First rate Applegate! Loved it!
that was amazing. this is basically one of my favorite Broadway tunes (and one of my fav to perform), and you did it more than justice. loved your little "scene change" monologue. perfect job.
Mr. Spivak, this is going to help me so much with my audition for "Damn Yankees!". I hope to get the role of Mr. Applegate, and this has helped me already. I was confused as to what song I should sing, but now I've got one. Thank you, and good luck with everything in the future (like you need the luck)!
Damn this is awesome. Im playing AppleGate in like a month for my high school production and this is going to completely change the way ive been doing this song. This is awesome. Thanks
Ha, I LOVE this version. Seriously, I like this so much, It inspired me to do an audition with it. Spivak is talented, to say the least.
thanks Ron! well done!! Banter great! want to do this part forever now that im in my 50's! Been a performer all my life. Need to do this! BRAVOOO!!!
Sir, I absolutely love love this. You are talented and then some. The comedy... Ahhh.. I saw Jerry lewis perform it live. You have the character down. Oh, and you voice? well... magic!
Yes, I noticed that the verse about Dentists in the Encore was gone:
"It was absolutely killing, when dentists first were drilling, and the longer it too, the more I'd praise! Ah, that era of pain, long before Novocaine, Nya Ha Ha Ha! Those were the good old days!"
Marvelous! I really want to see this production. You did a great job!
This is my favorite performance.
I have the opportunity to play Applegate in our University production of this show. It is my first break in musical theater and I'm very nervous but excited about it. I love this character. Your performance is terrific! I can only hope to come close to that caliber of performance.
Thanks!
Learning this song on piano for an upcoming pantomime, this video has really helped and enjoyable to watch in the process :)
Great performance!
Thanks for posting this video!! my school is doing Damn Yankees and im Mr. Applegate and we got a lot of ideas from your video!! Thanks Mr. Spivak!!!!!!!!
Excellent Applegate!!!!
Our 8th grade class's opening night is tonight! I'm Smokey, but this song is a highlight!
what a freakin awesome actor im trying out 4 dis role nxt week
i can only hope to do half as as good as spivak
I've been back several times to see this. Your Applegate is the best I have seen, including Ray Walston. I'd love to do it myself, but I don't think I have the stamina anymore. Years ago I played Lazar Wolf, Benny Southstreet and Marcellus Washburn among others, but never got the chance to do Applegate. I'm getting too old an fat now. ::Sigh!::
Wow!! This guy is a real ENTERTAINER!!!! Epic.
Spendid performance!
The one who disliked was the one who called about the noise...
great job.
You did a wonderful job. I wish I could have seen the entire performance live. I hope someonday you can come to Columbus OH. Even in these hard times I'd scrape up the money to see you.
this song rocks
I just finished my third night of performing Damn yankees as Mr. Applegate. Your performance was a great deal of help when i was preparing for it. I would put a link to my video in this comment but youtube won't let me.
Just saw this ion B'way but you do as well as Sean Hayes did.
I was really hoping for the part of Applegate for our show of Damn Yankees this Spring, but when I saw he had a singing role, I was crushed. I also think that mikeymikee217 is in the same production as I am. Shh dont tell.
thank you very much mr. spivak, my audition went well
Yes, not to mention that, really, the lack of novocaine was pain that wasn't being deliberately inflicted, and the rest of the song has to do with deliberately evil acts.
I was in a production of DY up on Fairbanks, Alaska, put on by the Fairbanks Light Opera Theater (Originally it wsa the Fairbanks Light Opera Players, until they realised the acronym was "F.L.O.P.")
@ronspivak Hey Mr. Spivak we are doing this play for our highschool so any advice in how do the Mr. Applegate character or the play in general?
Well i didnt get Applegate, but I ended up getting a ball player.. Bryan? But almost immediatly the person who played as Sohovik dropped out, so the director just let me say the lines for both characters. Lines really arent a big thing for me, (its like a battle for all the underclassmen to get) but I just wanted to be on stage once more before i graduated.
im curious ron, is that lights on your cane or is that just red tape?
