Here in Wisconsin. I used to fog the engine in the Fall, but not any more. Now I make it a point to start my bikes once a month during the Winter. I wait of a day when the temperature is above freezing. By doing this I'm sure that all those moving parts in the engine are seeing oil. Same with the carbs / injectors seeing something new in the way of gasoline. I let the the bikes warn up long enough to get the moisture out of the mufflers.

Wash the bike and put a good coat of wax.
Also try peppermint extract on paper towels in the exhaust pipes, mice hate it.
