It’s a no brainer, I just sold all my Sony lens and prepare to afford only 1 lens for my ZV-E1 as a hobbyist shooting video, this is the only one I’ll get. As I’m writing here now, I am still waiting for the release of this lens
Definitely picking one of these up as my travel/daylight lens. 24,35, and 50mm are my most used primes and I generally shoot F4-F8 for dof. I’ll probably take an 85 f1.4 with me to catch detail shots and low light when I’m walking around.
So I have the 24-70 gmii that I use more on my a7rv. I also have an a7cii and want a smaller lens for everyday and travel. This is perfect but now it’s 2.8 vs a wider range! I have no idea what’s more valuable in the long run!
Would you recommend this lens (Sony 24-50mm) or the Sigma 28-70mm/Tamron28-75mm lens for an all-in-one, compact lens? I know the Sony is a tiny bit smaller and shorter than the others and you get the extra Sony in-body features (focus breathing compensation, etc.), but you also lose 20ish extra mm of reach and it is a few hundred dollars more. Just wanting an extra opinion!
Almost got this, but Capture One does not support it.... Which is good, because it pushed me to the 20-70mm instead, which offers much more overall for what I shoot, fashion. Kudos to Sony for bringing us the small light gems like this.
Hi Sidney! I am limited due to various disabilities, so I had to choose the kit lens for telephoto work. Wish the max aperture was better than f4, but I also got a prime G lens at 24mm/ f2.8. When you face limitations, you have to work with what you’ve got.
I was looking for some kind of small and compact travel lens for the A7cII and was torn between this lens and the 20-70 f4. After comparing both lenses at a local camera store I decided to buy the 24-50. The reasons: size and weight! 20-70 sounds better but 24-50 will cover about 80 percent of my photography. So I decided on the smaller lens. And the first photos don’t disappoint. Seems to be a great lens!
Do you have any longterm updates? :) I'm currently struggling to choose between those 2 lenses. I can live with f4 and would prefer the bigger focal range, but it does seem too bulky/long (specially zoomed out) on such a tiny camera. But then I read that the difference between them is only 7mm and 48g in length/weight, which doesn't look like a big difference. Was the difference THAT noticeable for you in the store?
@axelkeuchel5728 thanks for your detailed answer! I'm very glad to hear that it served you well during your trip, because I'm also planning to go to Japan for 3 weeks in November :D While I do like to use longer focal lenses, I wouldn't mind taking my 85/1.8 lens with me (which I love). My main consideration are weight & size, because I know that I would use a smaller setup way more that a bulkier one. I might need to compare these 2 lenses in a store, but I'm heavily leaning towards the 24-50 now, so thanks for that :)
Tough choice between 20-70mm f4.0 ($1098) vs 24-50mm f2.8 ($1098). Sidney had a great "Perfect" review of that lens about a year ago. The lens that is losing ground is the excellent, yet large and heavy, 24-105 f4.0 ($1298). The two newer lenses are much lighter and have an aperture ring where the 20-105 does not. I have the 20-70, it's light and very nice lens to use with the new A7C bodies.
It is a tough choice indeed. I just bought my a7c2 last month and last week experienced epic failures with my 35mm prime lens on my hike in Sedona. Im debating which lens i should get since then 😂
@@visiblevoyageit's half the weight of the sigma. I love big sturdy long zooms etc but I don't like carrying them around all day especially if I'm just out having fun / travelling or even shooting street. This lens makes sense in that case
Love that his came out ! It’s going to live on my A7cii paired with my sigma 85mm 1.4. While my Tamron 20-40 will live on my ZVE1. I was getting tired of switching lenses back and forth 😂
Tamron 20-40mm 2.8 might be a better perfect lens for traveling covering anything of vlogging, family photo, landscape, etc shots. It could have been bigger and heavier but Sony 20-50mm 2.8 would have been sweet.
For travel way to heavy unless your a pro or wanna be . Far lighter kit these days , most only use for social media or computer viewing , even iPhone will print to A3
It is not perfect for travel its a mistake sony need to admit, the 20-70 now is the travel lens, you will come back home with more stories, Sony need to introduce a light/small 24-120 F2.8-5.6
What do you think of this tiny lens?????
Like it but can we get updated full frame G 12-24mm lens or get 10mm or 12mm prime 1.4 or 1.8 lens! Thanks awesome review!
Not tiny. Looks nice though. 20-70 G is probably the better travel lens for most.

24-50mm G and an 85mm f1.8 are all I need for traveling. Cover up to 127.5mm with APS-C mode on the A7RV.
Aslong as you don't travel to hot places as the G weather sealing isn't like a GM and fogs internally in humid conditions! Watch Tonys review.
@@SPDTDLgood to know. I'm traveling to Florida for the first time end of June early July. Would the 24-50 not be recommended?
Sad that they (Sony) make differences in humidity protection
@@Princeton_Jamesas a life long Floridian with a ton of camera gear. I assure you, you will be fine.
Great tip with the custom function button on the lens. Thanks man!
Not many people use it and I don't know why!!!

I am considering the 24-50 to go with the 70-200 F2.8 GMii. I don't think the gap in focal lengths matters when I can always go into APS-C to cover.
So I have the 24-70 gmii that I use more on my a7rv.

Hilarious the close shot then he drinks. 🤣 I might spit my coffee. 🤣
I'm glad the Tamron 20-40 came out first . Now I don't even have to consider this lens! Thanks for your review.
terrible focal length

Good demonstration of 24-50. F 2.8
Right now I am debating between the 24-50 and the 20-70 f4 for photography? Which one would you say has the better photos?

Great comparison video Sid when are you going to drop your update desk tour? I reallyyyyyy love those videos
SOOOOOOOOON
I actually love this focal length I travel with a Sony 40mm on my A7C this would be a great companion

I dont think its tough choice, thats two completely different purpose, catering two different photographers
Just buy sigma 24-70 f2.8... This 24-50 is pointless

Great video. Thank you 🙏 can’t wait for your a7C II video!
I'M WATCHING THIS NOW IN THE MATRIX, I MEAN APPLE VISION PRO. 🤣
🤣
Never interested this lens until I see its size comparison. Now i really want it.
What is the focus of the next round of testing for a new product in the factory? 50-150 f 2.8? 50-135 f2.8?
will it fit my sony fx 30 ( w a crop?)
Yeah of course! Just keep in mind the 1.5x crop factor
For someone with 24/35/50/85 primes, which of the zoom would be best as a general zoom lens mostly for photo?
28-70 f/2 GM lol
@duvalpenny100 then throw away all primes ;)
it is a pity I already bought a 24mm f2.8. this would really be the perfect lens for travelling
Any better than Tamaron 20-40 ?
I think the Tamron is very good. I'm notorious for GAS and I can see a reason for both.
Hey Sidney, just wanna know in terms of sharpness. Sigma 24-70 f2.8 still sharper compared to the 24-50 f2.8 right?
Yeah of course the 24-70mm is gonna be sharper!
Are you going to do a video on why you switched from A74 to A7CII? 😊
Filming that as we speak :)
It seems like a great match for the C bodies. All the other Sony zooms look too big on a C body imo.
Yeah I totally agree with you!!!
Dang bro i just got a 28-70 sigma C. Besides the focal length, sigma 28-70 vs this?
You can't even compare Signa to Sony G Lens.
Sigma has always been low end
@@Heli4213 nah, Sigma Art lenses are top notch. But the Sigma C lens will definitely be below a Sony G lens.

20-50 f/2.8 would be incredible as a travel lens. I'm assuming it's difficult to pull off since I've never seen that range before.
@@duvalpenny100 I also have Sony 20-70mm F4 but I still prefer Tamron 20-40mm for the less distortion at 20mm wide end.
@@TheTensecondz apparently Tamron filed a patent for a 20-50 f2.8 but released the 20-40 instead. Sounds like they tried to make it work.
Currently I have the 20-70 F4 G, should I also buy this len too?
Wow 🥰
It’s compact!!!
There are many perfect travel lenses for E mount.
Why?
Why not? I explain in the video haha
Just joking. :) Good vid. @@SidneyDiongzon

Try using the new Apple Vision Pro goggles to fly your drone in bright sunlight.
Should’ve been a 20-50 f2.8
tamron 20-40 is better tho
20-50mm f2.8 is probably better, only if existed
That’d be sick
Why? 24mm? Because it would be wide enough to capture your hair.
are you potato jet?
👍👍👍👍❤️

440 grams is very light for an f2.8 full frame zoom lens.
