Another amazing song from Joni, among so many others. I hope you are going to listen to all of this LP, as well as others by her. She is an absolute Icon in the music world and your world will only be better for having her and her music in your life.
I fell in love with this album in 1971 & have nearly every album she made, but "Blue" still remains my favourite. The video Joni made for this song can also be found on RUclips & is well worth a viewing. .
you nailed it.. "so well written/so well crafted, it only took a few words".. Joni has stated in interviews that she often spent more time taking stuff OUT of songs, than putting in, realizing the value that sometimes "less is more" when it comes to conveying feelings/emotion and letting the lyrics take the lead.. and in order to fit the time restrictions that were on most songs of the time (in order to fit on the vinyl LP's, get radio play etc) Nicely done reaction! 😊
So many levels! Honestly owning the end of a relationship and missing the cold (she’s from Canada) while disillusioned in LA topped off with a sad version of a holiday classic! Great art for true!
"She tapes her regrets to the microphone stand. She says you can't hold the hand of a rock n Roll man, for very long".- Blonde in the Bleachers (For The Roses) Love lessons learned often include the pain and regret of reflection "now I've gone and lost the best baby I've ever had". Joni knows how to capture life's moments the best. ❤
HERE YA GO!!! 👍😊 WHO KNEWWW ( JINGLE BELLS ) COULD BE A DEPRESSING SONG SALVO!😮HAPPIEST OF HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND YOURS! ENJOY THIS LEGEND AND DO MORE OF HER!
Blue was one of the first albums I bought as a teen and has remained one of my favorites...even through my punk and metal fazes. She can touch your soul. 😊❤ 7:12
The reason why Joni is respected as the best is because she makes us not only understand he perspective but make us empathize that we feel exactly as she does even if at 12 years old when I heard it I had obviously never been in a romantic relationship.
Such a beautiful sad song. It reflects not only on the loss of a love, but also on a Canadian in California's wishes for a cold Christmas. Wistfulness upon wistfulness of loss. And as you said, the album is so wonderfully introspective. No dancers, but songs that burrow into your soul.
Here’s a suggestion for a rather unknown/overlooked Joni Mitchell song: “Two Gray Rooms”. There’s a very interesting backstory that you can read about in Wikipedia. The video she made for this song can be found on RUclips. It’s heartbreakingly beautiful.
Looked like your lip may have quivered. It made my eyes moist. This song is so beautifully sad. This song illustrates what a genius Joni is. Creative and Timeless.
This song became my Christmas standard when I was in high school. Because, yeah; sometimes this is how we feel, especially if you’ve just had a romantic relationship end. This was my first Joni album. What a gem!
@@evanhughes1510 Yes. So her singing about a ricer, and ice skating, is an expression of disenchantment with the Laurel Canyon scene -- a longing for bygone days and even isolation. Still, the three LPs -- "Blue," "For the Roses," and "Court & Spark" are part of a whole -- and an amazing evolution. This singling out of one or two tracks per LP is dumb -- self-deprivation.
I love this song. I also really love the cover Lea Michelle did for “Glee!” Both are so beautifully melancholic. I wish all people could show acceptance and understanding regarding the holiday season not always being a bright, beautiful thing for all people or families. I’m not one of those people, but have several friends that are. And, that’s ok. People have a right to feel how they’re feeling without being pressured by others to be in a happy, holiday mood. My wish is that all people could or would become empathetic and understanding. Love more, judge less!
Can you just imagine any musical artist nowadays like Joni Mitchell, just playing their piano and their own voice with no "technical changes and no adding anything that is "tweaked or engineered" and actually release it and have it be a hit on the radio?? I don't know of any musical artist nowadays that would even have the nerve or even think of doing that, they even change their voices in their concerts with "technology". Raw talent has disappeared...at least in my opinion..
Joni Mitchell brought to common, every day expressions of deep pain to quotidienne Canadian radio.. I grew up hearing this and thinking it was somehow about me being gay. I was young and I didn't know what being gay was, the song isn't about burgeoning homosexuality, necessarily, but it certainly is about longing for isolation so that isolation can illuminate identity.....well that's how I always heard it.
AND JONI'S VOICE IS SO CRISP AND CLEAR WHY THE F WOULD YOU NEED TO READ THE LYRICS? I got an idea - Skip all your internet research and just listen to the f'ing song for F sake.
This song expresses the 'other' Christmas.. you know tbe one...alone in pain and regret. The one no-one talks about..
The other Christmas....aah that ONE 😢 , the one with perfect 20/20 hindsight ; when I cannot cry...This one does it for me ❤❤❤
Just devastating when the lyrics switch from making her baby cry, to making him say goodbye. Wonderful song.
"Blue" is Joni's best album, there is not a bad song on it. Listen to the whole thing, you won't regret it.
Another amazing song from Joni, among so many others. I hope you are going to listen to all of this LP, as well as others by her. She is an absolute Icon in the music world and your world will only be better for having her and her music in your life.
No matter how many times I've heard this...she always makes me cry
Me too
So glad this album won the poll and you reacted to it. Such a beautiful, melancholic and poignant piece of musical artistry and history.
❤❤ Love 😍 Joni Mitchell ❤❤ Love this song Joni Mitchell is a goddess of music and has a voice of an angel!😊

Christmas is a difficult time for many people who wish they could just skate away from it all. Thank you for reviewing this.
Thia album is so incredible. Her voice, the lyrics, the production, the music...it really doesn't get better than this. Thank you.

Joni Mitchell is a great singer songwriter and musician, a legend!!!

I love this beautiful sad song. 🎄
So glad you're doing this album. Please do more songs from it.
Another great Canadian🇨🇦 North Battleford Saskatchewan to be exact❤😁
Joni always lays it on the line.
The excitement is the fact you feel all of it. I mean- down deep.
This song makes me want to hold her and tell her it will get better….oh the tears….
You need to listen to "Help Me"....one of my all time favorites
PTX did a short cover of this on their Evergreen album. The trio sounded great.
Yes…speaking of Christmas songs.. love her song, and love the ptx version too.
I love the Indigo Girls cover of this song
Beauty here love Joni love you
This song became my Christmas standard when I was in high school. Because, yeah; sometimes this is how we feel, especially if you’ve just had a romantic relationship end.
This was my first Joni album. What a gem!
Linda Ronstadt covered this beautifully
Joni Mitchell was originally from Canada, but lived for years in "sunny California".
She lived in the laurel canyon neighborhood of LA, along with Carole king, James Taylor and countless others

@@jnagarya519 I hate that the For the Roses album seems to always get overlooked
@@evanhughes1510 Same here.
But I hate the later generations who never go beyond one or two tracks of any album.
I love this song! Check out the version by the wonderful Betty Buckley who tells the STORY
A timely and excellent choice.
There’s no one like Joni!

That was kind of a weird non-reaction for one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking songs ever written and performed.
We all feel that way sometimes, only I couldn't skate on a river to save my life.
I love the Robert Downey Jr version from Allie McBeal💖 I love Joni!

Then stop listening to mainstream crap and search out real artists, there's plenty out there.
There’s Joni and then there’s the rest, she’s never been bettered as a songwriter and probably never will be.
Loved her music when I was a teenager. Please do Madonna - Frozen (Official Video) [HD]
My favorite Joni song is "Cold Blue Steel and Sweet Fire."
Her album For the Roses always gets overlooked for some reason

I only ever like Xmas music that's melancholy.
Regrets never sounded so lovely.

Not one imperfect song on this album
WHY THE F WOULD YOU READ WHAT A SONG IS ABOUT WHEN YOU'RE TWO SECONDS AWAY FROM LISTENING TO IT? Are you simple, or something?
You are a little lost sir . . .
New sub here if you have the time : forever young by Rod Stewart happy new sub here have a Great Day
