If Spotify is in major debt, then this makes sense. How could they be an artist friendly platform when they were compromised from the start? Capitalism is nasty. You were spot on with Direct-To-Consumer.

We need to go back to cds. As a consumer, I don't like having to "license" music because I can no longer "own it". And it can be removed without my knowledge even with me already paying for it. This is why I refuse to buy digital copies anymore. I'll stream it on RUclips or buy the physical copy if I can find it. Let's start back up physical albums .
You can still purchase downloads. Artists get their share of that. Especially if you buy from their website or Bandcamp. Releasing physical product is very expensive for indie artists. It doesn't make sense financially if you don't have a large audience.
@@waynebo248 I see your point. But im still in favor of physical over digital. Digital is to easy to manipulate or dupe the consumer and artist. Maybe the indi artist can look into offering a few physical copies ( especially when doing in person promotion). One of my team mates did that with her album. Our manager told me that they barely make money from streams.
@waynebo248 you can press 200 vinyl for $2000 dollars that's $10 a piece sell that record for $20 to $30 dollars 30 x 200 is $6000 even with a small fan base you can make good money on physical media save 10 copies and sell along the resellers later and make even more.

I am so glad you found this video Curtiss. I saw this not long ago and totally thought of you. I was hoping you would react to this because I think this is what us DIY artist are really competing against. I think we can compete but not online, only in the real world. Really rapping all those lyrics which means you have to practice. Really playing an instrument even. The music industry has been nothing but shady throughout its existence. While AI has its benefits for artists, I saw that it also has a weaponizing aspect to it. That’s true that it’s more concentrated. Spotify’s claim falls apart because whatever you say about music downloading, not everyone could or would do it, so there was still a consumer base for CDs and iTunes. Now everyone just pays Spotify.
I think one of the main problem is that people truly don’t understand how easy it is to make ai, you literally just need decent math, decent program skill and just a good book on how these ai things work. That easily you can use it to assist you in task. Everyone will be “talented” soon. Just like how everyone on social media are Einstein on every topic, because of social media. 🤔The "Fans love for the brand/ product" makes them similar to the NFL. I belive they leaked the information to see test how much the listeners care, before they offially role out all AI music/playlist. But like u said some of us has been working on alternatives ✋️
I have had original recordings of music from the 16th century struck on youtube and a channel deleted, because the robot thought, ya know, Bach, was a pop act who had copyrighted songs and recordings. I asked which version i was supposed to be ripping off, and they said that information was not available. So yeah, contract law does not exist, people are so delusional about it.
What is Ted talking about? He talks about Spotify using AI like it's been going on for a while. But the only AI out there capable of creating "music" with feasible vocals is Udio. And they entered the market around a month ago. What he says does not add up.
33:17 the fkd irony about this is, THEY LIKELY LISTEN TO MUSIC IN THE OFFICE. How can you acknowledge that music is the all-important Soundtrack of Our Lives and STILL reduce the artistry disrespectfully⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️
Laws aren't being passed because the rate of progression outweighs the understanding of said technology in terms of all the red-tape in the law making process. Using artificial numbers to boost hype has been done with music for a LONG LONG time, none of this is shocking. IMO. Let Sotify continue to dig themselves a hole; it's only a matter of time.....as well as....consumers of music are starting to be more aware of how the artists they love and are familiar with are being treated in terms of the music industry thanks to the power of the internet........I think music will be in a better place than ever once this transformation of AI, consumer awareness, artists ingenuity, and "big brother", runs its course much further..
The music industry is crumbling but there a beem of hope for us who actually care about the state that our music YES the business that we created in the disco era. We created it its all about figuring out that anyone could have control and that this game was always ours. Until colonization happened.
I noticed the AI on Spotify the other day, it's my DJ or something and I paused for a bit, It reminded me to start switching my playlist to Amazon. I didn't really like it.

Curtis King, if it's at all possible. Please interview...................ANI DIFRANCO.
I don’t understand people who let corporations make their playlists.
Bring back the music store or create an artist run, streaming platform that's affordable for customers
Sounds like Pirate Bay all over to me! 😂😂😂
This is kinda terrifying.. thank you for the info bro
I used to like Spotify. Now I don't even know... I just listen to music diversely
The music industry is crumbling but there a beem of hope for us who actually care about the state that our music YES the business that we created in the disco era. We created it its all about figuring out that anyone could have control and that this game was always ours. Until colonization happened.
It's most likely true, that's why I stopped uploading my songs on Spotify...
I noticed the AI on Spotify the other day, it's my DJ or something and I paused for a bit, It reminded me to start switching my playlist to Amazon. I didn't really like it.
