"The Steeldrivers' brand of bluegrass - intense, dark, poetic, and inescapably human - is a refreshing reminder of the timeless power of string band music, and is captured perfectly on the new 'Hammer Down.' - Music News Nashville
On this, their third release, The Steeldrivers have truly laid the "hammer down," as the aptly titled recording boldly states. Make no mistake about it, The Steeldrivers are back with a vengeance, stronger than ever, with the same unparalleled intensity, vocal strength, peerless harmonies, and instrumental virtuosity that won them fans and almost instantaneous award-winning recognition, both within the bluegrass world and in the Americana music world and beyond. The songs have the same edginess and the same stunning harmonies and gruff soulful lead vocals, thanks to both fiddler and vocalist Tammy Rogers - who is featured even more on the new record and shines all the more for it - and to Gary Nichols whose lead vocals carry on seamlessly, from the group's first two albums. 'Hammer Down' carries on The Steeldrivers' own tradition of bluegrass, without missing a beat!

Colombian here. One of the things that still makes me respect and love the USA in the current state of things is and always will be, bluegrass and country. Loved it all since I watched the Dukes of Hazzard with my dad at age 5. Thank you America
Watching the dukes of hazard with my dad is a core memory for me man, thanks for reminding me of that with your comment buddy 🤙🏼
On the st johns river toking to this is beautiful.
This audio setup that allows you to click on a song and go to it is fantastic! Many thanks to Rounder Records.
Ahhh.... Drifting down that winding black-river in my canoe with a case of beer and this playing on the CD player. I can't wait. SWEET!!
Yep....that kind of thing.....
And that's when I fell in love with you.
Omg! I love them. And his voice...

Just saw this band this past weekend (8/30/14) at the Grand Ole Opry. WOW. They flat tore it up. Do yourself a favor and go see 'em or at least buy their CD's. Stuff this good doesn't come along every day.
Caleb Watts
I have never in my life heard music that said everything my heart ever screamed!!! I f-n love it!!!! More please!!!!
I am listening to this, getting ready to see them live tonight at Zanzabar in Louisville, Ky. I have seen them many times. Each new show is 'the best' as far as i'm concerned; Steel on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This album is great. One of my favorites. I love how each song is like a different stage of a breakup
absolutely worth every penny. I bought a couple. Best CD I've heard in a long time.
I didn't know they existed until I heard them at the Dailey & Vincent festival in Denton, NC last month. I bought their latest CD and love most of the songs on it. The lead singer reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughn.
I went to their website and discovered that they're coming to my hometown, Newberry, SC on Nov 9. I plan to be there.
Thanks Rounder! Clearly a record company that "gets it" when it comes to the new social media. I love this album and I plan to purchase it this week.
I cant help it.....
So much funky soul going on....
Their sound goes straight to my soul
No comment, other than I heard 3 songs and ordered the CD.
Wow, track 4 is absolutely, astonishingly beautiful!
Who's the lead voice?
dominickcampasano1602 Gary Nichols from Muscle Shoals Alabama

Wow and wow! This band has held onto its verve and style and sound while replacing their original singer/songwriter and now the founder! I love this album!

AWESOME BLUEGRASS CD!!!
When this world implodes on itself, bluegrass will be the only thing that survives.
Bluegrass apocalypse? Sign me up.
we need to get back to our roots. all of us need a good shakin
I'm ready. I imploded with bluegrass long ago and embrace that survival.
oh I would be in heaven if that happens #countrymusicforlife
Outstanding!
Who is the new vocalist? He had some big shoes to fill but I think the ole boy's got enough soul to fill em. Nice job Steeldrivers...
+Christopher Johnson Gary Nichols.
Very funky....
Fantastic album. I like Chris more than anybody but this singer is great also. Fantastic bend and musicians but heart of the bend is Tammy Rogers!
Love them!!
Just can't get enough of Chris Stapleton's voice and music!! Love it!
This is not Chris Stapleton. Its a new lead singer for this album
Awesome I got the cd
I was weary of the lead vocal change after Stapleton but he's really growing on me. Way to stick with it Steeldrivers!
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account..?
I stupidly lost the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
@Alonso Canaan Instablaster :)
@Wayne Devin Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and im trying it out now.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Wayne Devin It worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out !
@Alonso Canaan no problem xD
The "New Guy" Is 2016 Grammy nominated Gary Nichols from Muscle Shoals , Alabama and you can see him On February 15th , On the Grammy awards!!!
Thank you for posting this. I was wondering if I would truly enjoy the SteelDrivers as much with Gary Nichols as lead. His voice is phenomenal, but he's no Chris Stapleton. Now that I know I will truly enjoy this album, I will make that purchase! :)
These musicians are TERRIFIC! Thanks for uploading...
I enjoyed this a lot.
WOW i'm all in!
hooked
Love it!!!!!
yeah real nice sounds good
Saw the new Steeldrivers at Poppy near Morhead, Kentucky a few months back. PEOPLE!!!!! This band is beyond any CRITICISM!!!! Chris has moved on. Get over it. New Dude is a more talented musician and a showman! True, no one can turn a tune like Chris, That era has passed. Buy the damn CD! Dont just listen to free stuff.
Its a great band and an OK cd, but this man is not more talented that Chris Stapleton. Please don't get it twisted.
I stopped listening to the steeldrivers after their second CD and I've been putting off listening to this but hell this is pretty good.
Their current lead singer reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Yeah he does.
Came upon by accident. HAPPY accident! Love 'em!
Waiting desperately till they return to Vermont. Their performance was almost better than the CDs.
yes these guys are dame good if you like look at scale hund
I'd really like to see them in Germany
I'll never understand why Chris left this group. The new guy is really good, but not quite the same as the original Steeldrivers. Still my favorite modern bluegrass/blues band. Dude walked away from a good thing.
+Kelnx Chris isn't a bluegrass only guy. As progressive as these guys are, he was still stuck in bluegrass mode all the time. That's too restrictive for someone like Chris.
+Joshua Caleb
Is Chris in a different band now? What's Chris' last name?
Aaron Hulse Chris Stapleton. I've never got to meet him personally, but he used to play football with my best friend's brother back in high school. He's a true kentucky boy, hence why he was in a bluegrass band in the first place, but he's always been more of a classic rock/country guy.
Aaron Hulse And to answer your question, he was playing with a band the the "Jompson Brothers," a rock band that he founded. I think he's going for a solo career now, though.
Cool, I'm checking out his show in the Northwest in November
Your ears brother.
Guitar tabs anyone? I can't find anything online
Anyone know what melody I'll Be There is really really similar to? It's bugging the crap out of me.
Edit: OH! It's While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
If the fiddler Tammi Rogers is on the track, it's good.
Yeah you don't want to listen to this kind of music if you're depressed,
25:32
Guitar tabs/chords, anyone? Better yet, bring out a sheet music book for this album :) Please and thank ya...
I use my ears
Oh c'mon... Get over Stapleton. He's gone. Enjoy the music! Gary, you're hot, you have a great voice and you can perform damn well. We love ya!
Damn I miss Flagstaff.
Can't say "R" in Eastern Kentucky.....
not stapelton... but not bad!
They will get a buck or 2 when u share their material..?
Ohh . other wise these great musicians just have to play outside wall mart for change ?
Or ?
Yummy
Actually its not Chris anymore, but the new guy sure isnt bad
