Barry Lyndon was originally going to be a film about Napoleon. Kubrick really obsessed over every documented little detail of his life, but the movie executives told him to change the story because there was already two movies about Napoleon that were releasing the same year

Night of the Hunter is one of the greatest movies I never heard of until my movie watching friend threw it on. Whew Robert Mitchum is fantastic in that.
Perfect timing to release this! I'm always interested in seeing other people's collections, it really helps if I'm on the fence about certain titles and introduces me to others. I think I'll add Carnival of Souls and Umbrellas of Cherbourg to my list - they sound interesting.
One of my biggest dreams is getting to walk into the Criterion closet. Criterions are always a must buy for me for their special features. Such great knowledge to obtain from their commentaries and little shorts. Would love to know you’re thoughts on the digital vs physical media debate, maybe in a video😬. Love the videos and it’s nice to see ya back! Continue killing it, Matt!
Terrific. So many indispensable titles here from 12 Angry Men to The Umbrellas ofCherbourg. Had no idea that Sean Baker did Take Out. That and Daddy Longlegs shoot to the top of my watchlist.

Fun fact about Barry Lyndon: the scenes portrayed to take place by candlelight were *actually* lit only by candlelight. Which, if you know anything about lighting for filming, is a pretty fantastic feat! But that's Stanley Kubrick for you.
The Criterion collection is still one of the best labels out there, I'm glad they keep going despite all the streaming going on these days. Personally, I only own two of them on DVD/Blu-ray so far "The Tree of Life" and "Jeanne Dielman" , mostly because they are a bitch to get a hold of over here in Germany. However, we have an equivalent in quality here called "Bildstörung:Drop Out Collection" to at least partially make up for it.
