Here’s my take on the guitar solo of Rico Blanco for his song “214”. As you can hear, my take is “maybe” what Kuya Rico had in mind for the guitar solo (cleaned up version). He even said na it was not one of his best execution. So maybe ito yun? I may be wrong pero that’s how I hear it in my head. For me the new guitar solo is well composed and swak for the new tempo of the song. Pasok siya and has that fresh vibes into it na pwede mo ding kantahin.
Doon sa nagsasabing sintunado well there are times na may off nights naman talaga ang mga artist na hindi naman maiiwasan due to number of reasons and besides, everyday is a learning process and can be improved. Also, that’s the essence of a live show wherein you get to play the song in a manner na totally iba din sa recording to make the performance more special.. So kahit ano pang gawin niya sa song he can do so because he’s the composer/arranger of the song. Rico Blanco is Rico Blanco…well established awarded composer and recognised musician na yan. Kaya kahit imekus mekus niya yan oks na oks lang! Cheers! Takits next year sa Feb 17 na lang y’all! 🫶🏻
Nice one dude. For me, that version is on another level. Thanks for cleaning and detailing. You're also a good guitarist. Rico is on another level. As the composer of 214. He can do what ever he wants for the song.

@@aelmorky G-Em-D-Cm6-D7b9 is the accurate chords of rico's solo, not G-Em-D-C-D7. that's why some thought his notes are wrong. this is his progression G-Em-D-Cm6-D7b9, G-Em-Bm-C-D7, G-Em-D-Cm6-D7b9b13 (D7b9 will do), & so on. rico always use major chord transitioning to a minor chord to add emotions to his melodies, ie: A-Am, E-Em. he uses that regularly in this song. transitioning major to minor chord is a powerful tool of a composer.

Nasanay lang sila s guitar solo ni loding Perf sa 214. But this is a good guitar solo by Rico Blanco. Siguro konting pihit pa, nice cleanup pero my konting bitin pa.

Yung nakagisnan kasi na solo ng 214 ay nasa G Major scale ang ginawa ni Rico Blanco, humiram siya ng Modes sa G minor scale, which is fitting the way he is as a musician. Gusto nya mag ala-"Jacob Collier" sa performance nya eh
facts. correct in theory and i think with the correct backup instrumental he will sound alright. nonetheless he only sounded off dun sa nag trending na vid, i saw other clips of his solo and he sounded alright
Good in theory but poorly executed. Andaming sabit, missed notes and hilaw na bends resulting to sintunado na tunog. Plus the ending divebomb is hilaw din.

Perf is the better guitarist, hands off, Perf perfected it with 90s glam influences like Paul Gilbert. Baka sa mindset ni Rico, he wanted a different interpretation at mukhang impromptu (since magkaiba ung 2022 solo nia sa 2023), ayaw niang maging copycat ni Perf. I mean he can do Perf's solo like every amateur guitarist out, he just chose not to, maybe he wanted to be identified as Rico and not Perf. Let's just appreciate the 2 artists' guitar solo interpretation of the song 214. Now did I like Rico's solo? I did, especially if it was executed properly.

Yep and even Kuya Rico said it’s not one of his best execution due to technical and monitoring issues. May mga gigs naman talaga minsan na not the best condition. Pero kung tatanungin ako kung nabawasan ba ang pagka musikero ni Rico for me it’s a resounding NO. Napakahusay pa din niyang musikero at manunulat. Nothing changed I still salute him for all the music he’s written and shared :) cheers! - Ael 🤘🏻

Nice, thanks for sharing this... dun sa actual live solo eh yung pang-3rd na note ang parang hindi masyadong ok pakinggan for me, hindi ko masyadong makita kung saang fret kinuha ni Sir Rico yun, pero itong tipa mo dun sa particular 3rd note na yun ( on the 15th fret of the B-string, if I'm not mistaken) eh pasok na pasok ang tunog. Parehu namang maganda yung gawa nila,, yung lang dahil mas nasanay tayo sa Orig na Ref ni Perf kaya nakaka comment din tayo ng Negative sa gawa ni Rico pero kung open music minded ka pwedi mo naman pag aralang pakinggan hanggang sa matanggap mo ang katutuhan na yun talaga ang gawa nya. Saka sa Version ni Rico sa 214 medyo mabagal lang ang pagkanta nya kaya yung gawa nyang adlib medyo mabagal din,,, Besides mahirap nang humusga kung di manlang kaya pantayan ang gawa ni Perf. At Rico dahil kung kaya mo pantayan gawa ka ng sarili mong Version😂😂😂

mga mababa lang yung knowledge sa music yung napapangitan dito sa areglo ni Rico. he's more of a composer and artist unlike kay perf na purely gitarista. hindi takot si Rico mag experiment. Kung manonood pa kayo ng ibang mas certified na gitarista na kalevel ni Perf na mas naclarify yung lead ni Rico, makikita nyo yung vision na gustong gawin ni Rico e. Sympre, bilang hindi naman talaga gitarista, kakabahan din talaga si Rico lalo na iba yung areglo nya sa original 214. may vision, hindi lang talaga na execute ni Rico ng maayos. I suggest panoorin nyo yung paglilinis na ginawa ni Alvin De Leon sa areglo ni Rico, makikita nyo na may vision si Rico, sadyang kinabahan as not being a certified guitarist, pero may vision and expression bilang musikero at artist. Jusq di naman pagalingan ang pagtugtog, mga beginner lang magiisip na pagalingan ang pagtugtog. Music is expression. And if expression lang naman ang usapan, nagawa din ni Perf yun sa original expression nya ng 214 solo, so hindi ba pwedeng iexpress ni Rico yung sakanya specially na sya ang original composer nun? second, if pagalingan lang as totality, sabi nga ng kanta ng parokya ni edgar sa The Yes Yes Show, "At ilan na ba talagang nagawa mong kanta?" So outside first album ng Rivermaya, ilan na ba yung kantang ginawa ni Perf na naghit or even kanta na nagcontribute sya na naghit? Jusme, Rico is Rico. Di nalaos even outside Rivermaya. stop the crap. Gitarista lang si Perf and it ends there. Kahit pumalpak si Rico a million times, that doesnt diminish his song writing and vision.
Totally agree that he’s more of a composer than a guitar player, hence the reason why I cleaned it if you hear my version this is the cleaned up one. Eto yung tancha kong vision na gustong manyari ni Rico sa solo na yun. Napaka melodic niya for me in a songwriter’s perspective. But then again, hindi maiiwasan ng ibang tao na icompare sila due to the fact na yung iba is not really instrumentally inclined and more of a listener. Pero for me both works, the OG Solo of Perf will be forever engraved into our ears pero no doubt the solo of Rico is a fresh new take and homage to the song 214 which is beautifully done. Nilagyan mo ng kick yung solo ni Rico. Ok naman yung kay Rico but it's missing something. Idol ko pa rin sya as a musician but may limitations pa rin siya as an artist. Technical wizardry is not one of his strengths, quite obviously.

Compared to Perf.....Rico is an amateur. His attitude is much bigger than his personality. He is nothing more than an average guitar player with attitude that he is much bigger than life. BTW......not a big fan of Rico....
