I knew what he looked like, vaguely. But I have never seen him perform. As soon as I saw him I thought "is that Bill Laswell?" Scanned the comments to confirm...
I knew it! If the movies are six degrees of Kevin Bacon, then music is six degrees of Bill Laswell! Try it-you’ll be surprised! However, the most recorded voice in history is the Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, with over 40,000 songs in over 1,000 movies! Peace.
Laurie Anderson's uber-creative bent and biting wit wouldn't find a home on many shows... thanks for Letterman. But do check out the full length version on her site and many others. The lyrics are more incisive than even what she did here.
@TanyavsManya She stated in her book that she performed "Walk the Dog" on his show in 1983 (I think) and after he asked what that was. She said "country-western I think". Afterwards, she was never invited back.... until this. Now of all the songs to perform "Walk the Dog" is a weird one! There is nothing close to mainstream TV about this (which is probably why she chose to perform it!).
And The Voice Said....."This Is The Hand....The Hand That Takes....This Is The Hand....The Hand That Takes....Here Come The Planes.....They're American Planes....Made In America....Smoking Or Non-Smoking?"
The Problem with Laurie and similar artists is:Lyrics saying something to all of us,but wraped in classic pop song, doesn't touch anybody anymore...if artists meant to realy SAY something, they should find a new kind of expression, otherwise is just nice..but no real power to move people to the change..Do something NEW!!!!!
The woman is a national treasure.
Yes she is. Have seen her on stage.
Small correction: an international treasure
Bill Laswell on bass ... Gold
Only Laurie Anderson could write this. She's one of the few from our age I would all a musical genius.
Laurie looks like she's having so much fun. Love this. Love her.
Colin Stetson and Bill Laswell is the only accompaniment possible for Laurie Anderson on Letterman.
Covid19 April 2020!
She's a genius 😷 🎧💋😷✋🙆👀⏳💥⛽👣
ruclips.net/video/95Gxq8a07QA/видео.html what problem???, the experts from the government are dealing with the problem...
Exactly what brought me here.
I thought "hmmm where have I heard this before?..."
Simply Irresistible
She so fine there's no tellin where the money went - must of went to an expert.
Most people don't know that the guy on bass is probably the most prolific recording artist/producer of all time.
+Jay John Sometimes I reflect on how much of my record collection has Laswell involved in one way or another.
Bill Laswell is GAWD like, massive bass end!

I’m one of those people. I’ve followed Bill for decades!
Bill Laswell and Colin Stetson at the back!
Laurie is pure genius!!

I'm so grateful to Colin for indirectly introducing me to her work!
Laurie is the only expert.

I need a 2021 version of this
Only an Expert can deal with that problem
ARTIST

and she looks FANTASTIC
glad to see some new work from her
thanks !
❤️
I remember Seeing Letterman & hearing this Great Song. And Just Love It. And So so REAL. xx
The man with the horn is impressive. That sax must weigh a ton!
Colin Stetson. His solo work is awesome, and he's on to making horror movie soundtracks now (like Hereditary)
This is even more important today.
Jesus, Colin Stetson and Bill Laswell!
just brilliant
GENIUS!
And I thought I knew my Laurie Anderson! Go figure
awesome!
What a fucking champ!
i dig colin stetson and bill laswell with the band
Laurie & Bill at once! :))) Big influence on WH!
Just love that Gatling violin.
Nice haircut.
I always find her material a bit hypnotic .
@OcracokeC
Will do! Greetings.
...and I said, "OK. Who is this. Really?"
Oh, great. Another Laurie Anderson clone.
'WoW i had looked up lou reed and just found her and wow.
And The Voice Said....."This Is The Hand....The Hand That Takes....This Is The Hand....The Hand That Takes....Here Come The Planes.....They're American Planes....Made In America....Smoking Or Non-Smoking?"
Letterman was the expert, maybe he took a second look at this...god makes you think
Colin Stetson again yeah
an expert problem is like... getting pickles on a burger when you explicitly asked for no pickles..these are the expert problems ///
how many times was she on the show?
@jackal59
They solved issues they had at the backstage. ;DD
Tell me more about it since I didn't have chance to see the show.
I'm surprised she went on Letterman again after he treated her like shit during her first appearance.
she's been listening "the doors"...i seek pole shift survival group...
Genius shit right here
Is it antony hegarty in the chorus?
lol bill laswell FTW
who is the dude on sax?
Hard to say. John Zorn played on the album, but I don't think that's him. Zorn pretty much always wears glasses and plays tenor.
That's Colin Stetson! He makes incredible music. Check out the recent Bon Iver album - he's on there.
Dan Rome Thanks! I love how he plays. Laurie A is the coolest too!

you first
All it's missing is "trust the science.
Interesting how Laurie of all people was sucked into the Covid paranoia
Only someone not picking team sides can deal with that problem.
Embarrassingly bad lyrics, good music though. A fan since 1981
pinkstrumpet what's your problem?
shade falcon
The lyrics, fool - it's in the comment
pinkstrumpet got it. i will direct your problem to the appropriate expert.
shade falcon
Hehe!
pinkstrumpet for me it's exactly the opposite, great lyrics, music not super
Woah, Laswell and Colin Stetson!
