  • Now just halfway through the Swiss rounds of Canadian Nationals 2023 (East Coast Edition), Rob's massively click-compressed Lat tries to setup across from Terence and his tricky destroyer-heavy Ob Superheavy Logistics. Can that ever evasive Stavka connect into the late-game Shaper doom rig?
Commentary by Andrej Gomizelj (he/him) and Jeff 'YsengrinSC' Pruyne (he/him). Stay jacked in to the Métropole Grid for more Netrunner content. [The Runner loses a click, if able].

Can someone explain the Spin Doctor timing window at 23:38 ?

Opponent looking to discard is indication of "move to end of turn" there is a Paid ability window, just before Discard, which the Corp is allowed to use. So the Corp knows the runner will drop to 5 before Lat triggers, Corp uses Spin doctor in that window to increase to 7 so that Lat won't fire

David's response is totally correct, but just to be crystal clear about the structure:
The first step of the Runner's Discard Phase requires the Runner to discard down to their hand size. Immediately after this step, there is a paid ability window. The Corporation can use this paid ability window to rez a Spin Doctor, drawing two cards, and now likely has more cards in HQ than the Runner has in Grip. After this paid ability window closes, the Runner's turn formally ends, and any 'end of turn' triggers - such as Lat's identity text - would fire. However, since the Corp now has more cards in HQ than expected, Lat's out of luck.
Understanding that, you might see that if the Runner had an installed Stoneship Chart Room, they could crack it in the same paid ability window after the Corporation rezzes the Spin Doctor, and both players could end their turn on seven cards, achieving the Lat draw.

There’s a paid window right after discard? Wild - So runner can give themselves more cards as a lifeline for example after discarding down…
