@@FRESHFROMTHERANGE makes sense as well and everyone I’ve talked to so far has given me really only generic info that was found online. My biggest issue was I moved back in from out of state so definitely needed info about out here.
I got California CCW. It took 6 months. I formerly had one in 1995 when I was a Deputy DA. It had three guns on it, a Paraordinance P14, an SP 101 and a Browning HiPower. I had it til I retired. I recently reapplied. It's more extensive now. Among other things, all the guns you carry must be registered with the State. I don't like that, but I do want to carry, so I did it. After instruction and range qualification, I got the permit for three guns. This was a glitch. My card had the SP 101, the HiPower and a Sig Sauer 1911 to replace my now-illegal P14. About a month after I got the card, I got a letter from DOJ that they were not certifying the SP101 and the HiPower, the reason being that they were registered at my old address and I had moved, so I have to re-register them for my new address I still carry the Sig legally and will reregister the other two. Still some glitches, but they' re more or less reasonable.
It certainly has changed. A subscriber comment recently asked somewhat about moving from another state with guns bought from another address. Same situation i explained and sent them the link from our DOJ. Its alot more and more problematic and less streamlined. Plus the on and off guns from the roster.
In Georgia you fill out a form, pay for the permit ($75), the court does a background check, if there are no issues you get the permit 2 weeks later in the mail.
Constitutional carry just passed the senate in Georgia a month ago, gotta pass the house but governor kemp has expressed support for signing it when it does if everything goes well Georgia could be the 23rd constitutional carry state by the end of this year
Pro Tip. keep a copy of your application. You will need to answer all the same questions again in 2 years with same answers. And Greg Sonnenberg is very diligent at getting test results in as Mick says
I guess S.B County is a bit different b.c I had to turn inn all my paper work including house bills and payments the day of my interview so now I am just waiting while the background process gets finalized , it just seems a bit long since it started the beginning on Sept, maybe I am been to anxious.
I got CCW in Fresno County in 2000. When you renew you should not have to pay as much in 2 years. As a new carrier I would recommend getting carry insurance of some kind. I personally recommend USCCA but is a personal choice. I moved away from California in 2019 and now reside in Idaho. I have an Idaho Enhanced permit for about 2 years along with an Oregon Non Resident permit. What ever you do stay safe. Enjoyed the video.
My understanding is that it's relatively easy to get a CCW in places like San Bernadino County (buddy of mine got one quick) but near impossible in LA County unless you are like a store owner or carry lots of money on you for your job.
Out here in San Bernardino County. Whole process took about 6 months. Even with an arrest in my background, it was a fairly quick process (especially for California). Great video!
*Mentioning the arrest is kind of a big thing.* *The Sheriffs know nobody is perfect, and would rather you just tell them the truth about past crime.* *They'll most likely issue you a permit anyway, but they'll find out if you lie through the life scan, and then you may be screwed, so don't lie.* *In OC it used to take about 3 months, and renewals about 1 or 2, but this last renewal took 5.* *Stay calm, and be polite, they may be testing your attitude. (Our Sheriffs are very cool, and very buisy)*
@@tropocal2343 exactly. There were a good handful in class class though that waited almost 2 years from the initial application. As long as your honest with them, you should be good (assuming you’re not a wife beater or anything to that nature)
Congrats on getting your CCW! I enjoyed the video, but I'm sort of confused about the mentioning of the DOJ location. From my understanding, CCW issuance is solely the responsibility of the county sheriff, and the DOJ only provides a standardized application form. Viewers might also want to hear about what is considered adequate good cause in your county.
They make us walk in for the photo, some county’s allow you to bring a photo with you like from a headshot for a passport. Also, for my county you don’t need “just cause” to get a CCW, I believe all it is here in VC is residency requirements.
Hey FFTR, thanks 4 really great and informative vid. I live in the Bay Area and here you literally have to make contributions to the Sheriff and all sorts of other convoluted and seems corrupt hoops. But at least I know it’s possible and to stick to the process or “hoops”. Thanks again.
No prob, someone in the comments recently asked about CCW in the Bay area. No issue is no joke, crazy to see all that is happening and so many states are not changing for criminal activity.
Put self defense if that’s what you want it for. When you have your interview with the investigator he will ask you again about it so that you may explain your initial reasoning
Started my journey to get my ccw on October 23, 2023 out of Solano county/Bay Area, right after I submitted my application it set me up with a appointment for January 16, 2024. I did my interview and got fingerprinted and they told me when the live scan comes back within 1-2 months that the sheriff will be in contact with me regarding my nexts steps. So now it’s a waiting game Update: 2-7-24 I got my email congratulating me on passing the application propane now I need to set up my 16hr range class
Hopefully you have some freedom week mags for those full size pistols random question any reason why you didn’t also qualify with a smaller “pocket rocket” ie Ruger LCP in case you ever need a real concealable pistol? I’m jus thinking the G22 is a big ass gun for CCW
Most definitely, was a big thought for me but the two handguns I had at the time were what I got. Didn’t buy them for the sole purpose for CCW. But it worked out for me carrying a full size. Comfortable with it. But I know a lot of people that aren’t comfortable carrying full size, the guys that took the class with me also. All had compacts as well as full-size so to each his own.
@@FRESHFROMTHERANGE Yeah, but a CCW permit doesn't mean Law Enforcement agencies won't put holes in you if some Karen calls the police on you because they see you with a weapon. Karen is everywhere here and Duty weapons with Lasers and Flashlight do print whether you are in denial about that fact or not. Unless you are living in an open carry State with Constitutional carry recognition, I strongly urge to be discrete, go small, and get rid of the attachments and paraphernalia light lights, red dots, lasers etc. Especially in this State. There are cities, towns and Counties that you are in grave danger if you are printing.they wont ask to show the card they will just drop you on the sidewalk or drill you in the car seat if they even smell a firearm. Be careful and staty safe my friend.
Last year I moved from CA to the free state of South Dakota. We are constitutional carry, no permit required for concealed or open carry, no gun registration, no red flag laws, and no magazine or ammo restrictions. If you get the enhanced ccw permit anyway you can carry in 38 states and inside of our state capital if you get permission from the highway patrol
I don't know of any permit that's good in 38 states. You must be holding a few non resident permits. Be careful some states only have reciprocity for resident permits.
South Dakota has three permits, regular, gold, and enhanced. The enhanced is the top one and is the one I’m getting. According to the USCCA website it’s valid in 38 states as long as you’re 21 or older. You have to be fingerprinted and given live fire training to qualify

July 13th they gave me an appointment for august 3rd, to pay the rest of my fees and to take a photo for my issued ccw card.
Great information. I too am in ventura County. Been wanting to get my ccw for a while and like you said the first time you kind of put a hold on it. I'm doing the same thing. I would like to get a lil more information on it if you don't mind.
Awesome Adrian, Goodluck. Mostly yes. Do’s and don’ts. Law, a written exam, a lot of discussion and proficiency test. Draw from the holster, get on target. Etc.
Omg! That is A LOT. In Virginia, I just took an online course, got a certificate. Submitted my application to the courts and a month later had my permit. All for a little under $100.
I turned in my Live Scan March 4th by email and the same day received a confirmation reply email that they received it. I was then contacted for more information April 21 by VCSO investigator. I received my approval letter to go forward with my class June 4th, the letter states there is 90 days to complete the class and get the qualification turned in.
@@phatboywya791 good cause depending on the county. In your case San Bernardino county. A relaxed “Good Cause” is needed just like my county. It’s not really 1:1 what to put on your application. It is not hard. The only time it can be an issue getting your permit in California is when you live in a non issue county. It is all county specific on whether the sheriff issues or not. I got mine in San Diego county with no issues. In San Diego county, you have to have good cause.
I get the whole "just cause" question from everyone cause just over the hill in my county, is LA county. Literally here in VC you just need "evidence of residence" finish all paperwork, live scan, class and you are good to go.
@@FRESHFROMTHERANGE definitely. I just want to put it out there to my fellow Veterans I have PTSD and I got my CCW dont let that hold you back from applying.
There’s a checklist of stuff you need to be able to qualify. County address, gun safety certificate which follows the rule of being able to legally purchase a firearm, handguns or handgun legal roster listed. So yes you need the gun safety certificate.
I have read that if you get a CCW from a (rural) county (with a smart sheriff) that your CCW is only valid in that county. So if you're driving from County 1 to County 2, you have to stop before you breach the county line and put your pistol in a lockbox in your trunk?! Please tell me this is not correct.
@@Lee-fi4vo no that is county issued. You are allowed to carry freely in the state California for this instance. Each county. Now there are prohibited places you can’t carry in but other than that. It is not blocked by county.
The class itself with its tips, facts, and overall safety insights as well as a brief written test. Into the actual handgun accuracy and holster draw to line up sights on target. Mostly yes, you have it right on the 5,7 and 15. From the people I have talked to some classes vary from others. Some go in depth which take days but I did an all in one day class to get it all out of the way.
This why I don't live in California. In Virginia I paid $50.00 for a CCW course and took my certificate to the police station where I paid $50.00 to have my NCIC Check and received my CCW card in the next 2 weeks.

San Juaquin county it's way easier then LA
Sure glad I saw your comment, being that I'm in SB County.
I just had my interview in San Bernardino yesterday. I’m hoping one of my tattoos doesn’t hinder me. It’s hidden when i wear a shirt.
Just had my interview , can’t wait to hear back from live scan
Out here in San Bernardino County. Whole process took about 6 months. Even with an arrest in my background, it was a fairly quick process (especially for California).
Great video!
Appreciate the input Dylan🙏🏼🙏🏼
It took me thirty minutes in GA lmaoooooo
@@TedCruzatemybaby *LOL, lucky you, no criminal politicians afraid you might shoot them.*

@@tropocal2343 exactly. There were a good handful in class class though that waited almost 2 years from the initial application. As long as your honest with them, you should be good (assuming you’re not a wife beater or anything to that nature)
You can also get a carry permit from the county you work in if your residence county won’t issue. And then, obviously, you can carry in every county.
But I’m told the work carry permit is only good for 90 days. You cannot get the 2 year unless it’s in the county you live.
It depends on which county you work in. I'm getting one in Sonoma County but I work in Marin County where it is virtually impossible to get one.
I think he means the VCSO CCW unit not the DOJ. You don’t communicate with the actual DOJ at all. VCS is the one that issues the permit.
That's what I figured. Just wanted to clarify so viewers don't get confused.
I'm sorry about your experience, have you considered moving to America?
I’m from Ventura county too, what reason did you give them? I heard you need it for a specific reason and not just self defense.

@@FRESHFROMTHERANGE welp guess it’s a good thing you’re used to it freedom week mags comin in clutch lmao
Welcome to the land of the free brother.
A handful of states like Colorado only recognize resident permits like you said, but I’m a resident, not military, so I’m good

@@Lee-fi4vo no that is county issued. You are allowed to carry freely in the state California for this instance. Each county. Now there are prohibited places you can’t carry in but other than that. It is not blocked by county.
