  • Three divers first ever dive in to the air filled tunnel within the Bjurälven cave system. The tunnel was found in 2013 and visited by 9 divers before us. The air tunnel is aprox. 100 meters long and named "The Secret" (sv. Hemligheten) by the divers first entering.

      A well trained cave diver will never dive without a buddy, and each person will have at least 3 lights, so there's a lot of redundancy for things like that.

    • @speleokeir
      @speleokeir 6 лет назад +22

      Actually in Britain it's standard to dive solo because the passages tend to be tight and full of sediment so after one diver has been through visibility is often zero. They may dive with one or two other cave divers but they leave large gaps e.g. 10-30 mins between divers to allow the sediment to settle, so basically you're on your own.
      US cave divers are normally trained to dive in threes if they're in large passages with fantastic visibility like the blue holes in Florida or the Bahamas. The idea is that you can buddy breathe if someones equipment fails.
      As you say it's standard for cave divers to have at least two of every system (except their dry suit) in case of any problems. And similarly to dive on the "thirds rule". i.e. a 1/3 of your air on the way in, a 1/3 on the way out and a 1/3 for emergencies. If using scooters you need to increase that margin in case the scooter fails.

      That's Right after the spring flood that will flood the whole tunnel, new air from the outside will penetrate cracks in the ceiling. If the ceiling would be air tight, the water would stay in the tunnel because of the pressure. The water level is the same as at the entrance.

    The walls of the air filled tunnel indicates that water flows through them or has flowed though them at some point. Isn't it unsafe that the divers leave their gear behind and explore around when there could be a sudden surge in water level in these tunnels?

    by the way, If that an air-trapped-pocket cave tunnel, does that "room" have higher pressure than normal?
    you can try to figure out the pressure there because if it doesnt, it means that there is another secret passage from that tunnel which is connected to outer world, up there. The reason is "the room" is capable to equalize the pressure to atmospheric despite the fact that is trapped between two water tunnel. I am just curious

      I think the only way the water could have flooded in that pocket is if there was a crack formed reaching either another water source or opened up to the ground level. The pressure was preventing the cave to flood. Take a cup and turn it upside down and force it into the water, the only way water can fill up is by drilling a hole into the cup or turning the cup upside down. But yeah you're right, if an earthquake were to happen and caused a crack leading to the topside...they would have been in trouble.

    Stupendous video. Very, very well done. I've done some cave diving. But, never gone to that "edge" of a passage where you have to remove the tanks from your back (tight squeeze). Many do that sort of thing. But, the danger level rises as complications such as that are involved. I loved it that the loose soil/gravel on the floor of the cave did not cause an abundance of silt...clouding vision. The absence of that type of hindrance to visibility mitigates for safety of the dive.

      Angelo Santelli not sure if what these guys are saying rings true, but common training is to not breathe air in air pockets in overhead environments. Because you can't be sure of the content of the gas unless you have a analyzer, its best to stay breathing your tank air, however it's perfectly fine to take your reg out of your mouth and you can talk back and forth. Just don't breathe the trapped air, it could knock you out, and is a easy and stupid way to die.

    Thanks for filming, I don't know how you guys manage to fit your MASSIVE balls into that cave, there is no chance you'd ever see me in one of those, so thanks for filming it, what a beautiful place.
    Edit: btw sorry if this is dumb but why is the rock on the floor and ceiling like... all pokey. like not smooth/flat like normal? Looks trippy, I like it!

      humanimal Its erosion due to flowing water during the summer months, the cave is only full of air during the winter when the ground water us frozen. When all of the snow melts its flows through the cave slowly carving away creating the odd texture.

    When I was a child I always dreamed of being a cave diver, but it never happened, I loved the water and would swim in the sea early every morning even in the winter when I was a young adult, being a single mum 🍳 ended my dream, and now I'm too old with ARTERITUSE etc, maybe in the after life! I never got to achieve any of my goals or dreams, I was brought up in the system so I guess it wasn't meant to be! You guys are doing lucky to be able to do it and go were no human has ever gone before! The frontier!! Stay safe, lolx

      You missed the point - it's not a video game, this is a real place, it's not about the music its content, a place that is incredible beyond imagining, an exploration that is about as extreme as it can ever get. Understandably your life experience limits you, but when commenting on something like this try and understand the bigger picture.

    • @Caver461
      @Caver461 7 лет назад +1

      I was addressing GazetteFan4life, not you, but the point remains, the bigger picture is the content of the video, an incredible place beyond all imagining and most people watching this will be seeing that and be astounded by the exploration and pristine environment. As for hearing nature, you wont hear crickets chirping and frogs croaking under there- without water noises it is as silent as death.
