    One of my most favorite episode + title combo in the entire run. Two brothers. Eren and Zeke, holding the greatest powers in the world, both with their own belief of what freedom and salvation looks like, trying to change the world and save everyone. Colt and Falco, both stepped up to sacrifice for their family's tainted reputation, finally united in the worst way. And, most surprisingly moving to me, Marcel and Porco. Both were holders of the Jaw, and along with our Ymir, seemingly destined to die sacrificing themselves in order to protect someone else. Those small moments of connection are what really grounds this arc.

    Once again, i’m baffled by how observant he is about all characters actions and dilogue.
    To the Eren-Flaco “wait” line, i might add that moment of them talking on that bench, back in the Liberio hospital, when Eren told Falco “It’s good if you won’t become a titan(shifter), I’d like if you would live a long life”. It ties so well to this “wait” moment we saw today, Eren always cared, and still cares about Falco.

Ymir is bound by her the will to follow commands of anyone with royal blood once they are free to move in the paths. Since Zeke has awakened his freedom to move in the paths by connecting with the founder ( which is shown when he is unable to move when he is being healed by Ymir) he is able to command Ymir and thus he was able to gain the power of the founder.

      Reading it in the manga was painful, but seeing it fully animated with music, voice acting, and everything really made it all the more impactful. I think that Isayama could not have made his death anymore fitting for his character. Seeing the tears in his eyes when he heard his late brother talking about wanting to protect him, the way he was briefly shown again when Zeke told Colt he understood the love Colt had for his brother Falco, the shakiness and instability in his voice as he talked about Marcel, and then the moment itself. Seeing how Galliard has been shown multiple times to have a soft spot for the Warrior candidates and has looked at those kids like they were his own little siblings, I think his send-off did really well to honor that commonly overlooked side of his character. He had lost his own big brother so he sort of became that figure for the new candidates just as the other Warriors did for their juniors, and when his time came to an end, he emulated his own brother's selflessness by giving up what little time he had left so one of the kids could get a second chance at life. As sad as I am that he's gone now, I'm glad Isayama didn't give him some lame forgettable death but rather made it meaningful and important to the storyline. I'm also glad to see that FILMBuFF appreciates and understands his character just as much as I did.

  • @Tohlemiach
    @Tohlemiach 2 года назад +75

    Another amazing detail that I always appreciate about this series is the way that Isayama has characters reprise certain lines that either they themselves or other characters have said previously. The most famous example is obviously the "because I was born into this world" line, with other well-known examples being "this world is cruel" along with Armin's "In order to defeat a monster you have to be willing to give up your humanity", but this episode brings up an interesting one in the second half.
    When Eren tells Zeke that there's no way he'd ever go along with such a messed up plan, he uses the EXACT same verbiage in Japanese as he does in the part 1 flashback when Zeke's fake plan was being introduced to Paradis. The only difference is he used polite verb conjugations when he said it in part 1 since he was in a formal setting, but he uses the same enraged tone. The fact that he gets to say those exact words again, this time right to Zeke's face, is so cool to me.

      @@bitch8205 It is an inconsistency in the Manga as well. In the panel where Pieck waves to him in Chapter 116, we see him as the lone figure with a Garrison jacket. The next time we see his jacket, in chapter 119, before his death, it's a scout jacket. Of course, between the Pieck waving scene to when Pieck gave him the sign to eat Eren, he could've swapped jackets. If this was Star Wars, we'd get an entire spin-off to cover this. But yeah, the correction in the blu-ray was the right move as it fixes the inconsistency and makes him blend into the Jaegerist crown better.

    I assumed that Falco turned out "weird" because he had only a tiny bit of Zeke's spinal fluid. As we saw with Rob Reiss, if things are not done a certain way, the results can be unpredictable.
    As I'm writing this, I just realized that Falco was not very committed to following Zeke's instructions -- he shifted his attention from Reiner to Galliard without a second thought. Likewise, there was a "weird" titan in the episode that introduced the Beast Titan, who also failed to follow through with Zeke's order. So a deformed titan may indicate one who has a lower portion of Zeke's spinal fluid, and is therefore less beholden to him.
    (I could be reading way too much into this, but given the way Isayama writes, this could very well have been his intent)

    • @lucassmith3790

      I'm gonna go with, yeah. You're 100% overthinking it. So many titans uave fucked up proportions, Falco's is no different. Remember Eren's pure titan? He was almost as disfigured as that big-eyed titan of S2. It's as simple as, Falco as a titan noticed that there was an easier human to eat. It's also possible that while pure titans eat humans in the hope that they are a titan shifter, they may be able to sense when one of the 9 is in their presence. Maybe they show up as a brighter glow of light.

    It's so refreshing seeing someone crying over Colt and Falco's scene and brotherhood, it's extremely touching and I was actually very surprised not a lot of reactors cried over that. Especially seeing Colt hugging Falco and not wanting to let go of him... It just gets me every time. But I'm glad you did! Plus your reaction to the scene when Reiner was letting Falco eat him. The moment Eren didn't catch the baseball, Zeke knew something was up. Because that symbolized them being on the same page. And so, Zeke wanted to believe Eren was on the same page as him, but in the back of his mind, he had doubts. And I like that he didn't have blind faith in Eren but approached the situation cautiously. Zeke has been manipulated by his family for his entire life. But even after Eren tries to pull the rug out from under him, he still loves him and tries to reason with his younger brother.
    Jaw Titans have a habit of sacrificing themselves for Reiner. This episode really showed how far the older brothers in this show went for their younger ones.
    R.I.P. Porco and Colt
    Also, fun fact, some of the snippets of images before Eren got into the paths were actually cameos from volume extras in the manga(GothKasa and Nerd Armin). Along with one image being the AOT men in a sauna. So that's nice..

      Okay and? They made their bed and now they simply have to lay in it. Personally I love Reiner. Can't say the same for everyone else from Marley. Can't sit here and act like I wish for their survival just because I seen a sad backstory. They good characters but not someone I'd root for in this war.

    • @fahrenheit2101
      @fahrenheit2101 Год назад +1

      @@izrael820 Then you're still pretty closed minded. Judge on an individual basis, don't lump people together. As individuals, they're all clearly not terrible people (well, for the most part). Hell, the most 'terrible' person, personality wise, is probably Floch, and he's all for Eldia. Just appreciate that neither side is in the right here and there are valid reasons to take either side here. Yes, current Marley is 'worse' than current 'Eldia' but looking at it that way is pretty shallow, and brushes over all of the subtleties involved in this war to simply support your main cast that you've loved for the past few Seasons. Reiner's not the only great character on Marley's side, and if you can't see that, then you're probably biased - I'd say Gabi's one of the better characters, but most people can't see past her actions.
      They're people who were raised, along with the rest of the world, to see the people of Paradis as devils. To an extent, there's some truth there. In the past, Eldia dominated the world for millennia in a not so nice manner. And they remain 'monsters capable of turning into Titans', and that's an inescapable fact. The threat of the rumbling remains alive with those 'island devils' and that's a scary prospect, so the choice to dehumanise that group of people, while still a terrible thing to do, is understandable - you can see how things ended up the way they are. And in spite of all that, a lot of our Marleyan cast still realise that what they've been taught isn't the be all and end all, with Reiner learning that first, and Gabi's character arc revolving around her realisation that 'there were no devils - just people'.
      Nobody 'deserves' to die here. As Zeke said, 'war is a terrible thing', and honestly his mindset and Euthanisation plan are also totally valid.
      Essentially, Isayama's writing isn't so shallow that you can easily pin the blame somewhere (save for the first King Fritz, dude was awful), and the entire cast is pretty well written and diverse, so I'd say it's best to experience AoT while ignoring your own personal biases, as this is the way Isayama is telling the story. The point of the start of Season 4 was to establish the humanity of the people on the other side of the sea.
      Am I saying Eren's bad for trying to destroy the world? No, not really - his choice is also totally valid, and he may be right in thinking it's the only path forward to ensure the safety of Eldian people.
      The only thing to root for here is the end of the war, don't pick a side, most of the people on either side are pretty innocent at this point, and everybody's paying for the sins of their ancestors or those in positions of power.
      Sorry for the rant, I just can't stand Marleyan slander - to me, it demonstrates a misunderstanding of the story being told.

    • @izrael820
      @izrael820 Год назад

      @Farhan Awais naw I appreciate the rant but I'll forever slander Marley. Once they sent titans to paradise and received no backlash, then proceeded to keep sending soldiers and titans they were official trash. Warriors could've noticed and fought back Marley since they are the literal weapons of mass destruction but they were slaves at heart how I see it. Of course with any amount of twisted logic we could say each side has valid reason for doing what they doing, like how I support a whole culling but there ain't no leaving bias aside. Even if I did leave it out, which I did a good job of most the series, How can I not see the obvious. They picked on and bullied the weak and now reap what they sow. Yea ofc I understand but simply put it they actions don't align with my moral compass provided with the context.

    • @fahrenheit2101
      @fahrenheit2101 Год назад +1

      @@izrael820 Who's 'they'? They're not a hivemind - only select individuals were involved, and the rest of Marley, and the remainder of the world for the most part consists of innocent people. Eren isn't getting revenge by any means at all, and this isn't some satisfying karma. It's a genocide, that Eren himself knows is a terrible, terrible thing, but a necessary measure to save his comrades.
      Inside the walls, across the sea - it's all the same. Seeing it any other way is falling prey to bias, and just as you're not changing your standpoint, I'm sticking by that, and firmly.
      It's not nearly as simple as 'be nice to them because they weren't mean to you'. The story, with all of the players involved and how far it's come, is far, far too complex for that to have ever been an option. It's a better portrayal of war as it is today. And while it's easy to look at war as an outsider and go 'This country bad because the other people weren't doing anything wrong', sometimes you do need to consider the individuals making up the country, and how they came to make the individual choices that they did, and in AoT, much of the Marleyan cast's decisions are understandable. Note that I'm not saying they're good decisions morally - just that I can see how it came about, and I don't particularly blame anyone here, except people who genuinely suck (only 2 examples I know of are Floch and King Fritz)
      War sucks - the best characters of this show are well aware of that, even some of the major players like Eren are reluctant to go ahead with what they're doing, but they know they must 'abandon their humanity to overcome monsters', and if you really carefully examine both sides of this conflict, BOTH sides are doing exactly that, and most of the characters are nuanced enough to know the terrible things they are doing. Magath himself said, 'there is no doubt the people of Paradis are spawn of the devil, and there is no doubt we are devils ourselves'.
      So yeah, I'm not in support for mindlessly hating anybody that isn't Reiner.

    Of course you noticed right away that something was off with the chains! As for me, I thought nothing of them, because even remembering that Zeke wasn't chained in episode 1, he was "just" in the Paths at that time, whereas now he's at the Coordinate for the first time, and yes he doesn't have the Founding Titan, but he was brought here by the Founding Power, so I just thought, "well, that makes sense".
    And I've been waiting for a long time to see a reactor notice Reiner's reaction at Eren's "wait!" moment, I knew you wouldn't disappoint!
    Also, a minor point that I liked, is the role played by Armin & co: they're part of the reason Eren (or at least his head) made it this far, because Peak/Magath would have shot him if it weren't for Armin and Mikasa, then Reiner would have caught him if it weren't for Jean and Conny.

Ymir being a slave to the royal bloodline; she will listen to commands from Zeke. you see a lot of shocked and confused reactions, but if you really pay attention you can pretty much call it out on screen. Your understanding of the show is unbelievable. I want to know your thoughts about how you think SNK will end. Well, I hope there'll be more SNK next week. I can't wait for your reactions!

    I think Reiner holding down Eren and touching Porco at the same time is the reason why Marcel's memory was unlocked.. right ? Did reiner really plan for that to happen ? Only the founder or founding Titan can do that right ? 🤔

      I don't think Eren was necessary there, we know memory visions work pretty random, it's also said that contact between shifters can help trigger it, so it makes sense that Porco saw an important memory related to Reiner in that moment, it wasn't planned, Reiner just was trying to help him react.
