- I first met Bob Clouser during a trade show in Somerset, New Jersey close to 15 years ago when I first traveled there with Hardy. The industry is small, everyone knows each other in about 10 minutes. But it's people like Bob that give you that special bonus of going to a show. Many of these guys have been in attendance for decades, they’re the foundation of our sport, and Bob was one of my guys.
Clouser has a big, boisterous laugh that is full of love. His heart is with Smallmouth Bass and the Susquehanna river. Always has been and always will be. The Smallmouth Bass was was Lefty’s favorite too.
Bob’s life changed when his father bought him a fly tying vice at a young age, but it was thirty seven years ago when he tied the Clouser Minnow that would be a game changer. It was a baitfish pattern that would catch the largest variety of fish that swim. Lefty said he caught 86 difference kinds of fish with it. Bonefish to billfish this fly is deadly.
Bob has been a guide, tying and casting instructor, author of two books and lecturer. But Bob’s biggest story is one about love, the love of fish and his friends.
We hope you enjoy...

I certainly enjoy working with Bob's son, Bobby, at the White River Fly Shop in Harrisburg and I love to fly fish for Smallmouth Bass in the Juniata River. I learned a lot from Bobby fly fishing from my G3 1860 CCJ and I love to tie the Clouser Swimming Nymph and Clouser Crayfish fly patterns.
Awesome interview, so good to see these legends and hear their stories. Well done guys!
Great interview! Bob’s a class act!
Amazing podcast. It's crazy how much you can learn just from listen legends like Bob Clouser.
RIP BOB
Another great interview with a legend! Thank you Andy.
The very first fly I learned to tie was his Clouser. I took a class while my now wife as a medical convention. Toom a walk along the hotel beach until I came across a small creek dumping water into the bay. First cast, a jack, second cast a snook. A few cast later 25lbs tarpon!!!! At that moment I knew Fly fishing was for ever!!! All thanks to that Clouser Minnow
I believe one day at cape Canaveral on bio lab road , I got to interact with Mr. Clouser . I had a weird feeling believe I actually met him . I always thought it was him very nice and humble man. I think to this day it was Mr. Clouser. I’ll never forget it
I met Bob at a 3 day event at Renzetti. What you see is what you get! A down to earth kind man who is steeped in experience, and takes great joy in sharing it! He is a credit to the sport!!!! Thanks for enabling him to share his story!
