CHRIS STAPLETON HAS BEEN NAMED BY THE CMA THE COUNTRY MUSIC'S ARTIST/SONGWRITER OF THE DECADE (2010-2019). CONGRATULATIONS CHRIS. YOU ARE INDEED A LIVING COUNTRY MUSIC LEGEND!!!!!!
So 135 Thumbs down? WTF??? I'm a 60 year old professional classical musician, I've hated bluegrass ALL my life until about a week ago when I heard these guys the first time and fell in love! Tammy's fiddle playing and backing vocals and Chris Stapleton's voice ..... How could anyone dislike this??? I'm shocked.... Too bad for thumb downers. More for me.
Brother most everyone hears bluegrass and only think country, I play saxophone in a bluegrass group, The Mighty Troubadours and I have been loving every minute of it, we do this song too!!!
Its still so long and drawn out like that boring tom cruise movie. Collateral. But but tom cruise does the the thing. The expert technique in the alleyway! Its super technical! So what. People fell asleep like it was that The Box movie. Bore me a river. It should sound like psychostick. Like that song this is a sandwhich. Short and sweet. But no its gotta sound like a weird fart. Why?
Now the music is playing in a whiskey saloon It comes through my window Like a favorite tune I can walk down the stairway I can walk down the street And lay down my money But it's not what I need Let me fly on your wings Rise above these earthly things Make it all be alright Angel of the night, angel of the night There's a weight on my shoulder That won't let me be Like something left over between you and me I know there's a danger whenever we touch It's always the last time But it's never enough
By my own research which is this : I let colleges and friends who normally don't like country etc listen to chris and they either love it or are really okay with it. So by this i can say the 108 people who dislike really suck and prob steal candy from kids.
I discovered Steeldrivers on RUclips & immediately bought my first CD of theirs....it remains loaded in my player...would love to see them in person. Love bluegrass grassroots....the people are the best...never meet a stranger. You ever get a chance to go to a bluegrass festival don't miss it & more than anything...know this secret...the real shows start when the stages close for the night & the campfires are lit. Sing or play...sit down & join in anywhere...you'll love it..
What state are you guys in? I’m from Central PA and it seems like we have more than a few bluegrass festivals every year, except this one of course. Never made it to one before but if they are a must-see I’ll definitely be going
I didn't know who they were until I saw them at a Bluegrass festival in Thornton, NH some years ago. Stapleton was replaced by the perfect singer. They are awesome without him. I didn't even know who Stapleton was until after that show. Good times.
I grew up going to festivals on the weekends because my dad was one hell of a banjo player and he and his band always played. No lies told about it really getting good once the sun goes down. Those boys would pick all night long. Great time, better people
Chris Stapleton is amazing...touches the soul with his smokey velvet voice. I had not heard The Steeldrivers until recenlty -really love the sound and of course you can hear Chris's bluesy sound -love,love the sound..adding The Steeldrivers to my Chris Stapleton playlist which is about 90% of the secular music I listen to. I would love to hear Chris sing gospel bluegrass-what a great sound that would be.
+Kaitlin Huggins +Adrian McGhee, unfortunately Chris (the lead singer) is no longer with them. They still sound great, but missing that incredible voice he has.
Adrian McGhee March 2018 and it’s the first time I’ve heard of them (came up in suggested) and I have been to a number of shops here in Melbourne (AU) and no one stocks this music here I guess I will have to get digital downloads and play it as loud as I can on the job sites 😁
I have tried finding other bluegrass music to match this particular sound but I can't. I want a variety of bluegrass music but Steeldrivers are by far the only ones I will listen to until I can find someone else who plays like this....
Can't wait to see these guys next weekend at The Frankfort Bluegrass fest! Along with Billy Strings, special consensus, & Micheal Cleveland! Best free fest in the area. So if you're in the south suburbs of Chicago come out!
Yep, I couldn't make it to that one and regretted it bad. Made up for it seeing them at Bonnarroo when Chris was still with them. Wow. What a show and what a festival.
Upon first hearing this song (on Pandora), I immediately thought it was just another bluegrass cover song. So after spending about 15 minutes searching for the original writer, I realized that this was an original song by The Steeldrivers, and Chris stapleton. I thought “There’s no way this is an original, it’s too good to have been written in this decade”. Sooo after another 10 minute search… yup! Steeldrivers! I’m sorry I doubted you! Haha. This song brings me to tears, thinking of the girl who got away.
I just saw these guys live a couple days ago at Rudy fest. They sound just as good live if not better than a recording! I hope I get to see them again. Dan Tyminski band was there too, GREAT show lol
The verse is 1 - m7 - m6 in a minor key, watchtower is 1 - m7 - m6 - m7 A pretty common progression. When you learn hundreds of songs you start to see the patterns forsure.

It’s best not to keep track of how many people are mistaken.

For real. Some of my best memories are from a couple Bluegrass festivals I attended. Beautiful!

Banjo counters......ahhhhh what a piece
His voice at first reminds me of Tim O"brien on this song.
Absolutely amazing

Octane Art Canada I’ve got a comment on here saying this is just “All Along the Watchtower” with different lyrics haha. Glad others caught it too
Oh dayum... I know your comment is 2 years old but I've heard this song at least 100 times and never once had that occurred to me
Sounds more like stairway to heaven to me

Oh Yeah! It's got lyrics alright. All them words you're hearing? That's them.
Not a bad find
Jesus who is the fiddle player?
Is this supposed to be a pseudo-cover of All Along the Watchtower?

Now the music is playing in a whiskey saloon
It comes through my window
Like a favorite tune
I can walk down the stairway
I can walk down the street
And lay down my money
But it's not what I need
Let me fly on your wings
Rise above these earthly things
Make it all be alright
Angel of the night, angel of the night
There's a weight on my shoulder
That won't let me be
Like something left over between you and me
I know there's a danger whenever we touch
It's always the last time
But it's never enough
