mercenaries. and history proves that they were right to be suspicious of him
