Fresh air mode brings in air from the outside via the vents at the bottom of the windshield. Recirculation mode uses the air in the cabin. When starting your car up on a hot day turn on the A/C in fresh air mode first and roll the windows down and start driving. Then after the cabin is getting cool switch to recirculation mode and roll your windows up. Now you will be using and reusing the cool air in the cabin. Be careful not to constantly leave your HVAC in recirculation mode as mold can build up in your evaporator core and you'll start getting a musty smell inside your car. Occasionally switch to fresh air mode to prevent this from occurring.
The vents under windshield is the defrost vents I believe and usually recirculation air intake is under glove box. Good point on the musky smell. AlwAys turn off a.c. and recirculation so just vent as u are parking meaning last 30seconds or so helps like u said. U drive a lot times in a.c. vent mode then turn off a.c. compressor when accelerating to get better power and It gives me control so less icing up and it does the same thing as I force it to do anyway
I've got a custom one for my car from the the Toyota dealer. It's thicker than the usual cheap generic ones you find and it's meant to fit the exact dimensions and curves of your front glass. You also forgot mention that sunshades help prevent fading and cracking of your dash in addition to it keeping your steering wheel a little bit cooler. I go overboard and cover the steering wheel with a beach towel while I'm at work or whatever.
Tinting your windows is a great way to keep the inside of your car cool. They block out like 80% of heat. They also make tint that is clean for the windshield but still blocks heat and UV rays
It helps in Florida, but if you don't have a front sunshade, it doesn't matter. I have window shades and keep the windows cracked all day. My car is not hot at all when I get in it.
I usually turn it off while on the high way, I like having some fresh air come in. But when I get into my car I always roll all the windows down and turn the ac on full blast
Just understand "Recirculate" is NOT for heating conditions. Using it then will fog the windows and people in the back seat will be cold because the heat stays up front. And it will not heat your interior faster. Also bear in mind "Recirculate" stops fresh air coming in, so on a longer drive switch back to "Fresh" periodically to keep from getting drowsy.
I live in Fl. my 4runner has window shades too. I can leave them cracked a couple inches if I have to leave the car in the sun. Along with a windshield sunshade the car is not very hot when I get it in.
Where, inside the car itself, is the cabin air being taken in at? I know that outside air comes in up by the wipers, but I have no idea where inside cabin air is taken in when recirculation is turned on.
Usually under your glove box. My truck has a cabin air filter behind glove box. If I remove the box it's all right there and can see how the switch opens a tube that leads from inside directly to air filter. So by passenger feet
Okay so I know what it does, but there would have to be an air inlet inside the cabin for recirculation to work right? Where is that located? I'd like to put an odor bag in front of it.
I just bought rav4 xse, recurring button cabin air always turn off when i start engine. Can you help me? I don’t want that thing. I want it always On. Thank you!
If you can get a windshield cover that goes on the outside that would be even better. I have had my rear view mirror come unglued because it was so hot.
There is a button on my Rav 4 Hybrid that I cannot figure out that has to do with the AC to the back of the car. It feels odd like off is on and on is off. Can you explain this button?
@@King_Flush I wonder why. Do they use them as bathrooms or something. But where do they live. They poo where they sleep them dirty scumbag rats. As you know, Toyota is known for their legendary reliability which also includes the air condition. Even in a 15 year old Toyota's the A/C is still ice cold like when it was new
@@imports4lifetoyotalexus98 It doesn't have to be Fl, anywhere where it's very hot should have a windshield shade. I lived in Fl for 57 years never flooded once anywhere I've lived. Cars don't rust out here either. My 2001 4runner looks and runs like new. I would never buy a vehicle from a state where it snows.
@@da324 I dont know where you lived in FL but it has floods maybe not in your cities probably in other cities. I have 35% all around and my car still cool. Windshield tinting is illegal in all states. Unless you tinted it 50% on the windshield
@@imports4lifetoyotalexus98 I'm talking about a window shade for the front windshield, not window tint. Recirculating does not actually cool the air down. Be careful with how you explain things. It simply uses the air that already inside of your cabin, rather than outside ambient air
HEY NERD: Recirculate causes the idle speed to vary ~400rpm every 30-40 seconds, putting MORE wear on belts, tensioners, pulleys, your mom's girdle, etc. But of course, he wants us to BUY a new one from him for $23K, right? Does she still make your bed and clean the pecker tracks?
Dumbass, u can either have the air recirculating, or not recirculating. The ac button is just if u want to turn the ac compressor on and have cold air. Lmao Jesus christ
That is the worst advice. If you leave that recirc button on, you get no fresh air and eventually, as long as your windows are up, you will run out of oxygen. You should leave it pressed until the car cools down and then turn it off so you get fresh air. If you like to get dizzy then follow your advice
I don't think that would happen. I've driven more times than I can remember for 5-6 hrs without stopping in recirculation mode and didn't get drowsy. Maybe for semi drivers who have large tanks, but usually people get out to stretch every few hrs. Your advise is fine for the HWY, not the city, that is, unless you like smelling fumes.
Some people know what Air Recirculation Button does in a car. Some don't so much. How do you use it? Stay cool out there! Jeff
The most "dad" dad I've seen in a while
I’ve always used that button. It seems to help keep out any exhaust smells from other vehicles. I always use a sunshade, a must in the Florida heat.
Yeah, I also noticed it keeps smells out
Also is good to use it when in a traffic jam to avoid inhaling the exhaust of the other cars!

Generally good advice but for gosh sakes, don't park under a Spruce or Pine tree . The tar that drips from them will never come off your paint.

Thank you to your Mom! I have been wanting to make sure I was using the correct button for recurculation of air.
When you set on auto, it is cold out, and the car automatically starts to heat. But if the ac is clicked on, does that damage?

Where does the air inside intake?
So why doesn’t the same circulate air concept work for winter time with heat?
Windoes will fog up from keeping all the warm most air in the car. Won't happen as easily with fresh air intake on.
Won’t recirculating air cause more CO2 in the cabin?
Thanks for this!
Awesome job, Thanks on the button explanation!!! Just didn’t want to read the manual!!! 😜😜😜😜
Thanks Jeff for the information 👍🙂

Well lots of people tint their windows all around 35% on the car and it should keep you cool.
In Fl, you better add a windshield shade and window shades for the best results.

Birds will poo on the car if parked under the tree and leafs will fall on your car.
The sun will screw your paint up in Florida way more so than bird droppings or leaves that can be rinsed off.
Park under a tree? Are you serious? Can I call you to come remove the paint killing pitch off the car?
Not all trees drop resin. If so, some Goof Off from Home Depot will take it right off.
