    This should read "commissioned life in the RAF, there is two sides to any armed forces. I served 12 years in the RAF.

      Totally agree - I served 7 years as airman and 5 as officer - they are two different worlds.

      @@nachafitton571 it's self explanatory really, there's commissioned and enlisted. The enlisted don't serve in the opulence that the commissioned serve in.

      @@nachafitton571 Two sides of the same coin, each with its own space. The Spanish have a wonderful expression for this: Juntos pero no revueltos.

    Is the uniform also generally worn with a tie?

      No, that's shirt sleeve order. One of the many dress codes in the military. You can chose to wear a tie.

      I think it’s 12, but it might differ per role

      Engaged, at least, but she may have started as a non com. Not sure they were Sqn Ldr epaulette's either. Think she is a Flt Lt.

      Not sure what your experience of the RAF is, but you promote a lot slower than in the army because of the longer expected service length.

      @@Day-vg1bh if you need that explaining for you , It's a joke, they should focus on recruiting and having the BEST not box ticking for quotas and appeasing woke morons. This was self evident when the colour of potential pilots was leaked as a box ticking quota issue... colour should not be an issue. The lack of funding is also making our military a joke and clown leaders who give endless money to corrupt morons in Ukraine is utterly disgraceful. No we don't want a war with Russia either. J O K E
