As a huge Clapton fan, this is really good! Especially considering Sheeran’s forte is singer/songwriter pop, his voice fits surprisingly well. Amazing cover!

Really, really nice to see Ed performing with a live band again. While I love seeing him with the loop pedal, some of the songs start to feel redundant and make it easy to forget how good he can sound with a few more instruments behind him. Also very nice seeing him return to the rock/blues sound that influenced many songs on his older albums. Divide was really lacking in the darker, bluesy songs like Make It Rain, The Man, Don't etc

Andrew Power sorry my mind was a bit weird and I thought you were thinking that he quit playing or something which confused but i get what you mean. I suppose he wanted to focus more on his songwriting and voice once he got as good as he is at guitar. He has definitely improved over the years, if you hear how much he stumbled and all at Shepherd’s Bush and then hear him play now he has definitely gotten better, but I guess he didn’t think he needed to go and overtake Clapton or any of the legends

The Man Called Toyan Ed performed Layla when he was 11 yrs old at some charity event. Ed saw Eric.C performing at the Queens Jubilee, which inspired him to want to learn play the guitar, plus Ed was already playing other musical instruments, so he could have known some chords but fully learnt Layla as his first proper song.

Lol why? I do like the original better but this is a cover, it's not meant to be better, it's meant to be different. And as far as covering songs goes this is ok, not bad at all (but nowhere near the original).
I’m all for decent covers, but ed Sheeran is seriously misjudged. I’m pretty sure he’s a nice guy and that. But I don’t see any great talent in him at all. As a performer he is quite bland and doesn’t exhibit any particular great skill. And is his songwriting is abysmal. Don’t get me wrong, if I turned up to a jam night at my local pub, and ed was covering this, I’d think it would be a good effort and give an applause. But for god sake. On national television in New Years. Don’t know why anyone would wanna see that.

i disagree... his music is bland, boring, soulless and easy... and insulting to the singer songwriter category.. which we had people like bob dylan, neil young and now mayer.. john mayer will go down as one of the greatest he is a far superior song writer. examples: belief, gravity, stop this train.. etc give these songs a listen. i could go one for a long time. Mayer is also one of the best guitarists in the world right now. Clapton himself has called him a master guitar player. ed is a passing artist that will soon fade like most pop stars their music lacks the timelessness of music made by people like Mayer or for example ray Charles, Sam cook, led zeppelin, Clapton, deep purple, Hendrix etc.. i urge you to explore and listen to much more music. pick up an instrument if you haven't already.. its really one of the coolest and fun things in life.
