Seeing the tv wheeled in at school then being scared to death at this, great days 🤣
Absolutely spot on comment this 👌😂
ALL BY DESIGN... now they wheel out a virus & vaccine and the trauma continues...yay!
Same no wonder turned out way I have ,this, saville, glitter, etc
this scared me shitless lol
Too right! Scarred for life!🤣
For nearly half a century I thought i'd dreamt this show.
Same!!! And I came across it today. Couldn’t be happier.
same
now have it on DVD so know I didn't....still creepy as hell
Made me ill for most of the 80s tbh
My brain had blanked it out too, now here it is again, back to haunt our dreams
That's so interesting how that happens. Not this particular show, but I've had things I thought I'd dreamt as a kid, come to find out,it was an actual show or movie.
It's amazing how many british tv shows and movies were made in quarries. It could be a whole genre to itself.
Ha ha you know it!!
stig of the dump comes to mind lol
Alicethebookworm rimming
Blake's 7 springs to mind... :-)
Blakes 7, Dr Who ...it was all the same quarry, I think.
He's like a cross between Freddie Kruger and Jimmy Saville.
😂
That reminds me, have you seen Freddy Got Fingered?
I’m 57 now and still have the nightmare of the thin man every now and then.We had to watch this at school.Absolutely terrifying at the time
It made me a gibbering wreck for most of my childhood. There should be a retrospective inquiry.
😁😁
He came towards us , he was pale thin and full of bling and some sort of alien artifiacts. He called them fix it badges and he made a strange alien like calling that said " how's about this then kids! ". We called him "The thin man who also ran for charity "
He he. Nice.
😄😄😄
What happened next?
@@markyj23 He ‘fixed it’ for them.
@@markyj23 He pushed his digits into their fudge pipes.
I was so traumatised as a child having to watch this, l am not even sure l can watch this clip now. This gave me nightmares!!!
me to bro I was trying to remember what this was called now I found it . had a really bad flashback lol
I remember when I was 8-9 years old at school, our class was put in a dark room and made to watch this. It shit the life out of me. Re-watching it back now makes me think....why was this creepy shit being shown to 8-9 year olds?
This shit me up when i had to watch it at school.
Yep this damaged me. I was so scared of this bloke at the time 😎
@@sanchezgotsumkids I was the same, I was terrified as our class watched it, I think our whole generation could have a lot of traumatised adults now lol
Sitting in a classroom in an East London school back in the mid 80’s watching this. We all said how much we’d kick his head in.
Gotta laugh fukin cockneys
@@tigertruckerman yes you have. I hope they're all well?
I'm nearly 42 and I remember being freaked out by this at school in the mid 80's!,even now watching it back it still scares me a bit!!,Lol,very weird educational shows in the 80's were around,
I'm 30 and I had to watch this in school😂
I hated it
I can remember the teachers making us watch this in primary school aged about 5. Absolutely shitting ourselves, but even at that age remembering not wanting to say didn't want to watch it. Can believe we were allowed to watch it looking back now. Many a sleepless night due to this programme.
Yes the 70s version was re-edited/reworked to make it less scary for the 80s release which I detailed in another comment🙂
@@richardedwards7527 I've got he 80's release on DVD...I remember it being 'different'....'scarier' as a kid (would have been '76 or '77 when I was made to endure it...
would like to see the original version but can't find a copy....likely only went to schools so now in landfill...
I'm going on 52 and remember this from when I was about 7 years old (1973-ish). I LOVED it! It didn't scare me like it seems to have scared the 1980s kids who have commented here. Nowadays I love horror films though. I had blonde hair (all gone now!) and a similar haircut to the alien boy. I used to like to think that I was a weird space alien too ...it feels like it still, sometimes!
The remake stiffened the fences considerably shall we say
John woodnutt played The Thin Man. He died in 2006, shame
The Thin Man was terrifying, but credit should no doubt also go to Paddy Kingsland, who composed the music. There's something really chilling about it.
Yes. He did some really good "Dr. Who" soundtracks, too, some of the best from the 80s, and the incidental music for "Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy" I loved Paddy Kingsland's work. I still do.
He also did the music for the changes tv series from 1975 too.
All together now, everyone, and prepare to shed a tear:
'Out there in space,
shall we find friends?
Is there a place
where the Universe ends?
When shall we find it?
Never, never;
space goes on forever.'
It was a haunting song, emotive.
scary fucking shit, i was 5 years old when i saw this in school. 80's education fucked up lol.
+mayorip ME TOO !!!
Same with the opening credits of Picture Box. It's like they were intentionally trying to give us nightmares. I almost had an even bigger fright just then, not having seen this one for years: A tall, weird, creepy looking man with long white hair, wearing a Flasher's Mac and chasing small children - I thought it was a Jimmy savile biopic at first.
^_^
There were some seriously odd programs for kids in the 70's and 80's. Kinda kids horror shows.
LOL. I remember the TV being wheeled out into assembly for this. Still you must admit it had an impact, if only post traumatic stress disorder.
When I was very young, this programme traumatised me. The Thin Man was the bogeyman of my childhood, and thoughts of it still unnerve me.
Me too!!!
Yep. It pretty much ruined my life for about two years. Couldn't sleep alone.
And I thought I was the only one traumatised by this as a kid
I used to watch this as a kid and the Thinman gave me nightmares well into my adulthood, FOR YEARS I TELL YOU!
Lol can you imagine if children watched this now, they'd need therapy 😂
im 39 now and still freaking out lol
35 years on, welcome back nightmares !
+TrapperMilan Them close ups.
TrapperMilan same!
Found it after all these years. Glad to see I'm in good company in being scarred for life by my primary school TV educational films!
The programme responsible for a generation of bed-wetters. Absolutely terrifying
brilliant
😂
I was one of them lmao!
This really scared me aswell.
@Floyd1504 we didn't have incel man bitches either then
Jesus effing Christ! Why did I decide to look this up? As a 32 year old woman, this still scares me as much as it did as a kid, watching it in junior school! What were the teachers thinking? Ah the nostalgia
Exactly 💯
Scared the crap out of me. This scene stayed with me for a long time. Even freaks me out as an adult!
me to lol
Enough to give you nightmares 45 years on
"Now spell gag, rope, and growing up alone!" "I'm so scared!" "SPELL IT!"
This is gold. Well done sir
Love this bit 😂 trying to find the clip of the interactive house Alexander for a project
as a kid in the 70s I 💩 my pants at the scary thin man 🙄 even watching him now reminds me how I felt back then 😆
I can remember pushing the TV down the halls at school then watching this with my leg's crossed starring up at the old brown sided telly.
Remember this in school in the 80z watched it on the tv 📺 on wheels those were the days my friend we thought they never end happier times before all these computer fones that take over your kids lives. We knew how to have fun just being out all day n nite until dark
I call them our 'Worzel Gummidge Days' Hay, sunshine, fun and innocence, most of all, happiness. What happened?!
Those were the days we thought they’d never end
Remember watching this aged about 6 and going cold - it's still quite chilling now. Oh and here's a fact - the actress in that scene also appeared (among many other things) in the Heineken 'Water in Majorca' advert.
Yes she's quite a star, the boy was so traumatized he turned into a serial killer
We all seemed to watch this AT SCHOOL... Wordy used to pop up in between... probably to ease the terror for us kids. Didn't work as we're all still haunted by it. Imagine playing similar in schools nowadays - there'd be an outcry and teachers (and the BBC) would get 'cancelled'! (Still loved it and it's stuck in our heads!)
I only ever saw the first episode of this, one day when I was off school ill as we never got to watch telly in school. It's crazy how much of an obvious impact it had on me, still remembering it all these years later!
Just when I was trying to get over the trauma that is the Picture Box theme tune, my teacher started a weekly viewing of this freaky shit. The Thin Man haunted me for years. I'm 40 and still waiting for the 80's TV PTSD to ease off. I know Fenella disappears into the floor everytime I turn around. WTF was Evil Edna?
Lol can't believe I've found this, would like to see more, this and chokys children freakt me out as a young boy lol
I had to watch this in Primary School. I was about 7 or 8 years old. I was traumatised by this and I still don't like watching it now! It was so scary to watch as a young child :( I thought the creepy man was going to get me.
me to lol
Vogue Girl same as that! 👽
Snap....ME TOO...
Yup me as well
Vogue Girl Me too.
I’ve been searching for a clip of it for years.
Genuinely unnerving.
Finally found it after forgetting its name, I'm almost 45 now and this used to give me the creeps as a kid!
They made us watch this at school so it would act as a deterrent from speaking to strangers we didn't know back in the 70s/ early to mid 80s. I think that was the aim, particularly with so many real life murderers being around back then.
I`m going on 44 years old, and for some reason this "programme' popped in to my head 36 years after watching it....god bless you tube for allowing me to look it up.I would have much preferred the Flumps, Pob, Chorlton & the Wheelies, the Wombles,, or anything else to enter my brain at 10 pm on a Saturday night, but this insane, warped and unremarkable piece of TV entered my head, and I felt compelled to look it up.Suffice to say its as bad as it was 36 years ago..... hopefully I will forget about it for another 36 years.
it is awesome
+dibbler08 The Theme tune to the Wombles still rocks my world!
I am also 44 years old and I also had a head pop moment I eventually found this by trial and error, really surprised that the amount of comments saying that they were and still are traumatised by this program, really?, I found it at the time 9 years old ace.
dibbler08 totally the same for me :)
Finally found it. This used to scare the crap out of me, so much that I used to sit out of the class when it came on!!!
This still scares me now
me to im 39 now the flashbacks
+BRIAN FRANCIS SPARROW 39 and still don't know the difference between "to" and "too". I find that sad. Sadder than the thin man.
***** ha ha a grammar nazi what a fucking geek lol
BRIAN FRANCIS SPARROW Yep, Now I know what type of 39 year old you are.
BRIAN FRANCIS SPARROW I dont have to get a life mate. ived lived it already. i could die tomorrow and be a happy man. I can sit around for hours everyday and troll or comment and do whatever the fuck I like. Thats the advantage of being a laid back aussie. And Im anything but "little"
Im twenty-three now, I have been trying to find this since i was in Year 2. I remember watching this on the wheelie tv
Jimmy savil
lol
Dear Jim.
Please would you fix it for me to have you not chasing me round a deserted gravel pit in Wales.
Yours sincerely,
Peep Peep
@@stephenmcconnell1000 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I loved watching this as a child. I hope it's back on tv. It used to scare the shit out of me and then i would laugh at that funny looking alien man and boy.
Id forgotten all about this show. Scared the crap out of me. Still kinda does haha
Why am I even looking at this. It scared me when I was six.
"I wont sleep tonight" ..written by me, a 45 Yr old.🤣 I shit myself when I saw this as a kid
Old geeza in a flasher mac chasing kids in a secluded area... they got off lightly.
This was first shown around 1971/2 and then repeated many times on the daytime schools programme 'Look and Read'.
He looks like Jimmy Saville and we’re not surprised it was a BBC drama 😟
Sends shivers down my spine to this day
Utterly scared the crap out of me for years after seeing as a child. Cathartic to watch this again!
if you wonder why we are fu@ked up it's because we had to watch this in school.
Still gets me every time that kid stumbles……😅 It’s just madness on so many levels. Was there a single school pupil in the UK who didn’t see this. We saw it in the NE of Scotland. What was the educational value of this which made it compulsory lol.
It was the close-ups (combined with the scary music) that made us shit our pants :(
The Thin Man was the one who looked like he'd shit his pants, judging by the way he walked !
I watched this as a kid that music scared the shit out of me even just watching this gave me a chill and a flashback of being so scared lol
It would have been around 1983 when I was 6 and at infact school, the teacher would wheel out this big TV and put Look and Read on once a week. I remember this clip, and a scene where a shadow was cast as someone was walking slowly up a staircase, thinking it was the Thin Man. I was traumatised watching it; should never have been subjected to it at that age, it had nothing to do with learning!
Mark Heritage oh god yeah those hideous huge school tellies that were on wheels and had lockable doors on the front ... weird 🙅🏽♂️
Our family moved from the centre of town to the edge of town next to a forest (which you had to drive between two halves of to get home) in 1981... just as our teacher started showing us this... Needless to say it totally f**cked me up as it seems to have done to all who watched it... the Thin Man was my stuff of nightmares... I used to try to persuade my mother to drive to town so we could go to the supermarket and be surrounded by lights and people rather than the darkness of our new house... At the age of 7 I thought the Thin Man was in that forest and was coming for me... In 2014 I bought the BFI DVD for my young nieces who didn't seem to bat an eyelid about him.. how times change!
If you remember watching this at school you're really, really old 😂
Originally shown in the 70s. I watched this before I left primary school which was 1975. But yeah man, this was scary shit.
It's still a bit scary but we grew up with this in fact this would creep me out than today's horror movies
America had Arizona/California/Texas for backdrops, England had limestone quarries 😂
I was 7 when I first saw this in primary school. I shit myself with this scene!
"I am trying to fit into your culture as best as possible by wearing a Macintosh coat and creeping about quarries..."
How come kids are more screwed up today, yet I had to endure this terrifying shit at junior school in the 80s and I’m fine 🤔
I remember watching this in school as a kid. The boy from space and also the fairground.
Dark Towers and wordy also.
Jeeez for years after seeing the Thin Man, I was too terrified to go to the toilet in the night in case he was in the bathroom
The thin man, god he freaked me out!!!
Me too!
I left school in 1980 (at 16) - This was something I saw when I was just 7 years old (1971)
This man actually inspired the villain from Phantasm.
If this is the programme I'm thinking of it scared me as a child.
Apparently this was considered a good thing to show to 6 and 7 year olds in Infant School. Scared most of us shitless ffs!
No wonder I couldn't sleep as a kid after watching this. In still 5hit scared now!!!
I actually loved it I couldent wait to see what happens next
we watched boy from from space at school, and it really scared me,just watched clip and it still has a real spookiness to it!!
I think this was the original thin man before little nightmares 2 Thin Man
This freaked me out at school!!!
It’s the kind of show you’d watch at your friend’s house through the winter and then realise you had to walk home in the dark…. That and Chocky
I remember faking illness so that I could stay home from school and watch this, having first watched it in earlier years in class. I remember the 'big' black and white school TV, that was on a tall trolley, that used to get wheeled into the class room! It never freaked me out at all, I just loved the story.
This scared the crap out of me when I was young it was on Words and Pictures back in the early seventies, stuff of bloody nightmares.
Look And Read 😜
70's british television will never be equaled.
Strange man, in mac coming towards us.
Is it only now I see what the BBC was highlighting
The Thin Man looks like what would happen if somebody put a load of Wood glue on Ed Bishop.
Bought it today......Great stuff!
Yes, The Thin Man still scares me too!
love to watch the whole thing takes me back when i was kid watching it at school love to see the whole thing again if anyone got it please put it up thanku
Top three scary things from my childhood; 3). This. 2). The Tall Knight of Dark Towers. 1). The Robot Woman from Superman III.
Still have nightmares of the thin man.im 54 years old now and he still pops up in my dreams 😳
Look and read classic made us watch all of them in first school
Paddy kingsland’s music is absolutely terrifying and spooky aswell.
I remember this... Look and read... We watched it at school...
Flash Backs.... it's true you never forget a trauma memory.... never! Nonce Ahhoooy!
Never heard of this show until today in 2019
They done a great job sharing the crap out of us kids in the 70s with stuff like this. Always in quarries too. The cyber men from tom bakers dr who springs to mind lol
Great Love this TV series as kid :-)
nightmares for years because of this....
I remember watching this at junior school. Utterly terrifying. They knew how to scar fragile minds in the 80s
Great Scott 😂😂
I had nightmares about him for years
This scared the life out of me at school. Oh god!!!
Was always weird this was made for kids and was on BBC kids TV back in the early 80s yet it was incredible creepy.
1980 ? i watched this in school about 1973/4/5 im not exactly sure but i was in mid primary class
First thing that got me into Sci - Fi. :)
I watched this is the academic year 1971/72. By the look of the comments it got repeated a lot in subsequent years. It was the dramatic component of the schools TV programme ‘Look and Read’ - we were all taken to a special room which had a ... television 😆. Those TV rooms still existed when I started teaching in 1987! Watch this with the colour turned off to get the original effect, and minimise the effect of the tacky costumes. I should add that my 7 year old self was utterly spellbound.
