Nice video for an intro to forging! You were basically outside during the video so it's not a big deal but I have to say the part with the bolts made me think of an additional safety issue to mention: galvanized and other possible metals or coatings can cause hazardous fumes so beginners need to be cautious about what they chuck in their forges ;)
My Grandfather was born in 1874 we was boiler maker on the railroad, he latter left the railroad and started his on iron works. I have chisels that he made, and when I was a young child I watched him make another chisel for me. I still have that one too! Question when heating the lag bolt like you did was it a galvanized bolt? What does heating a galvanized bolt do any health issues to consider like welding galvanized metal?😁🛫
You should NEVER forge galvanized metal. The zinc fumes can dissolve your liver! IForge has a letter (I think it's there) from a fellow dying in his hospital bed from heating up several galvanized items in a closed shop and the white zinc fumes being inhaled.
There was a movie scene I didn't understand in Dragonslayer. Where Galen says to the Blacksmith, "Blacksmith have you ever Forged a Weapon" and then the next scene is them pulling the The Dragonslayer Spear out of a waterfall. Rust ?
I've just started, so kinda the same boat. Do you have equipment and don't know what to do with it? Or do you need some advice on where to get cost effective starter gear?
Just visited manitoulin island and stumbled upon your articles of homesteading and your neighbor ivan bailey, did you ever get a book published? I would love to buy one. I assume you have heard of wingfield written by dan needles if not check him out. Anyways let me know if you ever got it published
he made it. most people just make their forges as it isn't hard. i just made mine with an old bbq grill with an air pump for a blow up matress. used a fence pole and rigged the air pump on it and drilled out a hole in the grill for the pipe and drop hot charcoal in it and turn the air on and voila
Would you know how to sharpin edges cut I'm wanting to make a sword and I don't know how to sharpin the edges EDIT what do I do if I don't have a fordge EDIT 2 would a blow torch or propane flamethrower work
The only thing you showed me is how you spend money because you got a lot of it and you're just showing off you did not talk anything about forging only
I love the sound of metal getting hammered. Such a manly sound.
Me hammerng your wife sounds manlier... 🤪😋
Gay

i would say if your concerned about toxic fumes etc , wear a mask while your working gal bolts or other metals. No brainer really.
just the possibilty of inhaling toxic fumes, you could just clean the piece with vinegar if youre worried

Hello,
I just came across this video and your channel. Could you share a link as to where you got those tongs?
Thank you
I may learn how to do this after I learn how to weld great.
This is so cool

And with this, i shall make a staff spear. WAKANDA FOREVAA
Perfect to clean cut that doesn't cause cancer to plants or crops for the blades cutting crops, pruning shears for tree's and golf course trimmers.
i wanna learn forging so bad, but i don't know where to start..

If you could forge steel in a Zero-gravity Ceramic tool, I betcha have some really good Steel
As you cool it in water might it brake when struck? Or do you get the same flexability as if u did it in oil?
How many hours at that temperature does a tank of propane last?
it is called piening it
I love the propane forge, what is the name brand of that one?
he made it. most people just make their forges as it isn't hard. i just made mine with an old bbq grill with an air pump for a blow up matress. used a fence pole and rigged the air pump on it and drilled out a hole in the grill for the pipe and drop hot charcoal in it and turn the air on and voila
Would you use propane or coal for beginners
I use charcoal burns hotter and slower
Can i fix the steel if i forge the steel too thin?
If it can be fix then how can i do that?
Can you answer me?

yes a propane torch works great
But how would you melt the steel and mold it into a shape without damaging what your using to heat it up to melting point with ?
Crucible
Et u can cook a pizza in there too😊
I can't believe you don't wear gloves.
Those wrist are thick
im 11 and that anvil is almost 2x my wieght
instructions unclear, herobrine is in my game
The only thing you showed me is how you spend money because you got a lot of it and you're just showing off you did not talk anything about forging only
Can you shut up and mind your own business
Hmm, not as informative as I would have liked at all to be honest. I find your title a bit misleading.
Why aren't you wearing gloves?
Forgery is a crime
