Winter Chores at Neighbor Al's Off Grid Cabin

  • In this video, I catch up with neighbor Al at his off grid cabin in the woods. After my trip to Hawaii, I stop by Al's and get an update on how he's been doing since we last saw him a few months back. He shares some stories, runs his hydroelectric water wheel to charge his batteries, and stokes his fire to keep warm during these cold winter days in Washington state in the Pacific Northwest. We also split some firewood from an alder tree that he fell near his driveway. Finally, I help him do some repair work on his driveway after heavy rains flooded one section and caused a washout.
    Thanks for watching!

You have the coolest neighbor bro. Al is one of those once in a lifetime friends who you know are true friends. You guys stay close. I miss my AA sponsor Eddie. He was my elder by a good 35 years. More like a dad kind of figure plus best friends. Taught me a lot.

Many would say yes look at the axe they have to split the wood. Challenge anyone that has not done that before and say aaah its easy. Hat off to Uncle Al for being off grid all the years. ( Where I come from " a older person thats older than you is called Uncle ) Uncle Al has more respect in my books for going off grid

I have owned very good gas chains saws over the years. They are great for their portability. But none of them compares to the cheap corded electric chainsaw I bought from Lowe's. I wish I had bought one 20 years sooner. It's major drawback is that it of course has to be plugged in. But I like it so much that out on the Super Secret Remote Off Grid Property, I just use the little 2200 watt generator on the wagon and take the saw and cord where I might need it. I still use the gas saw, but only when I get deep in the bush.

The hot water pressure is better because it is a floor above so it creates head pressure and takes advantage of gravity. A Water Pressure Booster Diaphragm Pump 110V AC for House,45PSI 4GPM Fresh Water Transfer Pump with Plug on the cold line just before going into the house.

Typical Stihl not wanting to start after running out of fuel. It was flooded. Next time put it to full choke, press de comp if it has one, hold it wide open throttle and pull like crazy. Should take between 10 to 12 pulls and it'll pop off. Had an MS460 that was the same.
