i made a box with a few small grooves so i can cover my ps5 and protect it from dust. its a dust catcher and not only did you make a great cover but your also protecting it.

This is a sick idea and execution, but you're gonna thermal lock that thing once some of the newer games come out or if you have a lengthy session. The intake is at the top and front of the machine. If you pop the top plate off you'll have better luck with the thermals, but it's not optimal for the long run. Can't take the bottom plate off unfortunately because you have it laying horizontal and the stand uses the plate for an anchor.

Any reason other than being new to it that you left so much manual work after taking it out of the carving robot? Is that CAM tool only 2.5D? Can it not round over corners? Could you not have fully carved the sides other than a few little tabs?

Very nice. The way I prevent the problem you had with the initial cut starting at the wrong place, using Easel, is by setting a center point. While this isn't that intuitive in Easel, it is possible. So I make my design on the design surface and don't really care where it is positioned on the 'material'. Then when all looks good, I select the complete design and set the location to "0.0" making sure that the 'Center' is selected. This moves everything and Easel will only show the quarter of the design that falls on the 'material', but it will still work. Next I find the center of my material (which, if it is a rectangular piece of wood, is easy by drawing both diagonals. The center is where these intersect). Then I Set my start location to that center point and run the project. Hope that is clear and helps you or someone else in the future :-)
Hey Robert...thanks. That totally makes sense. I feel like in this case it was just pure stupidity on our part. We knew we had to start the cut basically on the front edge of the workpiece...we just didn't bother paying attention when we were doing it.
This leave one little problem... your child could take PS5 without you knowing until you sit down to play, move the cover and realise its gone. Because the cover is the perfect way to hide the disappearance! 😂😀
Did having the back and bottom open end providing enough ventilation after all being that the PS5 vents are mostly up in the front and top of the console?

First thing first, great video, I love the way you handle your machines, very professional. Now, have you thought about thermals? The ps5 already gets toasty enough sitting outside, imagine chocking it even 5% by putting it under this wooden ps1 cover, I know there is a big opening behind, but there is no fan to actually move away hot air as soon as it leaves the ps5, you will end up overheating / thermal throttle the ps5s performance although I don't know if that's a thing in ps5s.
Really nice... The thing that helped me was hanging the TV on the wall so I could have my gaming stuff under it... Maybe it's the symmetry that makes the difference... 😅
@@Foureyes.Furniture But it needs to intake air from the front and top. You've basically suffocated it by sticking in a box, even with the open back. There's nowhere for cool air to enter so it's just going to intake the hot air from the back, causing your console to heat up more and more until it fails early due to overheating.

From an engineer’s point of you, in would really have liked to see temperature data from the PS5 inside the box. I am not familiar with PS5 thermal management design, but I am have a hard time seeing how to achieve a good airflow with a boxed closed on 5 sides out of 6 without any special vortex creation device. I have a feeling this setup will considerably shorten the life of this console.
Everything I read pointed towards the only important thing being that it remained open in the back. So it's 100% open in the back. A few inches on either side and the front, and about an inch on top. So I don't think it'll be an issue. But if it breaks in 3 years...then I will have been wrong.

What we do where I work (avionics) we install a few thermocouples close to the main components and take samples during representative use and then compare the results with the recommended industry margins to achieve desired product life expectancy. In your case, you could just compare with and without the box. Thermocouples compatible with regular multi meters are cheap on Amazon.
