Pumpkin pie is a fall staple here in the States. Most people tend to let it cool first or refrigerate the pie before eating it. Maybe Mike would enjoy it better that way. :-D
I love watching the two of you..reminds me of the times my boyfriend and I used to cook together. We are in a LDR at the moment and it sucks :( You both make the best couple ever..we indeed need Fleur and Mike in our life! xxx
I actually just found out yesterday that when you use a fresh pumpkin, you need to let it drain for a few hours after you roast it because there's a lot of water in it. However, it did look delish!
This is the cutest video EVER! I love all the Halloween-y sound effects! 🎃☺️... and now I'm inspired to bake my own pumpkin pie! Happy Halloween, Fleur & Mike! Suggestion for a new cooking video.... have a NUTELLA baking competition (since it's Mike's favorite)!!!
definitely try the pumpkin pie chilled. i think it's best that way :) those candied pecans on top look like an amazing addition! one of my favorite pies for this time of year is buttermilk. it's very custardy and sweet and delicious! would love to see y'all cook some good southern food like that one!!! or cornbread?
Super fun! We luv Halloween! Each of us carves our own pumpkin (my husband did Jack Skellington this year and I did a haunted house with a spooky full moon and bat. Of course we dress up, too. This year we're going as Erik (the phantom) and Christine from Fantôme de l'opéra! Caramel apples, spiced cider, trick or treating (for the kiddies) and Halloween parties. Happy Halloween! 🎃
Great costumes Fleurbs and Mike, seems like Halloween is a real British event in the calendar these days, it never used to be. I had never celebrated Halloween or eaten pumpkin pie as a kid, I know the American love it, but I'm glad you are enjoying it. Can you make a Christmas cake next time please ;)
Love the video specially the sound effects Did Mike try the pumpkin pie again later? the pie looks really good Fleur did a great job I've never try that kind of pie before but I heard that you have to let a pie (any kind) cool before trying it
The Pumpkin Pie I'm used to is a little more dense and chilled rather than your warm, "egg custard" variety, shown here. I personally think Pumpkin Pie is good but I think Sweet Potato Pie is AMAZING! They are very similar in their cinnamon spiciness but Sweet Potato Pie has a milder, creamier flavor that is absolutely divine and not quite so pungent as pumpkin! Plus, it brings back many warm memories of my Grandmother's desserts for the holidays! It could just be a standard "Southern thing" from the USA... I'm not sure if other parts of the USA or other countries enjoy Sweet Potato Pie as a holiday staple, as does the South. Perhaps give it a try and do your own comparison. Either preference, you get yummy pies to eat! Woo Hoo! Bonus: Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of beta-carotene... so now we can have "healthy" pie! lol
Old story: used to hate pumpkin. My former mother-in-law is a great cook and baker. Anyway, she decided that her mission in life was to get me to eat pumpkin. So one day I was eating dinner and for dessert we were to have "caramel" pie. I ate it and it was delicious. I still to this day don't know what she did, but seriously: that pumpkin pie so tasted like caramel it was amazing... just the tiniest hint of pumpkin flavour. (Must get the recipe... )
You need to have 400g of pumpkin puree that has been strained of excess liquid already. You'll have a stronger taste that way and it won't be as similar to egg custard.
Just mentioning ... in its native range, we pronounce the nut as "pih-CAHN" because after all, would you really want to put something called a "pee can" in your actual MOUTH??

This looks so amazing!! I have a baking pumpkin just waiting to be made into this recipe!
It's a lovely pie but next time you might want to try to cut off the extra dough off the pie shell before baking.
Will have to give this a go. Always wondered why the US are so obsessed with pumpkin pie. Need to try some and see if it's nice.
The pie looks amazing.
Loved the video! Looks delicious
ohhhh that looks sooo yummi!!!
I'm going to try it :) It looks amazing!

the pie looks really good Fleur did a great job

Um...pumpkin pie is supposed to cool completely before being eaten. Warm pumpkin pie tastes completely different.

is trick or treating not a very big deal in the UK? Having never dressed up in the US is pretty much unheard of.
Mike didn't seem to like the pie that much :P
Pumpkin soup please
😄 I don't think Mike liked the pie
The pie looked "wet" inside to me - like it wasn't fully baked yet.
Warm pumpkin pie, um no.
2nd comment! loved the video xx
