I got the same tumbler for my birthday last year. I've been running it almost 24/7 since then and its doing just fine. I love my hundreds of polished rocks! I do the first stage with 60/90 grit, 5 tablespoons worth, for 5 days. Then examine and only remove the flawless ones. Then literally rinse and repeat unti I have enough to fill the barrel for the 2nd stage. And borax is your friend in the final stages, burnishing is essiental IMO so it doesnt dry in the tiny voids or druzy spots. And definitely invest in some ceramic media to take up space in the final 2 stages to avoid cracks and chips. Pretty agates, good luck to you!

Try cushioning them after stage 1 with ceramics. Keep them in a tub marked with the grit stage so as not to carry on grit to the next stage.

I'm in Minnesota too! I bought my grandsons a rock tumbler years ago. While we didn't go rock hunting, I bought some rocks for them to polish but it didn't go as well as I had hoped.
Does the softness of the stone make a difference in how long to do each stage?
