Paul McGrath was a truly phenomenal footballer who despite serious knee problems put in immense performances at both club and international level. He was very quick, excellent in the air, strong and versatile. He was an incredible reader of the game, very good on the ball and excelled both at centre back and in midfield. This match was one of his finest ever for Ireland and he got a 10/10 rating the following day in the match reviews. He surely ranks alongside the likes of Bobby Moore in the pantheon of great defenders.
Robson was the 80s Roy Keane and the nickname captain marvel was well earned as he was the driving force at Man Utd for many seasons. He had his career disrupted by injuries and never got the chance to shine for England at a major tournament.
Bryan Robson was a more complete player than Keane. Not the other way round. Better motivator, leader on and off the field, scored more goals, better range of passing. Robson looked after players off the field, organising activities, advise younger players on contracts etc. Keane led by example and fear but little else I would prefer Robson as the club captain
@@joseparcenary4706 if maybe possible...Robbo played left back for West Brom in his early days and he played at centre half for England in early 1980s and Man Utd around 1986 in emergency cases....he has whole range of skills and a ultimate team man. Ferguson mentioned it was not the depth of any particular skills but the range of Robson's skills - both in attack and defense. I think Robson can adapt to the modern game. He also assisted Venables in the 1996 campaign and managed Boro & West Brom with degree of success. he has the footballing brains and if work with modern coaches he would have be able to take things in

Two World class players. McGrath won the PFA the following year. I don't think he played midfield much longer after this game. His knees were shot.
Incredible player. One of the best players I’ve ever seen. He had everything.
What a great team Ireland were back in those days.
McGrath was wickedly good. A raw natural talent. Desailly type. Power house. This was footballs golden days. Before shady money ruined it all.
