  • Using an infrared thermometer to check forge temperature in the blacksmith shop at ‪@browncountyforgeofficial‬. We can see without the temperature reading that it's still cherry red and moving towards red orange.
This temperature range won't give us enough time outside of the forge to hammer on any metal.
Ideally, we get the forge to over 2000° F and bright yellow orange before putting any steel inside.
Above that temperature we have a range of 15-45 seconds of forging time depending on the size/mass of the steel we're using.
    Forge brand: Majestic Forge
    Infrared thermometer: Vevor

This is one in a series of experiments we're doing in the blacksmith shop. Want to see us test something specific? Leave a comment. Examples would be: temperature during steel quenching, how hot an anvil gets while forging, how quickly steel cools.
