- So I'm starting a new series where I will be playing ships in which I performed poorly and seeing if I can improve. This will often require me to play ships I dislike, consider week, unattractive etc.
However I decided to play few ships which average player does very poorly in. Hopefully it will help YOU improve by watching how it's done properly.
Bear in mind the only stats I will be showing here are either mine or of the entire community.
I will be laughing at my own stats far more then of those of community, but at no point will I stats shame anyone in particular...besides myself xD The point of this is to improve ;)

Every time you get torped by a friendly dd put a nickel in your team damage sock and soon you’ll have a weapon to beat the living shit out of the friendly dds.
Don't forget Friendly cruisers as well.

Should have played it with a 3 point commander to simulate real life potato gameplay. No RPF, Concealment Expert, etc
That's actually pretty fair. By the time you have a 10 point commander you're generally not at tier 5. 6 points maximum I'd expect to be a touch more realistic. You also generally want to get out of tier 5 as fast as possible, at least I did!
since starting with a 6-pointer nowadays, you might probably have an 8-point captain when your´re reaching Tier 5. Still no CE or RPF. And probably almost half of your games with the stock hull.
As a non-premium player even I have 12 point commander on my nicolas. Got a new one for my farragut whos now 10 point commander.

@@MrGrimsmith Yeah, I was grinding the pan euro DDS, and with a few flags I'm about to unlock the tier 6 and my commander is almost 9 points.
The enemy Nicholas at 5:55 is a good example why the average damage is so low :D

No one doubts your skills but I'd like to see you play this with an unskilled commander and no cammo or flags.
Yup, needs to play with a low skill commander, bog standard camo at best and a couple of cheap flags only.

@@Ayeshteni I have around 500 hours in the game and could count the number of times I’ve been detonated on one hand. Detonations aren’t too often in my opinion. Or maybe I’m just lucky idk
If you want to improve, you have to use appropriate signals and commanders (at least +10 points) I don't see the point honestly. Also it will only make the gameplay more boring

If you were to take his 87k damage and that Nicholas 0 damage, you'd still end up with an average of 43.5k damage, which is a marked improvement over the current server average :D
@Tommy Andreassen Point your making? Doubt even you know because you didn't say anything that had any relation to what the guy you replied to stated. Fact is even if he took out another Nicholas their combined damage is still more than double the server average for the ship so the objective of the video remains valid as does the post you replied to. Nobody said anything about the other guy sucking, or being a noob, or whatever nonsense is going on in your head.
Technically only 1/2'd since that's how averages work! :)
the point of the series is showing how to play ships, one person isn't going to have a major impact on global server stats
The fact that the Nicholas and Farragut are very popular and get played so much brings down the averages. Even good players can get detonated. A single shot from a Gnevy blew me up once in a full health Nicholas, which did not help the averages.

You could call this seal clubbing. Based on what I saw, I'd call this potato mashing.

you forget: the average player at tier 6 is not playing a 19/21pt captain and a whole lot of flags and camo.

@@bormos3 Well there's a series of tests Flambass could do. 50 runs of a ship, with a crap captain, no camo and no flags. 50 runs with his high skills captain, best camo and bunting ahoy. Do a statistical analysis of the difference. 50 runs each should give a good number of tests.

@@bormos3 Obviously a unicum will wipe the floor. But if it makes a few k less to a unicum, it'll have an impact on a potato.
Should maybe use the eye tracker thingy Flamu uses for this serie on teaching people...
Or even better, show & comment the replay of games with the eye tracker, bcoz I am not sure just seeing you playing help that much those who don’t know the bases.
It’s a good idea though, can help a lot, and the community desperately need to increase avrg skill, but lot of people are bad bcoz lazy.
They don’t take time to learn mechanics, or watch good players doing their things, or just don’t understand how/why this or that decision in upstream guaranteed the kill or the victory from the good player, etc...
Need to make it easy to learn for them, or they won’t (aiming at potatoes here ofc, not all are. But those who are, are just bcoz of their laziness to learn and improve... make it easier/faster to learn is the best way to ensure they improve after watching u imo).

Nice idea, unfortunately I'm pretty sure too many of the tatos aren't actually capable of improvement because they don't watch wows videos/streams and don't have the self awareness to recognize their own mistakes. It could be laziness, but I think it's quite likely a question of capacity as well.

Everybody knew him, no one listened to him ranting extremist nonsense. These days all the village idiots have internet connection.
It might just be a case of them being more visible in public.
This why I love low-mid tier. It's full of entertaining shenanigans.
It makes perfect sense. It's a very popular line to go down and it's not uncommon for this to be the first ship new players come across where they get put up against much better competition. Add in the fact that new players in DDs are facing CVs for the first time, it's no mystery why the numbers are low.
I started watching the streams recently and this is the first video where I remembered it from the stream. The thing that jogged my memory was the Devonshire torping you.

Bruh, don't make fun of people. Most people dont even have 10 point commanders on their nicholas, its probably their first tier 5 dd, it can't stealth torp. I appreciate you making this series to help people play better but dont make fun, they certainly don't enjoy all the benefits you have.

Watching the video I think it is the ships stats he is wanting to make better, not the players. Love Flambass, but not sure I see the merit in these kinds of videos. Take a 'poorly-performing' ship, blame the potatoes (not necessarily falsely), go out with full-points captain, full bunting in the breeze with great camo, then bitch-slap the bejesus out of folks. I'm a slightly over average player (I no longer play), if I could play like Flambass, I'd have a you-tube channel, etc.

You always forget and by you, I mean all the content creators who play 6+ hours a day, that there most of the low-tier ships are played by newbies, who in many cases do not really have a general understanding of the game. Not everybody starts the game in the premium shop. It is relatively easy to get to T5-6, and then the struggle starts, especially for US DDs. Comparatively shitty torps, weird ballistics, lack of, or no booster flags at all. And bear in mind, not everyone is playing on a daily basis. I play since the CBT, but rarely more than 6-10 hours a month and I often take longer breaks from the game. I have not touched the game since March. I still haven’t reached T8 in any of the tech-trees. I do not really care anymore. Being up-tiered 85% of the matches is a real mood-killer. Watching your streams and vids way more fun, although most of the time it seems you are not playing in the same dimension.
True enough, I am also an old beta player with only just over 1k battles total and the only t10 are the IJN & USN CA lines. I don't think most mid tier ships are played by newbies though, when I do fire the game up I regularly see people with thousands of games just in mid tiers, a lot of people like the bracket because it's less campy and less gimmicks, there are some real gems in the mids as well. Having said that the 9-5 uni are completely disconnected from the player base in expectations, I myself am nearly Uni(57% 1780PR) and still do half the average damage these guys do. Uptiered can really suck yeah, cruisers especially IMO because overmatch exists, however uptiered is also an opportunity to rake in some incredible XP if you can perform decently. I myself just live vicariously through the streamers most of the time these days, haven't played since ~6 months after the CV rework made AA worthless.
I think half of tier 5 and 6 are players who have been around for a while and are going down for some fun games on favorite ships. The other half are new or less experienced. You can see it. Lose five ships in 6 minutes, then have a knife fight with those that remain. I like it, personally.

unpopular opinion time: maybe give them a break, you're playing tier 5-6. It's extremely possible they've only had the game for a day or 2.
For a lot of ships if you look at server stats by person going by who played the most games in that ship, you see a lot of those people, even ones who played thousands of battles in that ship, generally are less than average stat-wise.
The Devonshire was in a clan. Literally no excuse for torping in front of friendlies.

this video shows 2 things: either most of tier 5/6 players are potatoes who insist to go up the tier even when they dont have the skill required, OR, flambass is too good, so good that he's detached from everyday average joe gameplay within the playerbase. most people do less than half average damage flambass do. no point on giving them the hard time
@@ibnu9969 OFC he's disconnected, all the uni are really, but the point of the video was to try and bring the low average damage up. Now whether that's a waste of time or not is another question given he would have to play thousands of games in the Nicholas to meaningfully affect the server average. Also about most players do less than half his average damage, I think it's more like 10% of players do half his damage, another 30% do half of those players damage, and the other 60% do half of those players damage :P
The problem with the Nicholas is beginner players get used to the Seal clubbing play style of the Clemson then hit a wall at the Nicholas because you cant yolo torp run like you used to and Tier 5 play is much more strategic and methodical than the Tier 4 run and gun. I was racking up 6-8 kills when I was playing Clemson then moved up the Nicholas and was extremely frustrated at first on how much different you need to play the game.
Seeing the incoming torps from friendly players, reminds me of a game I had very recently. It was co-op, my team was one other actual player in a CV and the rest were bots. Towards the end it was me, the other player and a AI crs, vs an AI BB and a CV. TLDR, the AI crs from MY TEAM launched torps at ME, or that is what it seemed like. No other ships except me in the direction the torps were headed.... Ya gotta wonder sometimes. Apart from that, I have one cmdr with 14 points. I wish I had a 21 point cmdr to put on my Nicholas.
The team gameplay level in this game is something else :-D
I know you said this was supposed to be instructive, but it was hilarious with all the torps. lol oh and capt sniper

If you look for well paying players, well playing players laeve.
Casual is "Torpedo's ready, so fire them. No Sir, there's an allied in the way. Ah, don't care, I payed enough, should the others be careful"

I remember when I tried US DDs, up to Clemson this was a blast. Then Nicholas came... And I didn't understand how to play her. I tried FXP her to get to Farragut, and it was even more tragic. But I don't play DDs like ever. You vid may be a godsend :)
Clemson to Nicholas is a nightmare until you figure out the US DD tactics at the mid tier. Farragut is more of the same of the Nicholas and the Mahan is when you can finally stealth torp. The trick to Nicholas is to fire behind islands at sitting BBs, ambushing BBs around islands and stealth torping BBS that are heading toward you.
So that Trento who torped you was 2nd on the team... The real playerbase. Flambass, you sailed into the World of Spreadsheet, LOL

Nicholas is my favorite ship in the game. Definitely the most enjoyable.
The thing is you see, A Clemson is at a tier where people just YOLO in and torp a BB and die.
That is a lot harder to do in a Farragut, but people still have the same mindset :D .
That Farragut be like: GET DOWN MR PRESIDENT!!
Y'know, I probably contributed quite a bit to those stats, back in the day when the usn dds were my first line to grind, 40% wr 😂
Part of the issue with the USN DDs even from the early days for new players is they don't stealth torp compared with the others, and learning effective smoke+fire skill is initially rather counter intuitive (especially if you know anything about the REAL warfare of this period and these ships).

He probably figured that Flambass was at ground zero for all the "friendly" torps, so he didn't need to try too hard.
I mean Farragut / Nicholas and Fubuki were at the beginning in the game. Indeed, russian destroyers were also there in 2015 but no more others destroyers.

It did look a bit like Seal Clubbing while avoiding friendly fire. The torpedoes.

GG but you have some issues to adress:
1: Nicholas is a good ship, you even say this in the video. I think I read you telling that you would be increasing low-grade ships, not great ships.
2: Your ship is top-heavy of flags, premium camo, all the upgrades and modules... Consider giving a handicap. Take the updates, but use some stock modules. Easy on flags, and maybe a poor-man's camo.
3: Less than 10 point commander is mandatory. Concealment expert in this tier is game-breaking skill.
I make 50-90k dmg every battle with stock Nicholas and captain with less than 10 points. True is its no more "the thinking man's action game" wg change it to potato party. Now in t10 battles we have players with 10-40k battles and they still dont know basics and game mechanic.
It's not the Nicholas that makes that average low obviously. It's the players not yet knowing how to be subtle in a DD.
All of the "friendly torpedoes" are due to the seagull syndrome... "Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!"
Can you do Mutsuki? I’m struggling to use the torp after transitioning from Farragut. Or you can just give me some tips here..
don't spot, don't shoot. When the battle starts, go away from the main clusterfuck zone. Torp the bbs from invis and don't close the range. This is the meta for IJN torpedoboats from now on.

Nicholas is so strong for its tier. It has T8 concealment and T6 gun DPM.
Landing torpedoes is the hardest thing for me. Us DDs having less torpedo range than concealment means I don't even use them.
The Devonshire was torping the smokescreen, obviously, because that's what Jingles always says people do. not kidding.

Concealment on unskilled USA DD's means new players rush cap, get spotted and die (getting torped by teammates)
Please do Mutsuki next. Another low tier destroyer, but it plays completely different from other destroyers at the same tier due to it’s long range torpedoes but abismal survivability.
That stat sheet makes me cry.

Radar and hydro? Cvs? Inexperienced players?
Tops are only 5.5 km, sitting in smoke and shooting is a good way to get torped or blind fire, hydro can detect you etc.

That stats make sense: the enemy Nicholas fired 2 shells and 6 torpedoes, dealt approximately 0 damage, and died in less than 140 seconds XD

Torpedo vision, they in a DD they need to torpedo. The nick torped you, the Farragut tried to torp the cruiser behind you, your team mates throwing torps the second the range matched.
I'm sorry for that, seeing the US line low dmg brings back the only time I played wows and did perform just like that, 20k avg, either got sunk fast or the enemy didn't last 7min.

The only way that average score makes any sense is if a lot of good players left the game.
It´s a game! Just enjoy it, never mind stats... I have played this for nearly 6 years and i dont bother with the revards, i just enjoy playin in my lovely Königsberg, König and Dunkerque :) I dont understand those ho get angy of a free game, why get so angry?

This ship is probably played mostly by new player which decide for the American DD line first. But the cruisers captains in this game are just little Yoshinos.

The summary of all those DD's having low average damage, poor torps. You just witnessed a representitive sample of how most players use them. USN DD players just graduated from suicide torps on the clemson... pretty open and shut case.
Aree with others, do it with only 6 or 7 point captain next time!

a little sugestion: in line with the title of the video, I suggest you to *explain* what are you doing mid gameplay, so that we know what we actually have to do in the battle.
if you can't just SEE what he is doing... yeah, you need a basic primer course. he's posted those before. so has Flamu.

That is the USN DD line. Clemson is great. Nicholas really isn't an upgrade from the Clemson, it is more of a lateral move. Also, Clemson has protective MM. As such, Nicholas and Faragut are naturally at an disadvantage to Clemson. USN DD line is great T3 and T4, decent T5, pathetic T6. Luckily the Mahan starts the turn around and climb to greatness again. OK. Power creep has hurt the line a bit, but it is still a quality line. (With the Faragut exception. I do feel it is one of the worst T6 ships.
Trying to be fair to your Devonshire player, in that second instance at least, he/she seemed to be torping the still-visible smokescreen, which isn't the worst idea. Not a great idea with you between him and the smoke, but, torping smokescreens often gets good results.
When your teammates are better at torping you than the enemy
I blame the crazy torpedo spam at low and mid tiers on Dead Eye. While it is gone now, destroyers did well when it was here and a lot of players jumped into destroyers without a single bit of skill to play them.

All of those players were in clans and most of them if you run their names are not new players.

If even tier 10 is seal clubbing the only honorable thing to do is go into chat and declare, "I am really good at this game and I don't want to seal club. Would the best player on the enemy team please meet me at E5 for a 1-vs-1 duel at the start of the match?"

Yeah...I have no doubt that you can do better in those ships.....but the rest of us have to play with 3 point captains and don't play WoW for a living. That average damage is gonna be low for new players in ships that can't stealth torp and nowadays Faragut struggles to even damage anything two tiers higher than it while simultaneously getting one shot by any tier 8.
I like this concept but you should be doing it with a 6 pt captain not a 19 pt captain. :D

Your stats in this ship were distinctly 'good'.
From his post: "First few games I played ships in which community did poorly in but then I swapped to ships in which I personally did very poorly in - I will be uploading in this order." So this wouldn't be a ship he did poorly in, this would be one that the playerbase as a whole does poorly in based on average stats.
Reading comprehension is hard, I know. Try reading the description again, idiot.
