About the language: the English word 'Dutch' (Dutch people/language) and the German word 'Deutsch' (German people/language) do actually mean the same. Englisch originated from these Western-Germanic languages and there are still many similarities. To give you an example: the old germanic letter 't' became 'd' in Dutch and German, in English it became 'th'. 'Thing' in English is 'Ding' in Dutch. 'Length' in English is 'lengte' in Dutch.
