Wow and awesome, I have one too. I think I'll get it out of the closet, dust it off and take it out for a spin to relive the 2000's again. Thanks for the great video Jay.

I vlogged every day in December last year with a Sony Handy Cam. I love the way it looks and handles. Love how it has built in storage as well as external storage. The one I have has a built in projector as well. My FAVORITE part though - the cheap looking zoom lol. No post production can duplicate the way those zooms look quite right lol.
    Great video man

Thanks Garrett - you’re the right the built in storage is bloody handy and nothing compares to the zoom on those things haha. Thanks for stopping by mate!

I have a sony Handycam ( DCR-SR42 ) it is soo good . Because of the camera technology of that time , color were not so perfect compared to the latest ones . But that's the best part , it gives so much of nostalgia ❤️

I was at my local thrift store and the Sony DCR SR42 was in the electronics section in its original box, used, but in great condition. It was 49.99 so I instantly bought it! Just had to get new batteries, a cord to transfer to the laptop, and a memory stick for the pictures. I’m super excited to start recording my favorite moments!!

My Aunty and uncle were throwing out a Sony camera bag 2months ago… due to my curiosity I wanted to see what was in the bag. To my surprise there was a bit of weight… as I opened it, long behold a Sony DCR-SR45 wrapped in another bag in near perfect condition… two batteries in the front pocket. I’ve just bought a charger I’m off to Queenstown New Zealand I can’t wait to film with it !!!

Great stuff! I miss old camcorders. I was also just thinking about my high school videography class and I was in the last class that had to use analog/linear editing /no computers for editing . It was fun.

Hey!!!! I have the same handycam (handed down from my grandpa) and was wondering how you export the videos onto your laptop? What do you use???

Nice video. I dont think we ever had one of these at home, we had a point and shoot camera with some video functionality or I'd just use the video mode on my old phones. But now that I have some money month to month, I have bought a couple of these and also quite a few of the old 8mm tape handycams to compare and make hopefully some interesting content for here or family videos. The AX53 which is still a great camcorder today is around 6 or 7 years old i believe, and costs about £650. It was out of stock last week and then I am now down the rabbit hole of the older stuff. I love the nostalgic look though and I see it becoming a trend or maybe even TV and film studios start trying to buy them, so thought best to get some

Thanks bud - appreciate it. I had fun using this again but on reflection it's probably something I may not use again unless called for. Uploading all the footage can be tricky and/or expensive to buy the right software. I do love the look but with plug-ins like Dehancer, I'll probably just stick with that. Thanks again

I had another weird thought. What about using my Sony dv to record video in vertical format and merging the footage into a full frame two or three vertical frames wide for effective resolution of 1200x720 px.. Maybe like the American Graffiti sequel. I think I am going to try it

I used a free software you can download online. However the free version will only do so much before you have to pay for the full version. Quite an annoying process tbh
