I hope this isn’t a silly question but once you’ve got your muslin fitted, what next? How does that help to make a garment? I have bought lots of commercial patterns and the finished garment is a bit hit or miss even when I try to get a correct fit. Can I somehow use a sloper to get a better fit from a commercial pattern?
Hello Susan, I’m interested in learning fashion design from the very basics. I know you have a patreon with more in depth videos, Is there a subscription option of yours for a school-style video course? In a way that would cover everything needed to know and how to start from 0 knowledge?
So I would look at my playlist called "Susan's Essential Fashion Design Videos" as a start on your journey! After that, look at my lace gown project for a full design project path. My Patreon is a good place for detailed teaching videos, but there are so many paths you could go on! Check them all out and sign up, or write me an email for private lessons! Love ya, Susan
HI SUSAN MY NAME IS TERRY. I WAS WONDERING IF I WAS TO PURCHASE YOUR SLOPERS IN THE SIZE 12, WILL I BE ABLE TO GRADE IT TO MY SIZE? SUSAN CAN YOU DO A VIDEO ON HOW TO GRADE A SLOPER TO MY SIZE. THANK YOU TERRY.
Hi Terry thank you for your comment. I currently have the dress Sloper on my website in three sizes. I am developing the five piece Sloper in sizes. 2-16 US sizes. I am not sure what size you are and if that fits you. You can email me fir more info at eliascouture@gmail.com
They technically are not the same thing even though they can be a Sloper is a basic bodice and skirt and sleeve that is not a pattern. It is a Sloper without seam allowance that is used to make all other patterns and designs. A block is usually a good pattern or design a company has in there collections that either sold really well or is there brand shape so to speak. A block could have seam allowance or not and is also used to make other designs for that company. So how they can be the same slopers and blocks could be a basic pattern design without seam allowance.
Silly question, Susan. I've watched many of your videos (love them by the way) and I want to know if I drape a sloper from a size 4 mannequin, will that sloper size remain a size 4 and I can grade from there? I'm still trying to absorb all this information with no education in design, only self taught. I've heard you mention in other videos sizing from a size 8 mannequin will translate to a standard size 6? Or something similar....which is it? I'm trying to learn grading so I can sew for other people. Thanks so much!
Hi There, this is a very good question. I think I should make a video just on this subject. The short answer is that it depends on what kind of clothing line you are trying to produce. Missy fashion, contemporary, bridge, bridal, or ready to wear! So in general depending on your line and if its missy.....and USA sizing. The dress form is larger than the garment size. So yes, the size 8 dress form converts to a size 6 garment then you can grade that size up or down....I hope this helps!
Hi Jose, no I don't do Men's slopers at this time. You have the same avenues to getting a sloper made. They are One line tutorials, books, using a commercial pattern, or using a well fitting mens shirt or jacket to make a pattern block. I hope that helps:).

Thank you, Susan. I'd love to see a video on this subject! I'm mostly looking to learn for RTW but mainly specialize in swimwear.
Do you do sloper for men’s clothing? If not what can I used or where can I go to for men’s sloper.
