    An exemplary and highly commendable interaction; very very informative; gives a very rare insight into the nuisances and finer aspects of naval aviation and related areas. Shiv Aroor is a fantastic anchor; his short pertinent questions and the mature silence is so sensible so as to facilitate total concentration of audience on to what Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha ji so eloquently, so qualitatively and, more importantly, so humbly shared despite being one of the top-notch brilliant & highly experienced senior pilots / naval aviator in the World! In fact after intently listening, professionals like him are not just Naval Aviators or Commanders but are demi-Gods!! Thank you so very much to Shiv Aroor ji and a million thanks to Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha ji. Its not for nothing that our defence forces are THE best in the World. Jai Jawan, Jai Hind.

    The US Marine Corps still uses the AV-8B+ Harrier II, still old but a little bit newer generation than the Sea Harrier that was used by India until a few years ago. I wonder if India would use them now if the US gifted them to India? They still have the tricky handling of the Sea Harrier but are a bit more capable overall. Given that India has urgent needs for more aircraft of various types, bringing back an aircraft type with these unusual capabilities to take off and land in a short distance might be useful. There are probably still enough people around with Sea Harrier experience that the AV-8B+ could be incorporated in a short time. Assuming they are received for free, would they be worth the cost in training and maintenance to operate them in India, both on land and at sea? I think perhaps yes. 50 or so AV-8B+ Harrier II would have significant capability and have enough life left in them and spares available for another 10-15 years. This could potentially partially bridge the gaps in numbers while waiting on newer aircraft for the Navy and Air Force.

    No question altitude is a savior .I suspect that the glide ratio of most trainer aircraft are good, perhaps L/D ratio of about twenty to one, namely for every twenty ft. of run you will fall one ft .At a height of 16000 ft, he should have been able to glide for about 60 miles before hitting the ground. Altitude is very forgiving of errors ,including stalls ,spins ,engine flame outs and restarts .When your engine flames out, any thrust to wt. ratio advantage is out the door.

    Spatial disorientation is a common cause of many crashes in inclement weather ,and/or poor visibility especially on VFR when the pilot does not know up from down. Great idea to climb fast out of it.

    36:15 what is that speed ?
    420 or 800?

  • @ronlal652
    @ronlal652 3 года назад +1

    The T/W ,namely, thrust to wt. ratio on the Mig 29 is 1with full fuel, and is ideal to have this > or = 1.Not easy to stall this aircraft, must have had engine failure or problems with his fly by wire controls If you are not found in the first 36 hours ,your rescuable chances diminishes greatly with time, as the two are inversely related .He may have suffered spinal injuries from this very low level ejection ,and was unable to free himself from his chute ,and was pulled under. There is also that ever present danger of being consumed by Leopard sharks ,a common predator in the Arabian sea.I hope and pray that he is found dead or alive for the sake of his family ,and navy. Very tragic to loose such a good human being. Lastly having ejected at 1700 hrs. close to dusk ,and ensuing night makes it even more challenging to be found.

    Respected Vice Admiral Sir. Why we cannot trace our pilot? Don't we have any beacons and tracking devices with our pilots? Cannot our pilots communicate while they ejected? Won't the life jacket keep him afloat taking into various factors like parachute isn't separated and filled with water etc and the beacon transmit automatically, gps - radio distress signals for only our ships to home on (instead of enemies)? If not then why all these years we haven't got these? Why we haven't ever thought of these? It appears that none of us are serious about rescue. ..........

It's then we'll arrive at the best of the best SAR operations. That's is the key.

    • @jamesfallon9758
      @jamesfallon9758 3 года назад +2

      Of course your points are valid. But as mentioned in the video as well, that despite having excellent SAR platforms, it's really really hard to find wreckage or drowned pilot.
      If you read about the Japanese F-35 accident, i think 7-8 F-35 were on the CAP mission. All of a sudden One F-35 goes down & drowned in ocean. No one knows what happened. Despite F-35's excellent on board measures to get found when drowned, huge SAR missions by Japan & USA, nothing found, not a single wreckage nor pilot.
      Note: don't take this as a counter argument.
      I'm just saying that, these things happen.
      Edit: let's hope, we get to a point in the future where we make this huge ocean a little smaller, where we will be able to detect these drowned things quickly & effectively.

      @Nishant Gupta sure that's why they need to look at the alternatives I think going for Rafale was a mistake the first place. IAF needs to work on Tejas.
      Mostly it boils down to poor leadership not spoting the problem of their aging fleet of Migs and Jaguars tho Tejas project was started with this purpose but it faced delays after delays while the fleet wasnt getting younger. Afterwards not accessing the damage done and not replacing the planes like Mig 21 with a stop gap option like more Su 30s did more harm.
      On the other side PAF was smart with JF.
