It didn't start very well, ran rough and maybe had other problems but still, I'd say the seller should have refused that offer, if he had the right to.

Yeah, I think he did say that and yes I don't think he knew much about the car.
Always surprises me how much people don't know about things. Especially when you can look it up so easily.
