  • Today I'm sharing my thoughts on The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoevsky. You can't discuss Russian literature without mentioning the name Dostoevsky and for me, this novel ranks high within his corpus.
In this series, I discuss classical literary works providing my own analysis of the characters, plot, themes, and ideologies within the book. I also share historical context surrounding the novel and author.
Erratic love, sporadic seizures, and complex ideological worldviews. This novel is full of convoluted, lively characters and inevitably ends in tragic fashion like many works from Dostoevsky. I found myself enamored by the female characters that seem to drive the narrative forward while sending the various male pursuers into a frenzy. This story was a slow drip of caprice and excitement from start to finish.

Awesome Review! The Idiot was my first Dosteyevski novel and also one of the first classics I read. When Dosteyvsky talked about that execution scene it felt so vivid and real, I had too google if Dosteyvsky experienced something like this himself and thats how I found out. I really enjoyed this book and prins Myshkin! forsure also want to reread it and delve deeper into Dosteyvsky works and I still have demons to lookforward to for a first time read!

Love your review! I just finished the idiot and it is totally one of the best books I’ve ever read, but I don’t know anybody who’s also read Dostoevsky yet. Your video really feels like talking to a friend. You’ve got so much passion! It’s so inspiring to me to read even more :)

Glad I could be a companion and share in your excitement about the book! I'd recommend checking out White Nights and other short stories from Dostoevsky along with his popular novels

@@TheActiveMind1 thank you, I’ve already read white nights - I really loved it. Next one will be steppenwolf from Hesse and then crime and punishment. :)
I just found your channel, so if you don’t know Viktor Frankl yet I can highly recommend you his books „man’s search for meaning“ and „yes to life“. You might like them!

I just read Demons a few weeks ago. The Idiot is the last of Dostoyevsky's major works that I have to read. Glad to hear your thoughts on it. :)
