In selection, this test is done at the end of the first week. Imagine doing the final test which is 40 miles, 25 kg bergan weight plus food, water and rifle. Then having to navigate yourself through the checkpoints in under 20 hours with probably minimal sleep/rest and minimal food intake. Insane fitness from the guys who actually pass this phase

Don’t underestimate what carrying a rifle in 2 hands at all times is like compared to having two arms free. They also are not allowed watches or any other way of determining their time. But fair play to these guys they gave it a go

Although i never did selection i did find though that when doing BFT's setting off early & fast made the gap too much for most of the other participants to catch up by the middle to end of the test. Although i was depleted of electrolytes towards the end it was too much distance for the rest to catch. I was certainly no 'racing snake' so adopted my own style to get a decent time.

i did a mile and half and came 1st, i remember when i did it for army pre selection lad would shoot off 1st and i knew they will be fucked 3 laps in and so they was.
