Ramon Dekkers is one of the most well-known foreign Muay Thai fighters in Thailand and all around the world. His frantic style of fighting drew huge crowds to the Thai stadiums during the 1990s as he took on Thailand's best champions in their own sport.
Dekkers passed away suddenly in his home town of Breda, Holland in 2013.

There's a lot of arguing in this comment section about Dekkers, but no one can argue that he went to Thailand and became a legend during the Golden Era of Muay Thai. Keyboard warriors need to quit arguing and being racist and just enjoy Ramon's awesome highlight video! It speaks for itself!

This channel is what drove me to not only look into the sport but the history of Kickboxing and Muay Thai all together. The battles that happened through the decades and all the controversy is why I love this more than MMA but just as much as Boxing, of course for different reasons. And out of the 11 times that he won Dekkers only won against 3 fighters that can be considered prime elite Thai fighters or top fighters : Coban Lookchaomaesaitong ( during the second fight ) , Superlek Sorn Esarn ( during the first fight ) and Cherry Sor Wanich ( during the first fight ) .

One commentator said that when Ramon was risen a Thai legend Samart Payakaroon was getting old and never get a chance to fight each other. It would have been a great match between the two! Samart was one of best Thai boxer in the history of Thailand.

@@8limbedwarriornakmuay175 There are some Thai fighter that I like in that era. Such as Sakmongkol, Samart payakaroon, Jomhod, Orono And this era such as Sangmanee, Rodtang, Yodklepet, Thanochai. But for me Ramon is different. Because he is white guy who fought with all his heart until he've been awarded by your king. And there is no foreign fighter who as good as him so far.
I used to be a pretty big fan of Dekkers, watched his documentaries and watched his full fights. I wanted to know everything about the man. I wanted to buy his diamond logo shorts, ffs.
The more you learn about him, the more he falls from grace. There are some really big lies surrounding his character, especially the "first foreigner to win fighter of the year" myth really stands out. It's everywhere on the internet, but it is in fact false. It never happened. I looked it up. I was quite honestly a bit shocked. It was just lies propagated by his camp.
Then there is the "dekkers forced the thais to adapt to a new style" myth. That also didn't happen. The thais were curious, but they didn't adopt anything from his arsenal, really. And why would they? Dekkers lost more times than he won, when pitted against elite thai fighters. He even suffered a handful of outright embarrassing defeats.
Then there's the "dekkers lost unfairly on decisions because thais would favour their own"... Ah, man. It breaks my heart to write this, but just watch the fights, brother. Dekkers lost fair and square, in as far as i can tell, every single one of his losses. If a thai had fought like Dekkers did in his losing fights, the thai would also have lost. There's just no getting around it.
Then there's the coke, and the juicing, against all-natty thais. There are real reasons why his heart gave out at such a young age, but only a small number of people are willing to speak on it. I get it; we don't want to tarnish his name, but cheating is cheating, and it is dishonorable when thais only juice up on ginseng.
Dekkers is a legend, he accomplished remarkable things, but the cult of personality surrounding him in the fight community has reached George Washington levels of bullshit, honestly. I still have some respect for his legacy, no one can take away from the fact that he was a beast that went all-in ringside, but you have to draw the line somewhere. And that line is drawn at the point where fact meets fiction.
