Now I have to watch this episode! Admittedly I've been skipping around on episodes throughout the series and watched Endgame, which was big spoiler. But still I love this series, and would like to see how this episode turned out. Glad the public library has the entire series! EDIT: Checked the library and they only have the original series.🙁

Its a little sad it wasn't Janeway / Chakotay but in the end Im glad they kept it that way because she was married back home or had a fiance or something as I recall.
Yeah, she was engaged to a guy named Mark when she set out on the first mission to capture Chakotay's ship, but once they got in contact with Starfleet in the Alpha Quadrant (in season 4 or 5, I think) she received a letter letting her know that Mark had married someone else. At that point she was a free agent.

Voyager was declared lost with all hands, meaning all crewmembers dead. Mark moved on. He and Janeway were only engaged.

She had a fiancé but it was determined in season 4 that he married someone else and was happy without her. So she was free to be with Chakotay
