- A quick look at the day in the life of a full time fly fishing guide. I only filmed a small fraction of the day as my clients graciously allowed me to film and I didn't want to take my attention away from their day on the water.

6:03 when the caffeine hits JUUUUUUUST RIGHT! YEE YEE!
I had a great time on my guided trip with you this past year. As a noob, you were patient and took the time to explain the who, what and why behind your method. It seriously took my fly fishing game to the next level. Now I'm up here in WA slaying these fish euro style. All the best my friend.
Your an awesome guide a true pro.
This was really cool to watch! I've met a lot of guides and I can say they aren't all as caring as you. Many won't take the time to connect with you and just have a website they refer you to. I wish you all the best!
hell yeah - stoked to see ya in August!!!!!!
That one was a winner! Chaz is really hitting his stride!!
A great video really learned a lot about the guide life
Interesting video, and informative!
Enjoyed the video! Keep it going!!
great video - thanks
Sick taco dude. My first stick vehicle is my current danger ranger, but I wanna upgrade to a taco out of uni. It seems to be the only truck you can still buy with a manual transmission.
Well done!!
That's a great video. What a great day of fishing. Thanks for sharing. Got a kick out of of your comment about driving a stick shift. Some call it the new "Millennial Anti-Theft Device" (aka Manual Transmission).
I just heard a story about a man held up at gun point to steal his car! He was thrown out of the car and then the thief got in and realized it was stick so he ran away. 😂
If I ever get to go with you again I would welcome the nic cage shirt!
You’re one heck of a good guide. You really care about your clients and the service you provide.👍👍 Really enjoyed this video..Nicolas Cage, Anger management, Stick shift and more 😂. Great entertainment! I could Go fishing for a living, but don’t think I could Take people fishing every day for a living. That takes something special..and you have It! Sorry so long. Best wishes to you! 👍👌🎣
Thanks for the kind words .
You might not like it, but this is what peak fly fishing guide performance looks like
Isn't that what peak everything performance looks like? I mean, I'm young and only worked as a dishwasher, but peak performance for any job is Stay up too late the night before, try cover it with caffeine, pretend it's all fine and well.
That was great James. I have been thinking of doing something like that my self. But a bit different. I knew you were a grafter. Oh another slang for mouth. Mush. Take care GRAFTER. Shaun UK.
Awesome video my bro !
Just what I needed to see..... I tie and buy, a mix of both. I agree in the long run it saves a bunch of money. Especially if you are guiding multiple times a week. Would you consider buying a lunch for the clients? I liked your take on making every trip special. I am launching my guide site tomorrow. If I guide a quarter of what you do I would be happy. As for the Nick Cage shirt, be unapologetically you. I am sure they knew what they were getting into when they booked you :) It is definitely crazy the shuttle game behind the scenes. I will stop at Wally Mart for the Garlic PB scent, thanks for the pro tip brother. Tight lines and keep up the great work!
I have found that not doing a lunch gives us more time on the water to focus on fishing . No one has ever told me “Hey James your personality is trash, the fishing was terrible , but man, that sandwich was so good . Sign me up for a week.”
I expect the Cage shirt when I finally get out there to fish with you.
You got it!
I admire your concern that the client have a good time
When I was 17 I saved up all my money to go on a salt water guided trip in FL. The first thing out of that guides mouth was “today’s going to suck” and it did . I promised myself when I started guiding I would never treat people like that.
@@AboutTrout Good for you. My wife started learning to fly fish last Fall. This Spring we took a guided fishing trip during "hatch week" on the upper Delaware River. The guide absolutely knew where the trout were - we saw dozens feeding - mostly emerges. However, my wife is still learning to cast so she rarely was able to place her fly near the rising fish. The guide refused to move the boat closer and then started to shout casting instructions. To put it mildly, she did not have a good time. Perhaps we can travel west and book you?
@@jimreilly9179 I’d love to take you both out . Info@abouttrout.com is my email.
Double waffles? Great installment. Praise.
Dude thanks so much for sharing this with everyone. I'm wanting to start guiding at the shop that I work at and this helps show me exactly what to expect. Awesome video and keep it up.
Glad to you back on RUclips. Thanks for sharing your day!
Thanks for checking it out !
Nice net!
Been watching some vids every once in a while and you’re okay 👌 but you got my attention on this one... no fish sundays?? Yeah brother I know what you mean. Blessings to you and family.
Awesome video, you definitely put the work in for your clients. What brand of net is that you have on your boat?
Thank you! That’s the best boat net the ego2 slider . It’s actually just a paint roller handle but the thread system is proprietary.
What time was it when you left, because you mentioned father's day, and that was the longest day of the year, so it must have been like 4 AM. I do live a lot further north but it's light out here at 4. I know it's kind of a weird thing, but it's just something that interests me. Like I went on vacation at a similar latitude and noticed the sun set and rose a whole lot faster there,
You should really get a lease closer to the river. A place, actually. Killing’ it as usual!
I’m looking at a place . It’s exclusive
Did you add a link to purchase the Nic Cage shirt?
Awesome video. I have tried to find a video like this before and found nothing. I am 13 and want to be a guide someday and I was wondering if for places that you have to pay to get access to. Who pays? The client, the guide or the fly shop.
Usually it is the clients that pay the rod fee for private water.
Good luck young man!
3:01 that mop 😂😂😂😂
All I can hear is Ben from the video 12 things you don’t need for fly fishing where he said “we know your a fly fisher, what year Tacoma do you have.” Hahaha
Crushing it out there! Hope to connect with you sometime!
Really appreciate the video...so do you ever get anxiety or stressed about getting clients hooked up or catching fish. I know I am not a guide but when I take beginners out I feel pretty anxious about then having success.
I used to get worried when I first started guiding but through the seasons I tend not to think about it unless there’s a crazy weather event before the trip .
Dude the Mitski is legit
Gotta get in the zone
Helluva day!
Hi James, I plan to fish the Chama area in the Spring of 2022, how can I get hold of you for a trip ? Thanks, Bob
Bob shoot me an email info@abouttrout.com
Yeah buddy
Man, I think I missed my calling!
Can I get a copy of the "checklist" ?
Just my personal to do list before each trip. Nothing too special or specific.
9:27 🔥🔥
Hey, I am a12 year old fly tier and I was wondering if you have any tips for young tiers? I have been tying since I was eight. Is there any way to get materials cheaper? And how to get affiliated with brands?
Hey Buddy, just keep tying , having fun and fishing . Brands will come to you eventually , it takes time. I started tying at 12 at 31 I had a pattern picked up. Best of luck.
@@AboutTrout Thanks so much, this is very encouraging. Is there anyway to share some of my new pattens?
How much do you take off for no lunch now ? Sounds like a copout .
I don’t understand what you’re asking. Please clarify.
@@AboutTrout I was just kidding with you about not giving a lunch with the trip post Covid. Did that make the trip cheaper with no lunch . Just a little humor!
@@jamesbrede8700 😂 I wish there was a sarcasm font. Lol
Great vid! Was this on the San Juan ?
Yep!
No cbd dawg????
That’s for volume 2 , how to be a fly fishing influencer.
Bbrrrrrrriiiiiinnnnnggggggg!
🤣😂🤣😅🤣
Day in the life of a fly shop employee.......(messing with fishing guides).
