Dear Roger… I’m in Gretna Green on the night before my wedding and watching your video to unwind after a mammoth journey from the south coast. Marrying the man of my dreams tomorrow at 2:30, thanks for the video to relax to. Been a fan for years. Jay.
We used to have this vacuum years ago. I remember that my father got it in Germany. It was very loud and quite awkward to operate. The bag compartment door broke after the first bag replacement and the motor blew out just few months later. We also had an upright Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner that my mom threw out because she literally hated it.
The year is about correct, I had a Dirt Devil Cylinder around that time, it didn’t last long. Watching this it’s flooded the memories back…. Why did I buy this machine back in the day 😂 I think I was just being a cheap skate 😆 mine was from Argos, it was around £45 as I recall, getting bags were a nightmare to get and expensive.
Dirt Devils are kind of known for being cheap, my grandma keeps buying them and they only last a couple of year maximum, but she’s never willing to spend extra money on something that’s so much better in quality
My flatmate bought a black, Dirt Devil Titan upright from Argos, circa 2000. As I recall, it was a piece of junk. There's currently a blue model for sale on eBay and it looks just as bad as I remember.
Even though this is really "not" vacuum related, but it sounds pretty cool. Enhance even more when you were increasing the speed (had a retro spaceship sound).
They've always had awful build quality, even the old MVP uprights that were made in the US. They were created to be a budget brand and they sure lived up to that reputation.
If the rechargeable one is the one I had, you won't be impressed Roger. When i bought it new in about 97 or 98, i charged it for 24 hrs. The first use, the battery went dead before I had my kitchen swept. Lol
Those small tools seem very Japanese in design, the large "shelf brush" and round brush combo is very similar to a few panasonic/national, sanyo, and a hitachi machines I have. The top of the floor tool looks VERY 80's panasonic/national to me. That being said, the quality sure seems worse on this! As another commenter said, this seems like an older design which was purchased (probably by a Chinese company) and produced cheaply as a budget model. In particular, this looks like an 80s National canister vacuum, except modified to move the hose entry to the top instead of the front. The national would have had an on/off switch in the box on the hose grip. How lazy of them to not even change the design there, just blanking it off! I think they did this with the electrolux glider and even turbopower 2 molds later on.
I bought a dirt devil upright of the same era at a garage sale for a few bucks and It's build quality is maybe slightly better but quite similar to this. I had a toy (long gone now) of that upright model when I was young, and after buying the real one I was shocked how similar the toy actually was to the real thing. Which is to say: surprisingly low build quality.
Hi there how are u doing today mate u do a relly good job on here mate keep up the good work on here mate keep up the good work on here mate keep up the good work on here mate
The design of the floor tool is stolen from National Panasonic, my mom's national jet flo had the same floor tool, except it wasn't as cheap and pathetic as this one

South coast to Gretna Green a mammoth journey? really? giggles
I do hope your wedding day is wonderful and happiness always. ... 🌻
How was the wedding?? 🥺❤️
Apart of Dirt Devil's legacy, I think it is rare now a days to find a Dirt Devil cylinder aka canister vacuum. Wonderful job!
"This makes the Hoover Enigma look like a Sebo..." lmfao!🤣🤣
This thing seems more like an unfinished prototype than a part of an actual production run.

Think they were around 1993 and later I remember my mum having the upright dirt devil with the light on the front
Rog I was thinking of buying a drit devil at Wal-Mart last Friday. They had it priced at 49$ so I guess I'm glad I didn't.
Nice Job Roger , love the unboxings 👌👌

bruh
In the Argos catalogue 1997 (well the 1000w version DD101) priced at £44.75. The cheapest of the 18 cylinders available in that catalogue.
The end of the dirt devils hose reminded me of a petrol pump. Its strange how they chose that design.
At least the dirt devil exorcist commercial was good! Favorite vacuum commercial of all time.

This makes a goblin cylinder look like a miele!
I bet it was carbon brushes you could smell. Back in the day, brushless motors weren’t even thought of as far as I remember.
Did not realise Dirt Devil was such poor build quality. Could this be a counterfeit vacuum? Great video as always.

bruh
The brush is like the brush of NATIONAL vacuum cleaners. MC models

That vacuum are from my both year in 1997
Query I'm guessing was they opened the box, saw the quality, re packaged it and immediately sent it back
I bought this when you put it on auction. I sold it a month later due to it being not the best. The value off it is surprising low.
First! Your getting a lot of NIB vacs I love the look of it and the colour

Roger do you have a Shetland vacuum with a separate unit called Electra sponge? I have seen one in a old magazine only.

The new budget tesco value is 19.99 pounds and has a proper floortool😂
I’m not sure why your comment warrants an emoji that many people find offensive. I never shop at Tesco anyway.
Great video!
should put it against the no name tesco or argos ones
£54 in 1997 cost about £100 today
That’s an interesting machine.
No country of origin? Egad, it's so cheap I'm amazed it survived the trip from the factory!
I think you know why it was NIB since 1997 now
I would say the cheapest canister made
