Nice video for an intro to forging! You were basically outside during the video so it's not a big deal but I have to say the part with the bolts made me think of an additional safety issue to mention: galvanized and other possible metals or coatings can cause hazardous fumes so beginners need to be cautious about what they chuck in their forges ;)

My Grandfather was born in 1874 we was boiler maker on the railroad, he latter left the railroad and started his on iron works. I have chisels that he made, and when I was a young child I watched him make another chisel for me. I still have that one too!
Question when heating the lag bolt like you did was it a galvanized bolt? What does heating a galvanized bolt do any health issues to consider like welding galvanized metal?😁🛫

i would say if your concerned about toxic fumes etc , wear a mask while your working gal bolts or other metals. No brainer really.

just the possibilty of inhaling toxic fumes, you could just clean the piece with vinegar if youre worried

You should NEVER forge galvanized metal. The zinc fumes can dissolve your liver! IForge has a letter (I think it's there) from a fellow dying in his hospital bed from heating up several galvanized items in a closed shop and the white zinc fumes being inhaled.

There was a movie scene I didn't understand in Dragonslayer. Where Galen says to the Blacksmith, "Blacksmith have you ever Forged a Weapon" and then the next scene is them pulling the The Dragonslayer Spear out of a waterfall. Rust ?

he made it. most people just make their forges as it isn't hard. i just made mine with an old bbq grill with an air pump for a blow up matress. used a fence pole and rigged the air pump on it and drilled out a hole in the grill for the pipe and drop hot charcoal in it and turn the air on and voila
